You guys wake-up way too early for not having classes or work... I don't get it. If I didn't have to be anywhere I would sleep into noon every day and I wouldn't feel bad about it either.

I had to be at rounds at 7 this morning. yahoo. weird thing is i'm getting used to getting up earlier. must be the post-college thing setting in. or not.

Yeah, the two days that I don't work I'm in bed until 12. Unless I have something to do, which hasn't really happened lately. My life is pretty damn boring when I'm not in school.
My Letters were received by AMCAS today! I guess that's my reward for freaking myself out over completing my committee packet before I finished finals. So, I'm done worrying about anything until secondaries now, unless I wanted to start filling some of those out (I think I'll wait).

I want my letter to be done. 🙁 LSU won't even tell me whenish I can expect it or even how many people are before me. Meanies.

That was the fear I had about the committee. Also not knowing how many people are ahead of you really sucks, because who can tell with the set of pre-meds LSU has?

Well I'm gonna do all I can with secondaries and stuff and if this letter thing takes forever than so be it. Nothing I can do now.

Aw, dammit. Now I actually have something productive to do. I'm not sure if I'm frustrated or happy.
How do you know if it's up yet? Is is just the same link from last year that has been refreshed for this year's?

Because I'm crazy and have looked up all the secondary stuff on all my schools. Last week, there was no option to create a new user and now there is and it says 2010 at the top of it when you log in, so it's def. ours. I've decided what I'm writing about for the general write about whatever you want to question, but fitting it in 2000 characters is proving to be very hard.

but I love Baylor... I just wish that everyone and their mom that's from LSU wouldn't apply there. Baylor is probably the one place that LSU students that are only applying in-state will apply to OOS. And there's not that many spots. That's why I feel horrible about my chances there.

Well darn, while we were still in school, we should have spread rumors about how awful Baylor is so that no one would apply there. :meanie:

Sometimes internet sarcasm is hard to pick up. I'll put it in a post, then realize that others might not get it or find it offensive (after it's up, of course). There's definitely an art to writing it and reading it.

... but that might have worked for the less informed premeds... :laugh:

Maybe the booze helps keep us in bed... :shrug: Although if that's the trick, then there is definitely a fine art to it, because too much of it and you're up at 5 or 6 AM feeling like complete arse, but too little and you're no better off than without it...

Ha ha. I try with sarcasm on here but it's so tough, because most people just think I'm an @ss, when in reality I'm just being sarcastic... But oh well. I'm too lazy to correct the misconception or to change my sarcastic ways.

Unfortunately, just about everything you do for the rest of your life will be dependent on your weight. Fat people are viewed as lazy slobs and whether it's right or wrong that's the stigma.

I missed this whole fat/weight conversation, and I'm so glad (for you all) that I did. I think that's absolutely ridiculous. I don't think I could be on any sort of team that had those restrictions, and I'm in pretty good shape myself. Also, why did no one mention that there is a big difference between being stick-thin and being called the "fat team"? I hope nobody here thinks they need to be under 100 lbs to get into med schools, residencies, or anything. Gross.

We don't have to be stick-thin. Just proportionate. The dancers on the other hand have to be stick-thin to make their team to start with. Plus their weight restrictions are insane. They cannot gain more than 5 pounds if they are above like 5'5" (3 pounds if shorter). Ours are a bit more lenient.

I don't think anyone is saying that you need to be stick thin, I think the point was more that if you appear to be very overweight that could affect you in life (Med apps, residency, etc.).

But I certainly don't think the emaciated look would be good either.

Judging from the docs at our university hospital...id say looks has zero role in admissions for the women :meanie:....if only it did............................😛

I think it's different once people stagnate at a position. If they are content being a doc and don't want to move up to director or any other type of advancement people can become complacent and start to add those extra pounds. I would be willing to guess that there are very few very overweight people admitted to medical school. I think there are multiple reasons for this, one being the obvious weight and the other are the social and psychological factors that typically are associated with the obese.

my school too. i had my committee interview in february! i think i ranted about this a few pages back, actually, so i'll shut up not :laugh:

actually only one doc is kinda fat, even then shes not like morbidly obese, most are skinny....but being honest, these are some ugly women lol...only one is even remotely hot...and even then i think its more her surroundings greatly increase her looks :laugh:. That and shes a 1st yr resident, so maybe she still cares where the 3-4th years are like **** it we dont care😛

If it will get them to stop talking about hot girls, I'm all for it. Really guys, it's getting old; it's been old. Not only does it make all of you look like vulgar asses, it also ostracizes all the girls and the guys who actually have some decency to keep those kinds of thoughts to themselves. Obviously here you feel the need to "express yourself" since, let's face it, in real life you can't go around saying whatever you want about whomever you want. But here (as in 2014) is not the place for y'all to unleash your hormones. If you must talk about it, go post in the Lounge. If you want this thread to be a sausage fest, by all means, continue, because that's what it will become.

I guess I am ????? Seriously though i know im just messing around and im sure oc is too no need to get all crazy. I guess i will only talk about medical school related things.👍 Its not like every man in america doesnt talk about these thing at some point when women are not around...i realize that there are women here so you might not wanna hear it but its not like its a constant barage.

Yes, we realize that guys talk about girls like that. The fact of the matter is we don't want to hear it. I wouldn't say that it isn't a constant barage though. I swear someone says something about some hot/ugly chick every day.

true story. and it's not even just one post each day-- each "hot girl" post inevitably starts a whole conversation that often has the end result of demeaning women and making fun of BlueElmo (which i'm not entirely opposed to, but I'm sure we can find better ways to do it 😀)

Yeah, I don't think it has a lot to do with looks, since those are outside of most individuals control (although they do play a role, but I'm guessing less so in the interview/acceptance process), but fitness in general is fairly indicative of how someone leads their life. Are they motivated? Determined? Able to stick something through, even when they might not want to?

All of these are factors that play into weight, for both men and women.

Sigh, I'll take this as directed towards me, but I think I have done a fairly good job of not bringing it up for the last couple weeks. Now you guys are being nit picky and hypersensitive, because the female talk has died down and ANYTIME it comes up you do the very female retort, you guys ALWAYS talk about this...

Plus, I really don't care if you ladies talk about guys, it would give us a better perspective on how you ladies view us as well.

I am not going to promise to take it to that extreme. This is a random peripherally med related thread, and while I will certainly not try to litter it with testosterone driven tirades, I will probably insert a few here or there. :shrug:

Yes, but that's not it. The way you guys talk about girls makes it seem like in the end a girl's personality isn't worth anything. Her whole purpose in life is to do your bidding and make you happy by being hot and sexy. I'm honestly surprised that y'all think a girl should be able to go into medicine to start with. Seriously, when I didn't post, what joke comes up? "ksmi went nursing," because that's what girls do. Maybe it's all a joke taken a little too far, or maybe it's how you really think.

And I know that you guys wouldn't like it if we talked about guys, because guess what. We wouldn't talk about how hot guys are. Yes, appearance plays some part, I'm not denying that, but we sure don't put as much into it as you guys do. You'd have to listen to us talk about cute things that a guy said or did, and then you'd all make comments about how he lost man points for being a pansy.

I can understand that, and I distinctly remember posting a few days/weeks ago that a woman's personality is MORE important than her looks. I was also joking about the Nursing statement, and I didn't feel that it went too far. If you took offense to it, you should build some more self-confidence, because you are both a woman and probably the single most qualified applicant of the 2010 application pool. While your experiences make you different than a lot of other applicants (Math background, CG, Leadership, and amazing GPA/MCAT), you have done everything necessary to gain acceptances to most medical school, as a woman. I can't say that of myself, as a guy. Medicine doesn't care what sex you are (assuming you're not applying later in life and planning on having children), it's about who is the most qualified for the job, and you are very qualified, ksmi, so I think that's why I'm somewhat shocked that my comment affected you so much. I think I assumed you would take it as a joke, the way it was intended, and possibly come up with a quippy comeback... But I guess not. If it really did offend you, I apologize.

it has nothing to do with the guy/girl thing. it just turned mad serious all of a sudden. its like when all the roomates in Real World come back from a good night out, and someone is staring at someone else, and the all hell breaks out.

Next day, they are all hugging it out, until someone gets kicked out. sneaky.
