nah. This board as a way of making one a little panicky at times though. Reading about people who already have interviews is making me feel that way but I have to remember that late around here is still early.

Blue likes to pretend he's chill. I think what I like the most about this thread is that we can all talk each other out of the freak out sessions. Like one of us gets all worried about something stupid and the others calm them down.

No regular posters here have interviews yet, right? I would have remembered that.
 
Hey everyone! Just got back from a stressful day at work-I work at a restaurant in a mall and we had a huge hail storm which caused power to go out in half the mall. Of course that half of the mall has every single restaurant in it except for ours so we were crazy busy!!


ksmi-i definitely don't have any interviews yet!

I got the same email, looks like it works for no one. I would say get used to it if you come to UCI, if theres one thing this places loves its being unorganized and making everyhting harder then it has to be😉. so many bad memories with the bio student affairs office🙁

I just added Case and the University of Rochester... starting to stretch out of our home turf of the Midwest, and I think it's making my fiance a little uncomfortable. She's applying to grad programs in pharmacology this fall/winter (she also graduates in 2010).

Sort of a give and take, we both really want to get into the same school, but at the same time we'd like to stay near friends/family around here ('here' is Iowa for me, Chicago for her).

Any other school suggestions before it's too late to add more?

😳 Thanks... in other news, the lab work I'm doing this summer has gotten extremely repetitive, much more tedious than last summer. I'm finding it difficult to push through the last couple weeks of the program, and I've still got to throw together a poster presentation by the end of next week. :smack:

lol of course. The campus is pretty nice actually UCI must be getting money from somewhere because they are building **** like crazy, especially on the med campus. They just built a brand new hospital about 6 months ago...the thing is amazing seriously, its pathetic but the patient rooms are nicer then graduate housing i live in on campus ahah...🙁 UCI is pretty if nothing else 🙂

well its not too noticeable yet, but it should be worse as the months go on. They have increased tuition across the board for all schools (including med), cut back on teachers, less tenure, increased class sizes, and certain majors and schools are getting the axe. Financial aid is getting cut (I lost about 3K in need based grants for this fall quarter) and they were replaced by loans. I mean its getting so bad they literally count the paperclips used in the office and make counselors by their own supplies and paper for the printers. I dont know how UCs can sustain the low tuition rates honestly.

Agree with Elijah. They're hiking student fees continously, laying off faculty and staff, increasing furloughs, cutting classes, reducing deparment fundings, etc, etc. It's pretty hard times for UCs, CSUs, and community colleges in California right now. For example, I recently read they're cutting off some kidney program or something at UC Davis Medical School.
Tough times.

I don't know about the medical schools, but my California state school, Cal Poly Pomona, had all its summer classes cut. Then, once cut, the classes were re-introduced as five week sessions for four times the regular cost (labelled as "extended university" classes). Full time tuition jumped from $1300 a quarter to just over $4,000 for the summer quarter.

Southern California is fun in the sun, but consider the state's budget crises before moving out here. Its a mess in LA.
 
I'm kind of apprehensive how the UC medical schools will be affected in the coming years.
 
maybe UC med schools will end up charging as much as private schools...

unless ucs are going to start falling in the quality of education and opportunites they provide, which all 3 of us know are pretty damn good compared to many public universities, tuition rate increases are going to be mandatory over the next 5 years imo. I honestly wouldnt be all that surprised if by the time we grad med school, if tuition isnt 10k higher per year...:scared:. Itll be a sad day if UC tuition nears USC -_-, i dont think itll ever be that bad but still...its something i worry about if I do attend a UC for md school

No one reads the stickies. And obviously no one uses the search engine. The problem with these threads is that regular users won't just let them die a quick death once the question has been answered.

Yeah, as hard as it may be to believe, we try really hard not to step in unless absolutely necessary. So people annoyingly dragging on overdone topics is not something we'd close a thread for. If people start fighting or there is obvious trolling, we will.

yay i got my 2nd rejection! I know I shouldnt care but still each one does sting🙁, it would sting less if i had some interview invites though 🙂

Yes, I know there's some interview invites already, but mostly schools like Michigan with auto-invites (or is Michigan the only one that does that?).

actually ive gotten 3 haha...mayo, wake, and univ nebraska. 2 were expected, i was a bit shocked i didnt get wake.

Doing the same IP protocol literally 20 times in the past 2 weeks. Sometimes I think bench research is about repeating something until you get the result you want enough times to make it plausible. Just ignore the other 50 times you had to run it. 🙄

Also killing lots of mice for their bone marrow, which I don't particularly enjoy.

i got UWash. expected. didnt really hurt too much once i thought about all the rain i'd gotten myself out of.

ill probably join you soon enough with wake 🙁 though id really like to get a secondary from there
