yea i meant turbo dog. i havent seen the andy gator here, im def going down for mardy gras

i might order cases of beer online (flyingfish, brooklynblunderbuss, abita, sweetwater). i like the beer here, but im living alone, and im thinking of becoming an alcoholic

Whats so special about Michigan anatomy?

What if you had no dissection....like Cleavland Clinic?

nah i think u want a dissection. what my lab does is that each week, the TAs dissect one of the bodies in the lab room for that particular topic/region (we have like 5 rooms, so 5 prossections), the other students (and the other half of the prossected body) do the actual dissections. i think you def want to do dissections on your own though, then you start learning to follow the arteries/veins/nerves to their origins/insertions/attachments to logically draw out your idea and what the **** not

man, we dont have prosections, so its really difficult. we have to learn from bodies dissected by ourselves, and id say probably most of us are terrible dissecters. add to the fact that many bodies really sucks, it makes us waste a lot of time going from body to body trying to identify stuff

You might be able to find some nice prosections online.

the best balance bw performance, price, and battery life as far as pc goes is the asus (uc 30 or something). its a bit worse in most respects(a bit heavier, slower, and slightly less battery life) than the mac pro, but its also 300-400 dollars cheaper.
Speaking of MACs.

Yes, we do have prosections! At least, we did for my dissection day... I can't really vouch for the other days, I guess.

Research or Starcraft II? That is today's dilemma. leaning towards SC2 since I only have 6 more days where I can sit around goofing off at my computer all day.

:hello:

How is everyone doing? It's finals time, so I haven't been keeping up with all of the exciting news here.

:hello: Good luck on your finals!!

I'm just here studying for anatomy in the library... Nothing too exciting here.

Just got back from my first day. Ate lunch, studied this morning's lectures, talked to some classmates, and here I am...done at 3pm. Is med school awesome so far? That would be a yes.

Sounds cool for you.

I'm just going to chill until tonight. Maybe organize some of the 91847534875346 notes from the last two years.

Any of the researchers here have any suggestions for what is expected of me if I'm approaching a PI to do clinical research with?

Should I already have a hypothesis and specific questions even if I don't know much about the field yet 😳? Will the professor help me out if I've never done chart review before or am I expected to investigate typical methodology of retrospective chart review, how to gather data, etc. and figure it out for myself?

I've only done non-science review and really hope that the PI will give me some direction... 😳

I'm going to go make myself a breakfast sandwich now. I was going to make it this morning before heading to class, but I hit the snooze button one too many times.

I have no help for you, but if you find out let me know.

Y'all should all go check out the "PM-1" thread. 😆

Throw them out👍👍👍

I've never done a chart review and my research is mostly bench. bbbuut in my experience the PI should have at least a general idea of a question for you to pursue.
On a positive note, I'm definitely considering a new field.
Cool. which one?

You guys are gonna think I'm crazy, but urology looks mad cool. Surgical subspecialty, longitudinal patient relationships, you can ween down your OR hours when you're older, fewer on-call hours than many surgical specialties, and you get to play with some cool technology. Plus you get a good variety of procedures and can do all sorts of stuff with the renal system, which I'm very into.

Oh, and I've heard they're the most laid back and hilarious surgeons ever (I guess you'd have to be, lol).

Interesting... What other specialties had you considered?

I hope I can get a decent showing for my birthday night (going out tonight since it's tomorrow and I don't have school) outing. This tropical depression is quite rainy.

i think umich has the best anatomy class

Our anatomy profs are legendary. The upperclassmen speak of them pretty much reverently. I can't confirm this, but they said that several top-tier schools, including Duke and others, unofficially use UMich's online anatomy material for their courses.

I wouldve done uro or ortho if I wasn't going into rads. Awesome specialty.

i am obsessed with 'ultrathin' laptops, so i was deciding between the toshiba satellite t235 series vs the asus ul30 series. i went with the toshiba!! its a little cheaper, the asus supposedly has better battery life, but overall the reviews on the toshiba seem a little better. i think asus would be better if i was a gamer (good graphics apparently, not that i know anything about that.) but i am not a gamer 🙂 plus the satellite comes in white and i thought it looked too cool to pass up!

there were actually some good deals on Asus refurbs on tigerdirect, though, if anyone else is interested!

to everyone starting class this week: enjoy!! i still have 2+ weeks to go, haha!!

Ah, you want the ultrathins, the Toshiba is an awesome choice then! I can't get those ultrathins because I drop **** all the time and I'm afraid it'd break  The only ultrathin I'd get for myself would be the Macbook Air, for its one piece aluminum construction so I can't break it. Plus, I like the versatility of having a CD/DVD-ROM 🙂

We so didn't! The professor just gathered us around a body, told us how to make the first incision(didn't actually make it), and spread us out. We had some TA's come in to help us out after that, and mine incorrectly believed that the greater omentum was the external obliques and then perforated the small intestines 🙁 Can't really blame him though, our(and your) lady was really, really weird.

Jealous 😳

We use it kinda unofficially haha, it's definitely an excellent source! I wish I had the time to find out a way to download your videos tho, because right now I can't pause or rewind it when watching online 🙁

generally the first time you work with a PI, either him or the resident will tell you pretty much exactly what they want done. After they trust you, they might let you do more in terms of experimental design etc.
