rama kandra and ksmi...i see you guys have taken the queen and jack 0f 2014. what is left?

i think you could take jester, or king if you feel up to the task.

also numbers 1-10 followed by spade, heart, diamond, or club.

additionally you could add colors, but thats pushing it.

Yayyy there's a thread for 2014 🙂! Awesome 🙂. I've been following the Class of 2013's progress... and it's about to be our turn... AHHH! 🙂

i will be the 7 club of 2014! lucky 7 + lucky clover :luck:

:welcome: Caesar, Heffalump, and CielloStelatto! :hello: I'm super excited to see new people on our thread! It kinda died the past few weeks. It was quite tragic. 🙁

So how is everyone coming along with all the application stuffs? I asked for all my LORs last week. So I think all I really have left to do for now is finish my PS and not get any B's this semester. Oh yeah, and pick schools. I think that's the hardest part so far... haha. I'm too indecisive.

MCAT is the focus for one more week. Asking for LOR's next week or the one following, PS I have been mulling over and enlisting some help on. Schools I have picked out.

so class of 13 has THREE exclamation points... we only have one... I think we need to correct that, don't you? :meanie:

You're a mod, can't you do that kind of thing??? haha... our original thread had 4, but then it got merged into that massive class of everyone but 2013 thread... lame

I already have professors and PI's working on my LORs, so I'm hoping that should go over well. I'm still a little confused about sending in LORs to some MD/PhD programs that want separate rec's for each part of the program. What happens if my advisor/thesis PI should be writing to both the MD/PhD part. Does he have to write separate letters? I suppose I should just make some calls to programs soon.

Anyway, I'm probably a bit behind on the MCAT train - for a bit was planning on grad school, so it was a non-issue. I put it off until June because I'm crazy busy running my thesis right now. Hopefully that won't put me too far behind for appying, and such. I better do it right the first time!

I gave ya'll 2 extra !'s

aw, shucks. how generous 😀

welcome all newbies! this thread has been pretty dead lately; glad to see it alive again. who else is uber excited to get this application show on the road?!

Hi all. I'm just here to introduce myself. First post!

I've been reading tons on the site for about a week now (and here and there in the past). I couldn't make it through this whole thread, but I'll be keeping tabs on it from now on. Sounds like we've got an interesting community on here. Thanks for the advice so far, and I'll look forward to giving some in return.

Wow haha I guess I'm behind in this whole application process! Yikes! 🙂
Still have to ask for LORs etc.
When's the first date you can technically submit your primaries?

Don't worry, if you really get on your professors, they can crank out a LOR in a week. They're not hard. I'd start asking now though.

6/1 if I'm not mistaken. AMCAS's website says the app will be available to fill out in May.

Don't worry about those LORs yet - there is plenty of time left. I may have jumped the gun a bit, but in my case it may be warranted since one PI I worked for is brilliant but a bit of a space cadet, and I'm assuming he will lose track of time and forget. 😉

:hello: Bryson!!

Yeah, LORs can take as little as a week. But my letter writers are a bit forgetful so I asked early. Also, I go to a big school with lots of premeds. So my committee will get backed up quickly. I'm trying to be one of the first students with all their stuff to the committee so that doesn't back me up.

Yay Class of 2014!!!

Oh and thanks for the exclamation points, Bacchus 😀

Welcome to new members! :hello: We will help keep each other sane throughout this application cycle.

Thank you bacchus for giving us 3 exclamation points.

it's good to see this thread alive again.

it's always good to continually remind recommenders to send their letters in early. i also want to be the first in line for my school's prehealth committee. those people are slow so we as premeds have to make things work for ourselves.

Good luck! i start school again tomorrow 🙁

it's nice (for early birds) that your school's committee writes letters in the order they are asked for. My school will not write your letter until you have officially finished AMCAS and started applying. I just hope those first few schools (fingers crossed!) don't want a super fast turnaround for rec's.

Sorry dude, that's ridiculous. I'm kinda glad my school doesn't have a committee. I just get a pre-med advisor's letter and submit that along with all my other letters.

Yeah, that sucks! I thought it was bad that I may have to wait a little bit. Are you at a big school with a lot of premeds? Will your wait be super long?

Oh my goodness that is amazing! There is at least one reference to the Snuggie or snuggie commercial per day in my house.

But in response to your question, no - I go to a pretty small school. They claim they just don't want to put the effort into writing rec's for people who don't end up finishing the entire application process. It just means that my time is more crunched in the end. I just really hope it doesn't take them too long to write it and get it back to schools!

Sorry if this has already been addressed somewhere- but is there any single one location where you can find exactly what kind of LORs schools need? I know some schools ask for different #s of recs, and different types (2 Sci profs, 2 others vs. 2 Sci profs, 1 other etc. ). Or am I going to have to look that up on every school's website?
Yes.. I know.. I'm lazy 😛

if you look a the school specific forum here on SDN, they usually have the secondary questions, and quoted LOR requirements from each school's website posted. I think that's as close to a database as you're going to get.
