Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
haha, I don't know what CU is either.

But congrats Sub P!

Congrats man. Knock that SOB out of the park.

I'm guessing University of Colorado.

I'm guessing Conneticut.

CU is Univ. of Colorado.

Thanks guys! I'm excited that I am finally involved in the madness!

Connecticut? 🙄

I don't know why they ended up with CU, I think it's just because it's sounds better than UC... Or maybe because the "UC's" are Cali schools... Dunno...

morning y'all!

is it unseasonably cold where y'all are? I walked to the gym this morning and was FREEZING

Yes, I rode my bike to work and it started having the shifting problem that it only has when it's cold.

Long day. Just got into Baton Rogue at 2am, woke up at 6:30am today to do some school stuff, and now off to class until 3 and then driving class (boo) from 5-7. :scared:

ouch.

is it in-car or a class? If it's a class, I'd completely zonk.

what does it do? that stinks.

i rode my little 7ish miles to work yesterday, and the only problem I found was being a bit chilly

I have the old rapid fire shifters. ya know, click with your finger to release the cable, push with your thumb to pull tension on the cable.

Whenever it gets cold, the thumb shifter on my front misses sometimes. It doesn't catch the cable to pull it, so I'll have to hit it like 5 or 6 times before it catches the cable. It's probably just because it's old. It just happened once real quick this morning, and it surprised me because it hasn't happened since like March.

I'm flying out tomorrow morning. Super excited. Do they still hand out free peanuts in the airplane?

i think it depends which airline you are flying...but i agree, that is an important question for me too.

off the top of my head:

southwest - yes
northwest - yes
delta - yes
jetblue - no (but snacks, yes)
united - no (snacks, i think)

yeah, northwest does. they had stopped for many years (at least on my flights) but then this summer they had them back. and i was hungry, so the guy let me have four packs 🙂

that is so beautiful. the most ive ever been given was 2.

I have a feeling that that is due to NWA now being Delta.

Delta has those gingerbread-ish cookies 🙂

soooo good!

Hi All!

Delta has those gingerbread-ish cookies 🙂

soooo good!

Biscoff cookies are so good! I actually got some from a friend and now I'm thinking about ordering a box online.... 🙄

oh man...too bad you guys never flew as unaccompanied minors when you were kids.

i was going from FL to NY, and I was 5, 6, or 7...can't remember...been flying alone since 5. i was getting off a flight, and since UM's have to wait for everyone else to leave, they let me sit in the cockpit for like 10 min and pretend. then as i was leaving, a flight attendant asked me if i wanted THE REST OF THE PEANUTS and presented me with a small garbage bag sized bag of peanuts.

boo ya.

yeah, once when i was younger flying alone, they let me move up to first class and gave me all the good meals, with delicious chocolate cake. it was beautiful.

but that bag o' peanuts is a winner.

I dunno. I'd take the first class seat and the meals. 😀

Invite for Drexel! 👍👍 I'm glad I got one invite to Philly. I've never been there and really wanted to visit!

I hate that some airlines give out pretzels instead of peanuts now. I hate pretzels.
Agreed.

Delta has those gingerbread-ish cookies 🙂

soooo good!
My mom bought me an entire box. They were soooo good. My friend also had an idea. Bischoff and Nutella cake. Make a chocolate cake, ice it with Nutella, then crush some Bischoff cookies on top.

Omg, that sounds amazing. Might even be better than my friend's Better Than Sex cake.

tell us how it goes. Super nervous myself for this one.

PS) Where are you lodging?

I think I have represented myself pretty well at Georgetown, now the wait. Great school with AMAZING residency placements. I definitely did not see or witness ANY of the negative things people have talked about in the past.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn at Rosslyn. 👍

Anyhow, hope all is well with everyone.

:luck: at the interviews.

Oh, and I think I'm about to start a thread on why you shouldn't be a tool at these interviews.

Maybe I'm just old, and maybe just old fashioned, but insulting people during lunch in front of med students who are "not on the committee" 🙄 is really just NOT a good idea (yeah, I was "insulted"). 👎

Anyhow, more about that after the interview season.

I do think it made people see me in a better light though for politely dismissing said comment :meanie:

Thanks dude, whoever you are...

Did you fill out an interview feedback? I have mine tomorrow and I want to know what kind of questions they're asking and how stressful it is (I need the scale of 1 to 5 stars).

nm, I see your interview feedback, i think. 👍

that really stinks man. its good that you took the high road though.

To keep it anonymous for the others involved I really can't say, but I'll give an example in the thread I start later today...

Elaborate...

I'm not sure. If I WERE to fill one out I would certainly be giving adcoms too much detail at this point if I were to ADMIT it (specially since there only appears to be one up for this year). I don't know who wrote those...?

nm, I see your interview feedback, i think. 👍

Perhaps you do. Whoever wrote that feedback sure does seem to know what they are talking about though...

So I realized an interesting pattern. The two schools that have rejected me are those that don't look at LORs until they have already decided to bring you in for the interview(with the exception of Mayo, who apparently saw something that made them want to see those LORs before making the decision to offer an invite).

Makes me think those two particular schools value something other than what people who know you think about you.

Oh well. Water under the bridge.

how much of the campus do you get to see at gtown?

Pretty much all of it. Great campus. Beautiful area. AMAZING opportunities for clinical training 3rd and 4th year. Hard to beat, except for the cost of course (perhaps).

that really stinks man. its good that you took the high road though.

Learn from his mistake. By the end of the day people I had yet to meet (on the adcom) were calling me by name...and they would have had to have asked others to figure that out considering the circumstances of the day. Interview went very well. We'll see.

I really liked G'town. 👍

word, thats something that scares me. most of the schools i have gotten interviews at do not look at the LORs before making a decision so we'll see if i get love after interview

I never thought about that. I just figured schools looked at LORs with secondaries since we have to have them to be complete.

potentially dumb question: how do you know which schools look at LORs after the interview and which look before? Do you just find out at the interview?

Interesting that our roles are reversed. I'm not surprised considering my "non-trad" background, but for my theory to hold you would have to have been a science go-getter since undergrad with higher than avg. numbers.

Anyhow, I'm really not complaining, just observing. I really think I wouldn't have been happy in places that treat the application is such a way, but to each his/her own.

Well, in the Vandy thread a current student said as much. It went something along the lines of "they don't consider your letters until you reach the point of interview time" and for Duke, they don't even have you send them in until you've been invited.

Haven't heard back from all of the schools though so who knows, I'm sure the pattern won't hold forever.

I think what most people refer to as a "crap-shoot" is really just each school choosing a different priority in the application process with most variables remaining nearly the same from place to place.

yea definitely.

i think the school i got rejected from didnt look at my LORs either - mayo def did not (i didnt get a request for LORs) and i doubt BU really gave a **** so

UCSF will be a good check since they gave me a secondary. we'll see if there is an invite (surely there are other factors)
