Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMO, the One Power is the best rendition/explanation of magic in any book I've ever read. Maybe it's my mechanistic little pre-med brain, but I love that he breaks it down and explains what's going on every time channelers are casting various spells. Sorry, "Weaving." 🙄

The magic in Harry Potter was really pretty crude until she started getting into casting without speaking and casting without a wand in the later books.

Tolkien doesn't bother trying to explain magic in LotR, but I forgive him as one of the founding fathers of the fantasy genre. 😎

👍.

Apparently when my school said that they'd have letters of evaluation written in 4-6 weeks after they're requested, they meant 2 weeks. AMCAS just got it today. I can finally send out applications! HUZZAH!

my school should take some pointers from your school.

that, and i wish they didn't feel the need to wait until my mcat score came back.. 🙁

Yeah, all of the action scenes in HP are pretty bad. I'm not a huge fan.

WoT books do explain magic really well. Another good series for this is the Saga of Recluse by Modesitt. Also, I personally like the Shannara books for this as well, although some people disagree.

No way. Books 1,2,3 are untouchable. Simply the best.

I gotta disagree. It bugs me when Rand doesn't like being what he is. I think his character is way better in the later books.

On another note, I got my UCSD secondary today. Pretty excited.

yay for secondaries!

people might be sleeping from staying up all night for HP.

I stayed up for HP. I'm awake. ...well, i've been at work all day. thinking i should leave soon, but annoying project has me staying. i'm volunteering tonight, so i think i'll just go vol and come back down at 8 to add this silly compound. hopefully there will be some friendly people to talk to tonight! last week was pretty bland - everyone had their curtains closed!

I haven't read beyonf book 4. But I think Rand discovering himself was what was so fun for me.

Hello everyone! How was your day? I spend the day at my friends after going to see HP with her last night then went to work. Oh, and got the NYU secondary which I'll be working on tomorrow!🙂

My day's been good. I wrote 4 essays today. 1 more and I'll be able to submit all my outstanding secondaries. Woot.

It was ok...i had a lab report due at 1 today, so i woke up at like 5am and worked on it non stop 🙁. But i got another screened secondary today which always makes me happy 🙂...even if its an easy screen lol

Ugh that lab report doesn't sound fun at all. I can't believe you woke up at 5 to do it! Ive never been one of those people who wakes up early to complete an assignment. Congrats on the screen! Any sort of screen is exciting🙂

so anyone have any last minute advice for the mcat? something that will get me an extra point here or there? (that may have worked for you?)

Take a few deep breaths between sections. Clear your mind. Treat it as 4 separate tests (1. PS, 2. VR, 3. WS, 4. BS). After a section is over, forget about it until the whole thing is over. If you can't remember anything about PS after the test is over, you did it right.

:luck:

i like that. thanks.

I completely agree with ksmi, make sure to focus on the passage at hand and not let your mind wander back to previous sections/passages. Other than that, I would just recommend that you do NOT void at the end of the test unless something extreme happens during the test (power outage, you faint, etc). If you've been getting practice scores you'd be happy with, just trust that your real score will be close to this no matter how you feel. I felt like I did terrible and seriously contemplated voiding then ended up getting right in the middle of my practice range. Good luck!!!🙂

im with you on this. it seems like the worse i feel, the better i do on practice tests. and on the real test i felt good but fell way short of my goal. who knows with this test...i just want it out of my life.

yay I'm fianlly down to 4 secondaries left. 🙂

bye everyone. :hello: have a good night. I have class early tomorrow at 8.

I'm posting this on a Mac. Pretty uncomfortable.
dude after using a mac only for like 4 years now im the opposite. When I use a PC im like wtf is this 🙁...I keeping trying all the nice shortcuts they have on mac but it always fails...then it crashes:meanie:.

so anyone have any last minute advice for the mcat? something that will get me an extra point here or there? (that may have worked for you?)
Try not to let extremely insane hard passages throw you off...or if the test is 100% different from the practice tests...this is the #1 reason i think i scored below my practice test range. My 1st 2 passages on physicals sciences were ****ing ridiculous, I had no idea wtf this **** was, and I let it freak me out and I just never recovered...sounds dumb it happened 🙁. Also the format and questions were sooo completely different from my practice tests that I was just completely throw off. Hopefully you are not the type of person to excesively panic like me, but if u are try not to🙁

Finished UF working on Tulane... awesome. Honestly, I would have rather been writing secondary essays than getting into a philosophical discussion about whose more dreaming, frodo or HP...

Good News - I submitted 2 secondaries tonight, and I'm only sitting on 1
Bad News - My computer still has the virus, I think, it just attacked me right in the middle of reading my 'Maryland has received your payment' email. Now I think I fixed it again, but it might be time for a system restore.

I have officially become a typical SDN premed by creating an mdapps -_-

this should be fun.

Oh that note, I finally went through and hid all the inappropriate comments on my mdapps. I swear I hid like 2/3 of them. But I'm relinking it. Yay!

finally ksmi now I can track your app process 😏

or build your own, or troubleshoot it yourself, or change any settings worth changing.
I do that stuff all the time. I was a mac IT guy for about a year and a half. Troubleshooting is really easy. Usually all you have to do is delete a preference file and it's back to normal!

what aspects of your lives are you guys talking about for those secondary questions asking about where you see yourself in 10 years?

not really sure which parts of my life to focus on =/

I wrote about what kind of doctor I see myself to be.

None of my secondaries have that question, but I'd talk about what specialty, having a family, etc. probably.
