Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i can't believe August is wrapping up...i remember taking my mcat on Jan 31..an the first day the AMCAS was out in May. wow...now people are getting rejected, interview invites, and some people have already interviewed!

hahahaha... you're officially in charge of our 2014 yearbook based on that sappy post alone 😛

actually, a yearbook of crazy applying kids would be really funny. jolt, i second that you're in charge!

ok, now i'm feeling like a HUGE idiot. i was emailing all my schools, and I managed to mangle someone's name. i was emailing and typing too quickly, i guess, and merged a first and last name together and wrote a name that nobody in the office had. aargh! :slap:

i think that was back when we were being a deck of cards. ksmi was queen of 2014, i was ace of 2014, rama kandra was the jack of 2014... and bryson made himself the mascot.
I think I came just after the cards thing. I just felt like I should be something of 2014.

congrats!

Which day did you pick?
Thanks! I haven't decided yet. I have a pretty full sept, and I'm probably going to have to get lots of subs at my volunteer EMT gig, so I'm trying to avoid missing those days. Oh, and I hate flying. I'm trying to avoid that too.

dude i hate flying too

Arg! With school and work and studying I have no time to catch up in here, let alone say much. Hi guys!

Congrats to anymore interviews (I read about one I believe).

no, i say that because i hate cars. and driving. i never want to own a car. ever.
I must say. I do like walking to work every day. I ride my bike almost all other places. I only use my car when biking/walking is unreasonable.

👍

It took me 22 years but I finally understand the term "Sunday Driver". I metro every day to/from work, but I just LOVE hopping in my car on the weekends and cruising w/ the sunroof down 😀

for folks who hate planes, pourquoi? I come from an airline-family (my dad and 2 uncles work for the airlines). I know its kind of a hassle, but I'd rather fly 3 hours than drive 12 any day.

The train -- now there's a fun compromise 🙂. Love the overnight DC --> Boston route.

i'm often going NYC --> BOS and back, so the train is waaaay expensive compared to the bus. plus, bolt bus ($15) has free wireless! win.

👍 I agree. I hate driving. I was forced into getting a car (meaning my mom bought one for me when I didn't really want one). If I could, I'd walk or use public transportation (except it sucks here).

never tried the bus. also never been to NYC unless it was for a sporting event. might try and rectify both those situations this fall 🙂

Trains are the worst long distance transportation (in the US) by far. I took the train to Chicago once and it took over double the time it would have taken me to drive👎.

depends how long distance you're talking. NY-->BOS can take 4.5 hours in a car or on a bus, but amtrak's acela takes only 3 hours. plus no traffic, so less annoying. but over longer distances i can definitely see how the train would suck!

i like to drive because its like a mini-roadtrip. if i got an interview in cali, i wouldnt drive there lol

Just got my first interview! Pitt! And I only submitted the secondary last night, around 9pm...can't believe how fast that was! Woohoo 😀

Congrats! I was thinking about adding Pitt, but then I remembered that I have way too many schools already. It seems like a great place!

i think pitt auto-invites with certain stats 😉

but congrats!

flying sucks. im driving 12 hrs to my interview

I would drive 12 hours over a plane ticket too. It is probably 1/2 the price to drive. Now if it's to somewhere with cheap flights I would fly.

Yeah, they have an auto-interview number. You obviously hit that with your stats. Congrats!!!

Now you just need to convince them that you would want to go there. 😉

Why not?

A big reason is because I have a lot of friends in D.C. so im going to stay up there a couple days to hang out in the city. I dont want to have to carry my luggage around.

Plus it's probably cheaper since my car gets like 32 MPG on the highway and it'll be a fun trip

I like riding in planes. A sense of newness and adventure, if you will.

i would drive to everywhere as long as it took <6 hours ish. i finish work around 6 and would probably leave directly after that. midnight isnt bad.

if you are driving like 12 hours though, don't you need like a stop over (unless you are leaving in the morning)? then, gas + hotel becomes kinda expensive

I do too, because it almost always means I'm going to do something fun, interesting, and novel... my last 2 sets of plane rides were to the Bahamas and to Japan, respectively.

Interviews will be exciting but kind of anti-climatic for me... 😛

For me, because it takes way too long.
