so anyone think its gonna be a tough cycle? I'm hoping I can snag an interview or 2 at some of my reaches. It won't be long until some of the gunners start to show up and I feel like I'm wasting money applying :scared:
You have a good app and a decent list of schools. I'm sure you will do fine.:luck::luck::luck:

Good morning everyone! I overslept and missed my first class today. Oops, not a good start to a very busy day.

Thanks.

Your stats look good. Apply early, and consider adding some safety schools.

the only schools i am really considering for new york city will be downstate, nyu and sinai.

True. The list does include Albany and a few other low tier schools, but it wouldn't hurt adding a couple more safeties schools.

true i am going to apply to everything i can, it only takes one.

ps i think it also depends on whether you prefer living really in new york vs being at NYMC or downstate, those are just way too far to really be part of new york life

thats true. I love nyc but dont need to live in it..i just want to be close to home...so downstate would be amazing...nymc would be great as well, and i heard it beautiful up there

ya its sad to see it get a negative stereotype on SDN but i think nymc is prob one of the better student-focused schools and also the dorm thing is kinda cool to me.

downstate has the awesome clinicals. im already thinking about which ones i like better and im studying for the mcat, lol

True. Though they are only miles outside of NYC, you won't have time to straphang at NYC as much as you would like.

Anyway, it is really hard to predict how things will turn out as there are so many variables schools consider. Who knows may be I will be welcoming you guys to Sinai (or another NYC medical school) a year from now.

in my most amazing dream!!! but ya never know! Sinai is prob my number 1...it just seems like a really great school in every aspect! congrats!!

true about downstate...the exposure you get there is like no other!!! It supposedly is helpful when trying to match!

btw...im a hugeeeee jets fan..not that im super proud to admit that, but hey favre is retiring so we'll finally be moving on!

Isn't it great that the drama is now over. Hearing about Favre's pseudo-retirement then his not so welcome return really upset me. I just don't understand why he did that to himself, green bay, or the jets.

btw I don't mind the Jets, though I do hate the the Eagles, Cowboys, and Patriots.

Thank you. Sinai is an awesome place and it is a really good fit for me. However I would not mind going to downstate either.

yeh im applying to them all even tho its a waste of my dads money:laugh: I guess ya never know right??

i'm applying to all the NYC schools too. and praying that at least one loves me 😳

whoa, whoa. not that i like living in brooklyn, but downstate's proximity =/= NYMC's proximity to NYC. brooklyn is part of the subway system. and technically part of the city. you do feel farther away from the action in BK, but it is NOTHING like westchester!! (sidenote: never thought i'd be defending brooklyn, given how much i dislike it here, haha)

i live right near downstate and commute to manhattan every day. MUCH easier than my boss' commute from white plains. just sayin.

yeh..the jets were kinda stupid for taking him..i mean how many years was he gonna get anyway (esp since he kept retiring from greenbay!) So now we have to start all over with a quarterback, and our backup guy sucks..its not gonna be a pretty few seasons for them:scared:

gotta say i HATE the patriots with a passion..def not an eagles fan either..but i like the giants..i always route for them😀

i know i just need love from 1!!!!😍

hardcore Pats fan here...It is quite a shame they had to blow it big time last year. Well, at least the Giants' true colors came out this year during the playoffs

dolphins, anyone? anyone? yeah, didn't think so. there are not so many of us 'phins phans left north of palm beach county.

You're alright in my book 👍

Brooklyn vs. White Plains is no contest. It may not be Manhattan, but there's still the subway and everything is within walking distance. You need a car to get anywhere in Westchester.

Btw, I'm going to be starting at Downstate this year, so if you guys have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Best of luck!

😕 Its not like we lost to a high underdog. We lost one of the most important players to the organization then saw the team decline. What was your excuse?

Not necessarily. You can walk to many places depending on where in White you live.

I believe they lost Tom Brady for the season, Anotherface 😀

I dunno, when I went to NYMC for the interview, it looked pretty deserted to me.

what i meant to say about the NYMC comment was that most students live on campus there, making it more social than going to Downstate, where most students live in other parts of the city. I think I would like to be at NYMC just for that fact, since living in Brooklyn is more expensive and I will prob end up in the city as often as I would if i lived in Westchester.

that said, its true that DS is on the subway line, making it pretty easy to commute from other parts of the brook, or the city - both schools have pros/cons but i would not mind either one to be fair.

ps - if you really want NEW YORK, go to nyu. columbia/aecom are so far from any action whatosever. i like sinai's location by the park, and cornell is ivy so i am not going to really worry about that one lol.

I wouldn't assume that getting into NYU is any easier than Cornell. Their averages are pretty much equivalent, according to the last MSAR.

No one in 2014 got swagger like us...swagger swagger like us!!!!😎😎😎😎

Does everyone in 2014 live in NY??? I feel so lost reading y'all's posts. We don't even have subways here... haha. I can't imagine living in such a big city. Baton Rouge is like anti-public transportation, anti-walking anywhere; you can't really survive without a car. When I went to NY, it was such a different lifestyle. And now, I feel like I'm just rambling.

The only other thing y'all are talking about is the NFL... bleh. I despise the NFL. I guess its because the Saints are horrible, and that one time a few years ago that they were kinda good, everyone jumped on the bandwagon. I hate fair weather fans...

To mess with you, duh 🙂

ah, i see.

thought i'm not gonna lie... a year from now when i'm (god willing!) holding an acceptance or two i think i'll have better things to do than hang out in the 2015 thread 😛

why are you guys here? 😎

To mess with you, duh 🙂

gosh these 2014ers are slow

trolling!!!!! what blasphemy, what ignorance, what naivete. we are bestowing upon you critical information and insightful perception into this long arduous and unclear process. be grateful kids! and absorb, absorb and hope to be enlightened (although, this appears distant and impossible with what we are working with)

You mean like working full time and being bored at my desk?

nah..Im not from NY I am from the metropolitan DC area..so I am bit lost with the NY school discussions too! =)

for the 2013ers and 2014ers that are in the thread, I have a question for you all. I am bit confused with how the LORs are sent to the various schools. Can you pick which letters go to which schools if you have an abundance of letters, or do you need to send the same letters to all schools. I know this sounds like a silly questions but I was just inquiring because some schools may value a rec. from work experience..vs..another school that may value more science heavy recs..I know 2 need to be from science..but I just wanted to get your opinions..Currently, I can think of about 13 people I want to get potential recs from, no I will not be sending 13 recs to any med schools..but I was thinking of using a different combination of recs based on the school..

Do you have a pre-med committee at your school? I got 6 LORs for my pre-med committee, then only sent the committee letter to most of the schools, with the exception of schools that require LORs through AMCAS.

My school gathered them all together and assembled a packet based on what I needed/wanted and then advised which ones to send based on what (I assume) they read. I think it ended up being 4-5 letters which were then sent everywhere via virtual evals. If you've got a committee, it might depend on what their rules/operating guidelines allow.

i have a letter already on file from the premed commitee but i am not sure whether i should use it since its from 2 yrs back since I was orginally planning to matriculate 2008 but mcats through me off schedule. but premed committee only write you a letter and you have to take care of the rest urself.

Do they do update letters? Sometimes they'll meet with you and amend the letter they have on file so you can send that out instead.

sorry i didnt read my post before I read it so it was unclear..what i meant to say was even though we have a premed commitee we are responsible for collecting our own letters and sending them, our premed commitee only writes you one letter which u send with the others. does that make sense?

i think i may call them and ask. since i already graduated im not sure what their rule on that is.

Yeah, it does. I'm not sure how virtual evals/interfolio work, but you may be able to pick and choose which letters go where. Or, you can make them all available. Or... something.😳

if you have 13 possible letter writers, just ask new ones. your prob better off showing recent evaluations even if they could possibly update the older letter.

new ones are better, and you seem to have a lot of options.

i was under the impression that your letters are sent directly to AMCAS itself, and part of the application verification process. is this true? not true?

in my case, i have a composite writer/committee and they are composing one letter. i was certain that they would send it directly to the source and I just do my part (application data, ect)

Or you could ask the old ones to update! If you haven't seen them in a while, you may be able to sit down with them for a little bit (or over some form of sustenance) to talk about what you've been doing and what your plans are so that they can write a letter that better reflects your upcoming application.
