Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
our biomed library has all the first aids and review books (not all) available online. i wonder how sick private schools are about those

we have an exam about every 2 weeks. it sucks because you're studying all the time, but it's great because no test is cummulative so you never have more than 2 weeks of stuff to study at once.

Same here, sometimes every 3 weeks. First biochem exam plus something else on Fri....too much **** to know for one test... :scared:

which other books have people bought so far

I got a Netter's for free, but I don't like it so I'm not using it. I bought the Gilroy Atlas and the Anatomy textbook. That's all so far. I might buy embryology but that's probably going to be it for me. Maybe I'll buy an old Rohen's for dirt cheap depending on stuff.

things i find cool

radiographs (cts, mris, xrays)
electron microscopy (****s ridiculous. i love my confocals and whatnot, but EMs >>>)

I agree, EM >>> 👍

I don't like Netter's. My copy of Gilroy is coming in around Thursday. I much prefer that one. I got it new on Ebay for $40 cheaper.

Netter's is sooo much better. For the detail you need to know, you can't find a whole lot of **** on Gilroy's.

the UM site is generally pretty useful for anatomy. I think Moore's is absolutely amazing for it.

Netter's just has too much stuff cramped on one page. It's too confusing. But I have it if necessary.

I can't get their videos to work, but I think it's just a Quicktime issue on my computer.

What is Moore's?

moores is clinically oriented anatomy. i heard the book is pretty good (its not just an atlas). its required for us but no one really buys it here

Trust me, you'll soon start to appreciate all the labels on Netter's

yea, ill PM and email you tomorrow (i dont have internet at home) and I need to virus check it first to make sure the source isn't being like the chris hansen of literature piracy/spread it to you

embryonic stem cell research is gonna be a mess w/o fed funding. its a big blow to schools like Wisconsin and Stanford

well I just found and d/led a version... and it was in Russian. :smack: Maybe I can forward this to Taty...

hah yea have her translate it for you, i just looked up rohen on torrentz.com i wouldn't recommend downloading it tho cuz it's illegal and stuff 😉

dingy/lstone: my friend says everything on the miami tests are straight from the lecture and lecture powerpoints, that's supposedly true throughout med school there.

Thanks for the advice! I'm not a huge fan of just reviewing powerpoints/lectures, but if that's the way it's done, it's best to adjust my studying style to it.

Hey, you know if we curve for tests? I like your optimism! Hope we all passed :xf: :xf: :xf:

Doesn't look like they curve. Also, turns out my math was off. I didn't realize that the written and practical sections of the test were weighted differently...

Trust me, you'll soon start to appreciate all the labels on Netter's

I agree! It's nice to have everything in the image labeled instead of having to flip through the book to find the one page that actually labels that part of the body.

Wow. Our second years suck. I'm so tired of having rumors spread about me.

🙁 That's not good!! Sorry to hear that ksmi!

Wait what, how are they weighted? Did you go to the gross review session today? I thought they'd record it and post it online, but apparently not 😡

Yeah, I went to the review. They don't post the reviews since they recycle the questions. I mean, they wouldn't even let us have our computers or phones out, and we couldn't write anything down either.

As far as the test being weighted, if you remember when they showed us how much each test counted for the overall module grade, they indicated that the written exam for the first test would count 7% of our total grade and that the practical exam also counts 7% of our total grade. So essentially, we get one grade for the exam as a whole, which means the written and practical contribute equally to our final grade even though they didn't have the same number of questions.

Oh yea...that's right! Do you remmeber the blocked ureter --> renal plexus question? Which vertebral level is it? I thought it'd be the least splanchnic, but T12 wasn't an option :/

Just got test score back. Right on the mean. Not sure how I feel about it. I guess I should be proud because I was learning this stuff (biochem + genetics) for the first time... but I don't want to be satisfied with the "well now you're in a different pond with sharks that are bigger blah blah" explanation either. I think I'll drive myself crazy if I keep thinking about M1 grades and rankings instead of putting it in perspective. 🙁

But think about it this way... You're still adjusting. Now you have an idea what might work and what probably doesn't work. I think you'll only see your scores go up from this point unless something specific really doesn't click with you. 👍

**** YEA, I PASSED THAT ****!!!! I owned the written part but did just OK in the practical. Gotta spend more time in the lab ^_^

I passed too!! Yaaaay!

Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't really be satisfied with saying that, but for now, I'm so excited!

lol, like everybody failed the practical, but most ppl passed overall!

Great job, guys!

I just took a nice nap and I wake up at 6:20pm to find the book that I ordered with one day shipping from Amazon not here. 😡
