Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
2ndaries are FREE with fap for all the schools im applying to except the univ. of maryland, they charge 75 bucks so basically 45 secondaries will run me 75 dollars. I can handle that 🙂. The scholarship was through the hospital i volunteer at. They have one to pay for primarys and give some extra money for 2ndaries.

shirt in a can may be my answer😉. I could take out a large loan this summer but im very hesitant to do so...but if nothing works out i may just take out like a 2k student loan or so to pay for travel expenses and my suit.

wait wait....secondaries are free if we qualigy for FAP? the site doesn't say that. are you sure? i thought we only get a fee reduction.

no, they're free. in the msar you can see a list of which schools take the fee waiver and which don't... fee waiver means you show them proof that you have FAP and they waive the secondary fee. yay! (there was a whole thread about this... it even applies to schools beyond the 13 freebies for AMCAS.)

Fee reduction refers to the primary applications. The secondary applications are free to basically all US MD schools(only about 10 dont accept it). Its awesome🙂 Hence why i applied to 45 schools. I do have another option to pay for travel and stuff but if i take it, ill feel like a horrible human being 🙁

Maryland is evil. Not only to they not take fap fee waivers, they have one of the longest 2ndaries in the history of man -_-.

Shut...up! yall are pulling my leg.

seriously? the MSAR says fee waiver but i thought reduced price. EX: Baylor's secondary cost $80 but with FAP it costs $45.

no joke dude like i said reduction refers to the primary. If you are super paranoid call fap and they will tell you for all schools who say they accept fee waiver, the 2ndary is free🙂

Still Under Review. :lame:

amcas hates u 🙁. If it makes you feel better I acutally think i got verified twice...as i got two emails about it. One yesterday and one today 🙂....

dont hate me blue:meanie:

ok i called some of the schools with the expensive secondaries. they said it's waived!!! FREE!!! :soexcited: That's a lot of money that i will save.

so which schools accept the FAP but we still have to pay the reduced secondary fee?

All other US MD schools will waive the 2ndary fee with fap. Some puerto rican schools dont take fap but...i never care about those as no one here is applying to them.

Also there is no such thing as a reduced 2ndary fee. If a school takes FAP the 2ndary is free end of story.

boo. sorry about that, blue.

nope, totally serious. (dumb question-- is baylor a TMDSAS school or AMCAS?)

AMCAS. they take FAP but you still have to pay $45. i called them myself to check.

lol just does 😉. And thats realllllllly odd about baylor, the whole point of FAP is seondary fees are waived (i.e free). Baylor is certainly the exception not the rule. Theres no way to tell how many schools will just reduce the fee but rest assured that very few schools do that...in fact baylor is the only school ive ever heard of or talked to that do that.

damn, I've been a terrible mood listening to the same thing over and over again from my princeton review students who just got their MCAT scores,

so I just wanted to say something.

Dear class of 2014ers and beyond,

Please do not take the MCAT until you are ready to do so. That means that you are scoring consistently and competitively (whatever that means to you and to the schools that you are applying to) on the AAMC practice exams. For an allopathic target, I, personally, would not be comfortable writing an actual exam if I have scored <10 in any section of the MCAT on a recent practice AAMC exam. If you are scoring between 25-31, I would also be wary.

As a princeton review employee and a tutor gnome, I do not think that TRP and Kaplan exams are great predictors of the actual MCAT. They are written by students (on a stipend). Some of the kids that I know that have written Kaplan questions have scored less than 8s on the sections they are attending to. Some kaplan exams are off the wall. They do, however, make good q-banks if needed.

You think TRP and Kaplan teachers should be experts or whatever. They are not. I was the only one during training that had actually taken the CBT MCAT (only one other person actually took a real MCAT). The recruiting policy for teachers are not set in stone. They say 11+. BULL****. They actually take whoever. All you have to do is take a 20 q subject test (not passage based). They say you have to do well. They didn't even grade it.

If they need teachers, they need teachers. These companies are there to make money (and rightfully so, with benefits to employees - usually young students, and at cost to the consumer - who are usually students, as well). You should not follow the company's syllabus. You need to look out for self and tackle your weaknesses and solidify your strengths. I would not really attend the lectures. Doing problems on your own is more important and you should use the teachers to consult you on those specific problems. The money back guarantee is not real. They told us on the first day, back when, that they have never ever returned money back. Usually, they get you to retake the course. Yet, nothing changes until you recommit to tackling the exam the right way.

Getting into medical school should not be a race. I know some tools make it seem like it at times, but those same tools actually put it a lot of their time into their goals. Maybe more than you. However, you need to ONLY concentrate on yourself.

If you want to go to medical school, then take your time in doing things right. Play the game. Get the MCAT right on the first try, they will see all of your scores no matter what. If you are re-taking, make sure you improve substantially, to satisfy your goals, and the medical schools that you are applying to (note: some schools will average the MCAT). Again, AAMC scores are a decent indicator. Kaplan and TPR, do not connect well to the actual exam, and are graded more leniently.

Realize that you want truly want to practice medicine. Also realize that you probably want to live long, as well. Then realize that you want to practice medicine for the rest of your long life (this is something you cannot control). Taking a year off to get **** right is not a big deal. **** what your parents or friends think. Invest in the process, and, please, approach the MCAT and your application season with confidence.

i would, but then i feel like i have to attend to their questions 🙁

i do enough of those. but fine, i will

Still Under Review. :lame:
Sucks man. Mine was under review from like 3:00 pm until like noon the next day. They had to make a ton of changes, so I'm sure it went through multiple supervisors and such.

Man, I don't even have that many grades or credits.👎

Wrong! Don't like it, don't come! :meanie:
And remember a couple schools having worse secondaries. I thought Georgetown's was a big 👎

...and 45?! Good luck staying on top of those secondaries. Make a spreadsheet on Excel or something

i didnt even bother with evms. Since they actually do a screening process i figured id do it if i make the cut. Also apparently I just read last years thread...and i wont make the cut as an OOS resident...should have read it beforei wasted 31 dollars: (. Is there a way i could take it off my list and replace it with another school after i already paid and applied?

also would you mind sorta sheding some light on how you went about this profession question for maryland?

There's no reason for their secondary to be so long. Also, I think they should let in more OOS students because they're private anyway.

i am applying to Loma linda ksmi.

i'll save it for after i'm married. i can live without alcohol as well.

That's cool, man. whatever works for you. You will have to keep me posted about what you think of Loma Linda though.

When your stats are way above harvards you know you are a lock...thats why kissme scares me 🙁

It's not all stats. 😉

Eesh...I'm paying $750 for 20 schools. I was just over the limit to get FAP, so all of the money I'm making this summer is going to apply to medical school and pay rent.

Welcome to my world, man. I am still trying to get FAP, but I don't know if I'll qualify yet.

I wonder if they get a kickback from the state for allowing more in-state students in.

Must... not... turn... into... a.... gunner... like ksmi.

oh youre right. I was just looking at the column that says whether or not they accept the amcas fee waiver...it said no so i moved on. They dont accept the fee waiver, but thats because they have no fee lol. This was what i got off SDN a while ago. I just attached the one im using (though it has my school list/notes on it sorry). You can delete the schools anyways 🙂

Ok there we go, ignore the attachment at the top 🙂

Thanks elijah, I think I'm gonna use your excel sheet.😀

where can i get a spreadsheet like that? please? 🙂

Not quite done. I'd give myself ~75% at this point.

I think he's using yours because he's applying to almost all the same schools.

Download one of theirs and just delete their med schools and add your own. 👍

your wisdom is truly astounding.
