Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just got an invite to interview at GW!

The lab that just hired me is going to HATE me during the next few months...

:luck: guys and gals!

wow, you guys are a nervous bunch! please refer to the text under my username 🙂

I can't right now! Cooking for a party at my wife's PI's house.

I'll do it soon. Promise? 😀

'kay. you're a rockstar!

and your wife is doing research? awww, you must be like two little science bugs snug in a rug. or something.

whats the point in making your mdapps anonymous?

I started a thread specifically asking this questions. So from what I can tell, its either personal preference or fear of adcoms identifying you or fear of people you know identifying you.

God, I spilt some crap all over my keyboard. Broken. I spent an hour trying to buy a new one.😡

i made my first silly mistake of the app cycle!

i'm moving on august 9th, so i have to update all the schools with my address. some schools just get it through AMCAS (which i already re-submitted with the new info) and others need you to contact them directly. i just sent an email to cornell with this in it:

I am moving on August 9th and would like to update my address in the SUNY Downstate system. I have already edited it in AMCAS and re-submitted; is this sufficient for your records to be updated? In case it's not, my new preferred mailing address is listed below.

bahhh! i know it's no biggie but i was being SO careful because i was emailing so many schools and i STILL screwed it up!

exactly. You have a choice as to whether or not you click on their profile. Some information is always better than no information

whats the point in making your mdapps anonymous?

I did it because I have the glorious history of being one of the most non-anonymous SDNers ever. My name is in this thread and a few others, my avatar was my picture, and my EC's on mdapps were very specific. My mdapps was also at one time one of the most amusing ones I've seen - well the comments at least. I hid most of the weird comments though.

1. I got tired of people telling me I should be more anonymous.
2. I got tired of people trying to find things to criticize on my mdapps. They are way less likely to do so when there are only numbers there. I do still get a few mean remarks, though. I didn't realize good stats made people so angry.

That makes sense to me. Im not too popular in the whole SDN universe, so I guess that's why I didn't understand the whole anonymous thing. I could totally see people whispering in an interview "Omg, that ksmi from SDN"

how sad is that though seriously lol.

It's not sad...it's amazing. Ksmi is an SDN celebrity:meanie:...badazz

Of course, I don't know if I should comment, I am her lesser-known male version after all.

I don't bother keeping mine anonymous because I feel that it does no one any good to see an application that just has numbers and vague stuff about ECs. The entire purpose of MDApps is to compare yourself to other applicants to see where you're competitive and maybe what your application is lacking. For example, seeing that someone has a 3.6 and a 32 and got into UCSF might be shocking until you read the information below that says that he did research there for three years and published a paper on "How to Cure Cancer by 2012" 😛

Granted, one of my character flaws is that I can't stop comparing myself to everyone around me, so maybe I just use MDApps to satiate that desire...

For the vast majority of us, I think this is the rule to go by.

I totally agree with this. And I plan to re-add my ECs for future classes to see, once I'm in school. I'm just sick of people telling me how awful everything about my application is.

who is doing this?? can't you just finish them with your mod powers?

Most of them are anonymous comments. Little do they know that as a mod I have access to IP address of SDN users and I know who they are. But I don't moderate mdapps, so anything said there is not something I can do anything about.

Off to bust out some more secondaries... i feel re-motivated

Pfff...what fun is having power if you don't abuse it 😱

Meh, getting off staff isn't a big deal

(that's what she said)

What fun is getting removed from the mod staff? 🙁
Touche.

How about you start a "Ksmi's Callout Thread" where you post their comments and their usernames and we can all chide them for being tools but not being able to say anything without the comfort of anonymity? Teehee.

awww who banned vishnupatel!?? i was having fun watching him...

Haha. That would probably be even worse than infracting them.

Oh, and person you left the really nice comment (yes I know who you are), thanks. 😀

Well, you did VCU but not UVa, and UVa is a better school in a better area.

Hello ladies and gentlemen! I suppose this is the place to check in if you're applying this year.

Sign me up!

I've been thinking either UVa, UNC, or UMich + Upstate, Buffalo, Albany, or Tulane.

UNC takes practically no OOS students so I wouldn't add that one if you are going for more of a safety. UVa is better than UNC in that way. Tulane gets a lot of applicants. Don't know anything about the others.

Yea, UVa I'd say is a solid mid-tier school. Penn State is probably around there, too. As for another safety-ish school, maybe Maryland? They have lower numbers than Georgetown, and they're in an awesome area. I stayed in College Park while I was visiting DC and I absolutely loved it.

UNC doesn't take a lot of out-of-states, but I applied there anyway because I'm infatuated with the school and everything it has to offer.

basketball.😀

This didn't make sense to me

What about it made no sense to you? You're lucky if people provide any information at all, let alone giving you every last minute detail about themselves. If you don't like the level of information that you are lucky enough that these people provide, then move on and don't click on their respective profile again instead of complaining about the level of detail that was graciously and unnecessarily provided to begin with

The med school is in Baltimore, about an hour north.
