is the lizard learning anything?
He figured out he can climb on top of his caves this week. So now he sits there all the time.

I am on a two week vacation block! I am taking a week to travel with my parents and then presenting at a conference next week. It is pretty awesome so far!

cool.👍

long time no talk! hope your exam went well! I have one in a week....thorax and abdomen and girly/boy parts....ahhhhhh so much!

Thanks to Met and his fam....I am now a proud owner of a caaaaaah!

Our weather has been awesome, too. Probably not quite as awesome as yours.

I don't think a trauma surgeon would count. 🙁

She also practices as a general surgeon!

(Wait, do you seriously get to go anywhere for this preceptorship, or you just want to get out of LA just because?)

Good luck on your exam! And you only think it's a lot to know for thorax/abdomen/pelvis, but just wait until you get to the head and neck!

So you have a car from metallica? That's cool! What type of car is it?

Congrats! 👍 x1000

Thanks!!

I can't decide if I want to lol or :smack: over this:

WTFUXORZ!#$!%#%@#% That's reviewable?

LM is the luckiest SOB in the friggin world, omg the lucky **** LSU has had since he went there

...

1. Why the **** did they try to switch players BEFORE spiking the ball?

2. Jefferson better not get the starting spot next week. JL proved himself today. So much.

3. 4 freaking turnovers?!!?!!??!

4. Miles is the freaking luckiest bastard in the world right now. I hope that our AD will look past the Ws to see what actually happened in this game and in all the others that we've gotten lucky on.

5. I actually feel horrible for the Tennessee players. They played an amazing game while we put on the ****tiest show I've seen in awhile.

Me: its just sad, i mean i know our offense isnt great but our D is trying their damnedest to give them opportunities and they keep ****ing up
Friend: yeah they're doing their damndest to not score, unfortunately it's working lol

Those Tennessee players deserve the win, had the win, and then within a few seconds lost it. Sure, 13 players aren't allowed on the field obvi. But really, the refs shouldn't have even reviewed that after the horrid snap and such. We just didn't deserve to win.

6. I'm not a happy camper.

7. And I have midterms starting in 8 days.

8. FML.

Let's not give Tennessee too much credit now, they coulda prevented this all on 4th and 14. But man, the clock management at the end was just HORRIBLE. Did they NOT think about what would happen if Jefferson doesn't get in when they put him in on 2nd down? It's like they just assumed that he'd score a TD. Boy, would I like to have the luck of Les Miles.

So...would you and met wish to wager your avatars again for next week's game? 😀

NL west needs to get locked down before a 1 game playoff.

Man I just wish SD loses, that way Braves are in for cox's last season and your Giants are in too, that'd be perfect tomorrow...in other news, OSU played like crap today, I feel that we don't deserve 2 at all...:smack:

huge day for california tomorrow. SD @ SF for all the marbles.

Latos is like 80000-0 against the giants this year with like a negative 5 ERA. okay i hyperbolize but he has been good at at&t this year but now he's struggling and sanchez is doing pretty well. both lineups kinda suck but its a must watch. buster posey is a future MVP

Braves vs the 3rd string phillies tomorrow. Cole Hamels scheduled to pitch but only for 2 innings, maybe oswalt too. braves need a win but they cant hit the phillies rookies right now.

if everything goes crazy (SD win, ATL loss)

we are looking at

Monday - SD vs SF for NL west
Tuesday - Loser of Monday vs Atl for NL Wildcard
Wednesday - Wildcard (from nl west) or the Reds getting pee'd on by the phillies. San Fran has the best chance of competing

McNabb @ Vick tomorrow

I agree with most of that assessment. Our lineup is better overall. Latos is probably the better pitcher but Sanchez has no-hit stuff and has been on fire recently. If we score first we win.

This is pretty much the nightmare scenario. It has to get done (although Tim is lined up to pitch Monday if necessary). Still, we lined it up for Cain and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

There is no better time of the year for sports, IMO.

BTW, tomorrow is the last day of our fantasy league. Bender was killing me in the championships 13-1, but now it's 7-7! Coming down to the wire.

hate to be that guy...but my yanks are gonna take the ring again this year

idk how phils will do in the world series (they have to win). but i think if they win, they are going to push for Pujols. he's going to take his talents to South Street, Philly

In Florence now, what's new with everyone?
My mom was born just north of Florence.

So Im studying for a (grad level) Patho exam. Looking over neonatal resp distress syndrome. based on the reading, I want to say that L --> R shunts are associated with rds and that the congenital heart defect Patent Ductous Arteriousis may contribute.

but for some reason it would make more sense to me if it was a R --> L shunt and something like the foramen ovale was involved.

do you know? 😳

I'm mostly using Cotran & Kumar's pathology...

This is a pretty complicated issue. First of all, it depends on the timing. The foramen ovale closes in most people in the first few days of life. Even if it's patent, which happens in about 10% of the population, it won't cause a shunt to any significant degree because of the small pressure differences between the L and R atria. This is the same concept behind small ASDs not being particularly symptomatic.

The PDA causes a small shunt, but isn't a large contributor to RDS, which is usually present at birth, as most people have a PDA at birth.

The pathophysiology of RDS has to do with hyaline membranes making gas exchange inefficient, i.e low V/Q. The easiest way to understand the pathophys is the balance between ventilation and perfusion (V/Q)

Example 1) low ventilation, normal perfusion. This is what happens when you have decreased oxygen coming in, and perfusion is normal. The extreme example happens if you have a foreign body blocking the trachea, and a less severe version of this occurs in RDS. Arterial blood more closely resembles venous blood (left-right shunt)

Example 2) normal ventilation, decreased perfusion (high V/Q) example: pulmonary embolism. In this case, alveolar O2 more closely resembles inspired air.

Hope that makes sense.

Down to the wire, man. Half my team got yanked from playing over the past week and the rest choked like crazy. Definitely thought season ended last week too so I used all my moves

Oh, well that could work. They recommend that we stay in LA, but as long as you find someone somewhere it doesn't matter where it happens. I know people that are going to NY and stuff, so I figured it would be a good excuse to get out for a little while.

I'll think about the avatar thing.

Our teams both suck, btw.

I requoted all this stuff because I'll just let others speak for me as to how I feel about that game yesterday; I really have no words. Oh, and I WAS THERE!!! So it was even worse than you may think it was.

yea, i've almost come to terms with it now 😳

After that showing last night against Bama, I'll take that bet. 😛

Good, seeing corndogs should make me feel better about that loss :meanie:

Mmm ... some Sucre after Lebanese and some softball. Good way to end a 3-day weekend.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia study break? Best decision I've made in days:

"I thought we established that there was going to be a phone call after the procedure, and then you have the procedure and I never get that call -- instead, you called this soft body, and you gay-married him! And now, you're calling me gay, telling me I'm tripping, and trying to confuse me with your liberal Biblicisms!"

Also:

"I have feelings every single day of my life..."

dingy loves Always Sunny. You two should bond over that so he can stop bothering me about it.

Good news: I passed all my first exams!

Bad news: I just passed all my first exams. Oh well, I will do better next time. Definitely didn't put enough effort into stuff this past block. How I wish we had P/F...

I passed too! Somehow, someway, I honored the HPD test. I must be the best guesser of all time, because I counted like 17 questions that I could have missed walking out of the test.

Now, I should get started studying for head and neck sometime soon...

what's your new block?

Head and neck. I already don't like it.

What a gunner.

Just had my first SP examination. It was way less scary than I was expecting, but I apparently talk too fast and that makes it seem like I'm not really listening. 🙁 Guess I'll just have to chill out and slow down next time.

I was way worried about time because we've been going in the hospitals and spending an hour with a patient and this was only 20 minutes for an H&P. I did rush through the history but I was scared I wasn't going to finish. Now I know for next time though.

I hear ya. Totally normal! At least our SPs were really nice when giving us feedback. That helps me a lot.
