Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
saw my cadaver's face for the first time today, has a diff feeling for sure.

Howdy '14....what's shakin?

Can I ask you guys for some advice/opinions/anecdotes?

Anyone here have a horrible interview and still get in to the school?

My first interview was a disaster.
One thing I've learned is to almost never overestimate the impact of the interview. I had some great interviews at places where I got WLed and never got in. Had some less than stellar interviews where I got in really early. I hated the fact that I could never tell what my chances were based on my interview.

told me to "stop talking and let him finish".

It was pretty bad🙂

goly. this sounds ridiculous. it is an option to tell the school that he made it an uncomfortable interview.

I'm dying here. This double-lecture on actin, myosin, microtubules, and intermediate filaments is killing me. :boom:

Please, god, let me learn something more relevant. I can't stand this first block of ONLY molecular and cellular biology for 8 weeks M-F.

/rant

This freaking Saints game needs to hurry up and happen already. I'm excited but I'm really tired of hearing everyone talk about it like it's the second coming of Jesus.

My app is a little......odd🙂 And I have been worried that the interview invites I have gotten have just been to invite me in out of curiosity. I am scared that I am in for more of this stuff later.

I will probably let this one slide. I liked the school, but not enough to fight for it. If this happens next week though at my favorite school, I would do something.

It is just so puzzling to me because in general, in life, people LIKE to talk to me. I do well in interviews because I genuinely like talking to strangers. I'm respectful and not a douche, and I was just so mentally unprepared for what this guy hit me with.

Pretty naive to expect sweetness and light everywhere I go, I know...but that is generally how it is, at least after the first 5 minutes of talking to me😉

I would like to think this had nothing to do with me, but I'm worried that stuff in my app triggered it.

Thanks for the moral support guys, I appreciate it!

Skipped embryology today, had to pack for my quick trip to Dallas.

I didn't get on the interview tour guide list. 😡 I really really wanted to do that. They said second years had priority, but I noticed that some of them are going twice while I don't get to go at all. :bullcrap:

jla did. And got $ from that school too.

I had a few questionable interviews where I still got in... LSU-S and Tulane come to mind.

My bad interviews - Wake, Penn, and Yale didn't end so happily. 2 WLs and a rejection.

But really, the interviews went badly because I didn't mesh well with the school, even if I liked the atmosphere while there.

I'm of the belief that all this stuff works out for the best in the end. :luck: with your upcoming interviews

Who goes to lecture in here / doesn't go? Curious...

I go to anatomy and the anatomy lab afterwards. I also go to HPD (embryology). I go to those because I actually like the lecturer's and I tend to actually pay attention.

Histology on the other hand, I will be picking and choosing which lectures I go to based on the professor presenting. Plus, I just had a histology course last semester, so it's mostly redundant for me.

You didn't miss much. Plus, I'm guessing you missed the rain?

I got it. 😛 I don't do it until early February though.

I've been going to lectures except this past week... I really like not going, but something just doesn't feel right. Felt more secure going haha.... I don't know. I'm on the fence.

I've skipped some, but have attended the majority. I want to start skipping biochem but we're starting genetics next week and biochem is in the latter half so it's not like I can sleep in anyway. :annoyed:

I signed up to be a student host, but haven't heard anything back yet. I'm within walking distance of my school and I make awesome breakfast sandwiches! (which never happens to be during breakfast time though.)

It's only been three weeks for me but I still go to lecture. It will probably change once it gets cold but I feel if I don't get up I will just lay in bed till noon.

BTW, passed my first med school exam! It feels really good.

Also if you're deciding whether or not to skip a lecture, just skip it and you probably won't regret it. I never have.

I've kinda missed posting on here. I feel like it's a good study break.... my addiction might be back on track...

btw... I would kill to only be in one class right now... As much as I thought intergration was a novel concept.... ughhhhhhh it's driving me insane.

Yeah, I missed the rain. Thankfully, because it was crazy. All the streets were flooded and it took me over an hour to get to the airport.

Yeah, I'm glad now that we don't integrate. 3 classes + doctoring is enough for me thank you very much.

Alright, almost time to board the plane.

Should be a great time in Dallas - lots of drinking, a great concert, and some football on Saturday before I come back. This will be a nice little vacation before I go hardcore studying when I get back.

This Boise-VT game should be interesting.

I'm going to miss so much football this upcoming week because of the way my flights are scheduled (during part of the Saints' game and during some college games on Saturday).

ugh i was at the game...it was super exciting and fun but they broke my heart in the end🙁

Go Hokies!

For reals!

I don't know why I'm cheering for VT but I am!!!

That would have been an amazing catch!

thanks for the support!! i know, that catch was soooo close to being something incredible!

Who goes to lecture in here / doesn't go? Curious...

i do...i actually feel like i get a lot out of it. our current lecturer looks/talks/has the same manerisms as mr. chow from the hangover so it's funny to think about that while listening to him talk about metabolism😛

aww i hope your next one goes better!

have fun!!!😀

Read the hanky panky thread if you don't feel like studying.

He said I was stupid for going to the grad school I went to, implied that my mother was a drug addict, spent 30 minutes talking about everything he hated about the school, med school in general, and med students in general, and when I tried to have a conversation with him told me to "stop talking and let him finish".

It was pretty bad🙂

My interview at Case consisted of the guy telling me he didn't believe my app and that it was humanly impossible I could do the things on my application. Yeah...you never know, it was a great learning experience. Everything after that seemed like a walk in the park. Just keep swimming; everything will come together.

first test tomorrow! 7 am :/ i should prob go to bed, and its freakin 4.5 hours long

Just found out our anatomy block will be Pass/Fail. Sweeeeeet. 👍

woohoo 👍

I am sooo studying this whole damn weekend, just got ~40 percent on my practice practical lol.

congrats osumc and good luck dingy... good thing you have a sense of humor about it... keep workin! when is the exam?

im staying in for the most part this weekend too. exams only in 2 weeks but I'm a bit behind on lectures... it's gonna be hard to avert from the tv on sunday though....

OMG I'm never on this site. I hope no one has tried to talk to me through here.

Hahahaha, now *I* am wondering what was in your app😉

Thanks dude🙂 I'll be at your school next week, and I'm hoping it goes well!🙂 :xf:

I just discovered the awesomeness of Trader Joe's frozen dinners. Goodbye cooking!

Anatomy - thorax and abdomen

I'm not a fan of anatomy at all. 🙁
bummer-i am realizing that i really like it (despite the smell and our ridiculously monochromic cadaver) you guys must be going in a dif order or r u not tested over muscles of the back and upper limb?
