my life is just gettin worse and worse
with just tooo much crapp going on... and nothingg i can do to fixx itt
i regret everyhting i've done in the past 2 years
and tis coming backk to hauntt mee

Peanut butter: Buy unsalted, dry roasted peanuts, oil (I use peanut oil), and kosher salt. Roast the peanuts on a baking sheet at ~375 until they start to turn brown, coat them with a little oil for this (idk, like 2 Tbsp for an entire baking sheet). Then start to grind them up (I used to use a food processor until it broke, I'm going to get a blender for this) in batches. I usually add like 1 cup of nuts, with like 2Tbsp of oil, and about 1tsp of salt to get started. Then, I add more oil as needed while grinding until it looks like peanut butter. Taste it when you're done to adjust salt for the next batch.

Almond butter: Same, but with almonds (unsalted). I even use peanut oil for this.

Roasting is optional, but I like it better.

which i could tell from the time I was writing it

i am not creative at alllll
i could write lab reports all day
but i cantt write a damn PS
she even helped me find a good theme to write it around, and add stories, bla bla
but i cantt even get started without it seeming like im answering a prompt
this is hopeless

take a break first, chinook. I think you are really stressed out these days. Go and take some time off and come back to it, you should fresh and ready to go.

I had the same problem, which is why i threw away my first 2 drafts...even my current (whcih u read) i still think is lacking in many ways but in the end, you will never be happy with it. Just go with the advice you were given and write. If you are not a creative writer I wouldnt force it, it probably would just come off sounding wrong. At least thats what one of my drafts did. I dont think its really bad per say if you answer like a "prompt" as long as its personal to you and unique.

Nice! I'm going to try the peanut butter one. The almond spread sounds too expensive.

Oh, man! Can I relate to this one. That was the problem with the first 8 drafts of my PS. No soul. No me-ness (whatever that is). You should stop for a bit and really think about the question, "Why do you want to be a doctor?" Then tell your story with examples to back it up (my first 8 editions didn't have this and that was the soul they were missing. Nothing about what makes me unique, just blathering). It doesn't need to be creative, it just needs to be you. Don't try to make yourself into something you're not and definitely don't don't try to write the PS that you think the adcom's want to hear (this is what I did and it ended up very formulaic and bland).

Really do some soul searching. Think about your volunteer experiences, your school experiences, family experiences, reasearch experiences, etc. and say why you want to be a doctor. What about that x number of years in your life has sent you down such a difficult path.

When you're writing it you can also think about your essay in terms of writing an arguement. What would someone say about your x statement? How would you show them x is true. Give examples and mix in experiences. Creativity can sometimes hurt you. Just speak from the heart. 😉

Yep, good points. They will never be perfect.


I also agree with Blue on this one, maybe take a couple days to rest and repose (parasympathetic baby! Sorry, MCAT study day, couldn't resist). Breaks are sometimes more valuable to a quality product than direct continued work, because they allow you to approach your project with a renewed focus and perspective.

Im applying to EVMS, VCU, and univ maryland! Though with all the schools im aplpying to i think i could possibly be in every state....

I'm thinking EVMS is going to be a tough choice, man. The only thing I would advise you about there is they have a very high matriculation rate from their SMP program, so their OOS stats are abnormally skewed.

Not to mention their GPA... Just an FYI to think about.
