This might sound like a dumb question, but are the exams you take in med school pretty straight forward questions and answers, or do they contain the type of questions that make you analyze each answer to make sure they didn't change one word in the sentence to make it wrong or to include two of the answers or none of the above? For example:

Answer reads: The genotypic ratio is 9:3:3:1 vs. The phenotypic ration is 9:3:3:1

or

A) answer 1
B) answer 2
C) answer 3
D) answer 1 and 2
E) none of the above

Depends on the school/class/teacher. My biochem tests are like that. Histo is straight forward multiple choice. Physiology and anatomy are not multiple choice at all.

I'm sure it varies from school to school.

Our Gross anatomy tests are mostly:

A.) ---
B.) ---
C.)---
D.) All the above
E.)A and C

Or some similar combination. Sometimes it is straightforward, A-E. Our embryology is by the same professors so the format is similar but not nearly as many as the above.

Histology is straightfoward.

And then the practicals (Histo and Gross) are non-MC id's and secondary or tertiary questions.

Most of our questions are secondary/tertiary questions.

An example of a secondary question would be: a description of a patient and then asking you what drug, if any, you would treat them with. So you have to be able to diagnosis what their condition is and then from there know how to treat it in order to get the answer.

We generally don't have questions that require super careful analysis of the wording. Usually there's like one lecturer per class that does that and everyone knows to read their questions carefully.

We had lots of all of the above/non of the above/A&C options in M1, but in M2 we seem to rarely get them.

Good luck tomorrow, met! We have our lab practical tomorrow, too. Then more this week, sigh.

Who else has tests this week? Let me rephrase - who else really wishes it was the weekend already, even though its only monday night?!

Hey guys! Long time no type!

We had our first gross practical over the back, upper limb, neck, and thorax today. Ridiculous amount of information... I felt like a med student today.

awesome🙂. Thats crazy you went over all of that in one practical. We saved head and neck for last. Only 1 more month of anatomy and im done for good soo excited, though the neck and head are insane....soo much info that you have to know...

lol i know what u mean we had a test today, another on friday then its finals in a few weeks... but 1/2 of M1 almost over!!!
Yeah man, we're on the block so 4 weeks of anatomy = neck + back + upper limb + thorax :boom:

Do y'all do a block of just head or add with something else? Just wondering.

We do:
Block 1: back (includes back neck muscles), upper limb, thorax
Block 2: head and neck
Block 3: abdomen, peritoneum, lower limb

Block 2 done. :yay:

we have it set up the same way actually but it goes block 1-->3-->2 based on what u listed. i guess they like to save the worst for last at my school lol
Same here.

But we do these three blocks in 10 weeks, lol

1 - upper limbs, back. 2 - head and neck. 3 - thorax, abdomen. 4 - pelvis, lower limb.

I suppose that makes sense. We split up back into our first and second blocks. The actual spine is in the first block and the muscles are in the second.

The thing I don't really understand is splitting up the upper and lower limbs. I dissected the leg and was basically able to guess on most of the arm muscles did/were called just because the arm and leg are so similar. But I guess it'll still come in handy when you go back to the lower limb.

Ours was 3 blocks but it's done a little differently than yours, ksmi. Ours had 1) thorax/abdomen/pelvis/perineum, 2) upper/lower limbs, and 3) head and neck.

Seems like most people do head and neck last. They say it's the hardest. I'm totally okay with getting it out of the way before the end.

Now that block exams are done, it's time to get back to living regular life. Weird.

Histology today = sleeping in and going grocery shopping.

I love being productive again. After 5 loads of laundry yesterday and shopping today, I'm feeling caught up with regular everyday life things.

Going to Baton Rouge again this weekend for LSU game. Could be 3 in a row if I go to Ole Miss, too.

Yeah, I decided to skip today altogether. I'm still in my PJs. 🙂

I went to a grand total of 1 lecture this week. 😳

Nice.

Staying in and studying all weekend🙁. Already going stir crazy.

That sucks. I've felt so stir crazy since school started. I just want to travel a little. At least I'm going to Minnesnowta for Thanksgiving.

me too! (about minnEsota)

and yay exam week is over and it feels wonderful and it all went well and just came home from a clinic day... feels great. 🙂

Thanksgiving break cannot come soon enough. And I officially passed my first med school class!

Auburn is a disgrace to the SEC and college football. I was okay with them winning out after they beat us and continuing SEC dominance, but after their game today it's clear they are dirty and corrupt - on and off the field (allegedly).

I hope Bama and S Carolina beat them. Even though I really want LSU to go to a BCS bowl, Auburn cannot represent the SEC in the BCS championship game.

Yeah, that was a mess. 🙁

Brr. I'm not OK with this cold business.
