Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'll call and ask em. That's a good idea
You should be able to. I just took the transcript request form to them (the registrar's office) and asked them to send it after Spring grades are in. She said she'd put it with the stack of others to be sent after grades

i hope i can submit on june 1
im rushing to get my PS and LORs done

im still confused about that
if ur nt submitting individual letters, and doing a committee letter, do u still have to include that in the application?

I'm not going to do that then. My one grade should be in before most of the university has finished getting their grades. I don't want mine to get lumped together with other students whose grades are submitted after mine.

god
all this is making me hyper
when the earliest i can do anything is submit my trnascript as soon as my grades get entered...hopefully by the end of this week.

ditched work early to get this going.

LETS GET IT STARTED

wtf my heart is beating all fast and all ive done is entered where i was born

it took me like 4 hours to enter my grades and double check to make sure everything was right.........🙁

You wouldn't want med schools to find out that you hit the wrong button, then went back and corrected it! 😱

I've done 3 semesters of courses so far. This course thing is so monotonous, but I saw last years, and I think it changed for the better.
When I entered my couple new courses, I didn't even notice the difference. What'd they change?

someone say something other than AMCAS
I hear the lamboghini forum is talking about non-AMCAS subjects.

Sorry chinook, I don't mean to push you out of our conversation, but I think it's going to be hard to find anything else that everyone wants to talk about today 😳.

Ok maybe I'm crazy and it didn't change. Did they have those check boxes before? I felt like it was something more complicated.
Yeah, you may be right, I don't remember the check boxes either. I can't go back and look b/c my 2009 app is verified and I can't change anything.

there doesn't seem to be an area to select 'writing intensive'. i never took an actual english class, i figured my history classes (which say writing intensive on the transcript) would suffice. oh god.....

Breathe. I think at the very least you can tell schools that if they ask about an English requirement. I don't think any school will reject a person for not having the pre-reqs done. So yeah. No worries.

i just mailed my transcript stuff..i got it on 2 day delivery..so hoepfully amcas ppl will get it by gthe week after next!

and i got a external hard drive..my poor vaio is on its last breath and needs to go for repair..

ahhh...it was so weird..i did part of the amcas today..and the whole thing made me nervious..

im excited though. 😍

when describing your activities are we supposed to add in anything else besides just what we did. Like maybe an experience or what we liked best about or something...i dont know.

This. Anyone? I mean, at my committee meeting, I marked the schools I wanted to send letters to. So will the committee send its letters directly to each school, or will they go through the AMCAS letter service?

Pretty sure they still have to do it through AMCAS. My pre-med advisor told me that all I needed to do was to give him access to whatever (you know that check box), and they would upload my letter for me.

hopefully. i mean i figure i can just flash my awesome VR score in their face and say, not even the great ksmi did as good as me.

Yes all LORs no matter what they are committte, individual, packet, w/e. They all have to be sent to amcas as schools participating in the amcas lor program will only accept lors from amcas. Schools who dont use amcas this cycle you can just send the letter to them individually or through interfolio/ however you are planning on doing it.

SHAME on STANFORD!

It's so nice to have so many schools participating in the AMCAS lor system this year. Last year only about 20 schools in the US participated, so it made it more confusing. Now I only have two on my list that are not participating.

i dnt wanna study history
i wanna do amcas

And Duke and the LSUs!! 😡
What?! The LSUs don't do AMCAS LORs? That figures. I assume the committee will send letters directly to them, then. I have a few questions for my advisor tomorrow

I'm filling in my AMCAS right now. So happy.🙂

how should you explain normal paid work activities. I worked at a retail store for my 2 years of junior college and I dont know really what to describe. I mean its not like it was medically relevant or anything...it was just a pos retail job i needed to keep my son and I afloat as loans are not possible at junior college.

If you feel you got any social interaction/people skills out of it, you could play up that aspect.👍

Through AMCAS to schools.👍

So in each of my descriptions am i supposed to "play it up" like you would for a personal statement? Meaning like giving specific examples of why something was so great or why you did an activity, or why you enjoyed it?

Or are we just suposed to basically make a list saying that you did X, Y, and Z?

Also i shadowed multiple different docs, all were basically in the same field though, do i just clump them together and talk about my expereinces? Should i say what i learned from shadowing and why it makes me want to be a dr or something? Or just explain that I did it? And for the title, do i just write like "G.I Physician Shadowing" or something like that?😕😕😕

hey all... I could go scourge other threads for the answer, but it takes too long...

Trying to condense work/activites/honors.. If I would like to include multiple honors in the same entry, what would you suggest for the "award date"?

I was just going to put the date of the most recent award. Then list the others and put their dates.

Enter the 1st date and then in the description list the other times you recieved the same award.

According to LizzyM in another thread a while back, "physician shadowing" is a good title. If it is just one doc, maybe say "physician shadowing - X specialty."

In less than a month, we'll be applicants. Well those of us that have submitted. 😱

in less than a year, some of us will be applicants again 😱 😱 😱

what if they are completely different awards?

List them separately. If you are over the 15 activity mark maybe think about whether all 15 of those are really worthwhile or some useless padding. If they are somewhat similar at least in the same area maybe still just add in the description other awards? That was i was reading on the interview feedback thread.

Indeed they will.

Woot!

I'll call and ask em. That's a good idea.

Are you going to submit your AMCAS without the grades from this semester? I would wait for the grades b/c you won't be too far behind if you're only submiting 10 days later than the first round.

Sounds like we have a gunner on our hands... :meanie:

ditched work early to get this going.

 That's horrible, man. You still have 25ish days to fill it out.

it took me like 4 hours to enter my grades and double check to make sure everything was right.........

🙁 I'm not looking forward to that part. I'm too tired to do anything with it right now... I've been burning the candle at both ends for the last few days....

Hmmm. I don't think that will count, man. You should call some of the schools to double check, because you might end up having to take an "Engrish crass" before you matriculate.

hopefully. i mean i figure i can just flash my awesome VR score in their face and say, not even the great ksmi did as good as me.

What did you get in Verbal, if you don't mind me asking?

I think it's a scam!!! They're trying to corner the market!

And Duke and the LSUs!! 😡

But who really cares about LSU anyway? 🙄

I would make a brief summary that places an emphasis on the people/problem solving skills you used in your position. Not too long though.

For the shadowing exp, I've been thinking I'm going to group them into different blocks. For instance the 13 specialties I did back in '07 ~ 80 hours, then the 8 specialist in '09 ~80 hours, etc. Then list the specialties I shadowed. Nothing fancy. But that way you can use 2 different slots. 😉

I would be sure you list hospital volunteer hours separately and list department separately. At least that's my plan as of now.

I feel like a real idiot asking this question, but "Course Number" is like BISC 123 or ENGL 456, right? Or is it talking about the actual call numbers?

12 😀

the only thing remotely decent on my app 😀 😀😀

Like BISC 123

My school just uses 3 alpha and 3 numeric sequences. That's all they are asking for.

Nice, pimp! That's a solid score! I'm teetering between a high ten and low eleven now... But I would loooooove to get a 12.
