Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I thought about going to S Africa for the World Cup after graduation, but then realized that would be it for my summer. Plus, I found the ticket application process to be kind of complicated. Another thing, the games are all over the place. How would I get around? I would have mainly wanted to stay around Cape Town or the safari-type areas.

yea you have to either travel around (which wouldnt be bad) or just get the cape town venues. tickets are pretty expensive though

btw, anyone know what happens if you void a MCAT score. do med schools find out that you voided a test? the kids in the class i teach asked about it yesterday and i wasnt sure

I'm pretty sure no one sees anything if you void, but it DOES count as one of the three allowed for the year.

i can totally see him walking around miami tryna pick up chicks tho, but very passively

Well, we did manage to meet the school president at the library during our tour.

Thomas is probably too busy trying to find ways to bring the Knicks franchise down from OUTSIDE the organization.

I didn't expect Chicago to be the first city eliminated. Who would want the Olympics to be in Tokyo. Barf.

Well, I guess go Rio now - bring it to South America!

News flash:

Chicago is already out of the running.

Epic fail by Obama.

no one sees it- i voided last year when i had pneumonia and its not on my app or anything

yeah they just announced -- it's on cnn.com as a top banner.

lamest form of lame sauce. Rio would be awesome -- I actually hope Madrid doesn't get it. Remember their bball teams' picture for China?

I think it's just a case of lacking cultural/racial sensitivity and nothing malicious.

hahaha i remember those pics, i think they were sponsored by a chinese shoe company though

yeah, but do you want to host an olympics in a place with such a lack of racial sensitivity? It's a pretty widespread issue in Spain as a whole from what I've heard from friends/family who visit/are from Spain...

Well, China's much worse in terms of racial sensitivity or the lack thereof. The population there is so homogenous that nobody really learns of it. That wasn't much of a problem last year, so I can't see it being a terribly big problem for Madrid.

I'll agree with that statement. But I'd add that China didn't make any potentially offensive public displays, either. Other than taking choreography from the opening games DIRECTLY from Mulan (no joke -- I'm at work right now, but I can post links later).

i think barcelona olympics was the most notably successful one in recent history

how so? I know people say that Atlanta was the "least successful" but who quantifies success in terms of the olympics? Is it security? facilities? attendance?

I'd bet money on Rio. But that being said, I'd have bet money on Chicago, too 🙄. Announcement will come at 12:30 ET.

i think success is measured by how much money the olympics rakes in, safety, and also what happens to the city afterwards. like the winter games made salt lake city pretty broke, which is why some cities avoid the olympics like the plague

Wait a minute! Since when was Atlanta the least successful olympics? And what does that even mean?

And I agree.... Rio has it!

I blame that on the USA Roots berets. Ugliest. hats. ever. 😛 😀

chicago should have had michael jordan speak. most people outside of the country don't know much about oprah or even barack. jordan would have just bashed the other countries though.

yeah--the Today Show mentioned something to that effect this morning -- I think it had to do with the bombing, lax security in general, and an overall breakdown in operational effectiveness. Again, I was asking what determined overall "success" in gauging olympic games a few posts up, so I'm not sure 🙂

I emailed my student host this Wednesday and he's not responding back. My interview is next Friday so I have to stay with him Thursday. What do I do?

Maybe he hasn't checked his e-mail yet. Some people are terrible about that.

Or call him if you have his phone number.

They already assigned me though. People should check their emails everyday.
