I have a dilemma,

here goes. So i appplied to this UNC-Chapel Hill summer medical program and got a rejection letter. they only accept like 10-15% OOS b/c 80-85% are NC residents. So since i didn't get into a summer program, i decided that i will take current courses, already started at comm college, and 10 cr. hr at my university june-july. Will also take a mini vacation with the family and do other stuffed that i had planned months ago.

Just today, UNC called me and said that the dean of admissions really liked my app and was considering me for a spot if someone drops out of the program. So being at the #1 spot on the waitlist, i will be called soon if something opens up. The program runs May 26-July 25. This will completely ruin my summer plans which i plan to
1. finish my TMDSAS and AMCAS app
2. finish at least 16 cr. hr of classes so i can graduate with 2 degree by spring 2010
3. family vacation. plus i have to tell my mom about the program if i do happen to go and hope she does not get mad.
4. return to UT-Houston on a student panel for their summer interns which i accepted already 2 weeks ago.

so my problem is...if i do get a spot, what should i do as i really want to do both, got to UNC and do my summer plans. what about my med school app? i'm really confused on what i should do.

Can you not apply while you are in this summer program? They do have computers at UNC, right?

UNC has computers but i will need some of my stuff to fill out the app. this is only part of the problem. i really need those summer courses to graduate in spring 2010 with 2 degrees. i'm already maxed out this fall with 21 cr. hr. that i cannot overload anymore.

i don't know anymore. going to UNC would give me a shot at their med school. but doing my summer plans would let me complete my plans for fall and spring semester. i took summer school b/c i want to graudate on time with 2 degrees.

Why are you doing two degrees??? Honestly, I think the UNC program would look more impressive than being able to brag about 2 degrees.

Do you really need two degrees? If it's just for the novelty of getting both, do the summer program. If the second degree will do something for your future, then do that. Also I wouldn't stress out about it until you hear if you get in. Good luck.

Point 2 - do boys have nothing better to do but sit on sdn all day? I vote girls win.

Yeah, I studied out of a book for a month and took the test and passed. I previously worked in engineering, so the only difficult part was learning a bunch of drugs and their generic equivalents.

I don't mention that part too much at work since a few of our other techs completed programs at local VoTech schools for upwards of $5,000.

same here. i am studying out of a book and will take it june or july? not sure yet. but it shouldn't be too hard for pre-meds. 😀

my second degree is in poli sci. i want to do MD/JD. Just got accepted into a govt. internship today for this fall semester which will help me a lot with getting political exposure.

Do you need the major in poli sci to go MD/JD, or could you do that with just a minor? Or for that matter, do you need your science major?

getting both won't hurt. biology gives me science background and poli sci gives me political background. i'm minoring in chem already and am done with that. poli sci minor and major has a diff of 3 class. why not do a major as well?

I don't think there's anything wrong with doubling majoring if that's what you want to do. But it doesn't seem like you can do all of it. I'd probably turn down the UNC thing just because you have so much stuff set up for the summer already, but that's just me.

It can't hurt, unless it kills your GPA because you were taking 21 hours and doing an internship and interviewing all at once. You can't do it all.
