you guys spend money on the first date?! sheesh...

the trick is to spend no money, but make it a fun ADVENTURE!

for example...sneaking into playground at 2 am; ladies?

fun date?? hells yea

got laid?? f*ck yea

case closed.

moral of the story: spend as little as possible on the first date, cause youll be paying out your ass later on!

thats weird, I always figured it's the opposite. like a guy is pulling out all the stops at the beginning to impress you, and then it levels off a bit once you've been out a few times.

i'm no gold digger but i would definitely be put off if a guy tried to take me on a free first date. just because i would think, "ok if he isn't even trying to impress me NOW, it's only downhill from here." besides . . . nice dates are a nice gesture if you really like a girl.

if all you want is to get laid that night, don't take a nice girl on a date anyway. go to a bar and get thee a bar skank. if you've met a girl who you think you could take home to meet mom, then for Godsakes take her on a nice date and don't expect her to put out on the first date . . . even if she wants to she might not, so as not to appear skanky.

mary, i 100% agree with you.

the problem is, ive yet to meet a girl worth taking "home to meet mom"

not to mention, my mom is intimidating as SH|T!! she terrifies me!! i wouldnt wanna put any girl through that unless i was damn sure of how i felt.

which brings us around to where this came from...yet to meet a girl worth it. so till then...just truckin along.

PS: but honestly, i find that the free dates are the best time to engage with someone. when everything is so formalized, and so planned out, the people involved are typically the same. i tend to let things happen...but then again props for the $85 first date! i dont think i have that kind of money to dish out on a girl that wont be around for course add/drop the next semester 😛

How about a happy middle ground. No need to spend $85 but don't take me on a free date either. At least show you're a gentleman by offering to pay for something even if its just coffee.

never said i wouldnt pay for something. if ever our adventure led to a situation where green needed to be shed, you can bet im not gonna let you take your wallet out. concurrently, im hoping that my company is captivating enough that youre not gonna need a nice restaurant dinner to get to know me. maybe its me and the type of girl im looking for. id like to be able to do things with someone without coughing up an arm and a leg. but if the right girl comes along, i wont hesitate to do so

im actually still in lab equilibrating a column before i run a sample. then im out. till then...i will watch over the 2014 thread with my ever-vigilant gaze... 😏

+1 👍👍 It's about the gesture, not the money. Whether you invite me to a fancy restaurant or a coffee shop for a date, I might offer to pay to be nice, but I'll be waiting to see if you do it. not because i'm cheap or can't afford it, but because i want to know you consider me to be worth trying to impress! don't you worry, if i like you it will pay off in time. oh yes it will . . .

i think that might also be why the charm of the free date is wearing off for me . . . it's cute when your date is 21 . . . not so cute when he is 26+

im still working in young girl mode...i guess i need to switch into young woman mode when i get to med school!!

and i most CERTAINLY did not mean that! i'm 21 so you fall into the 'older' category in relation to me. i dont understand why girls get so offended by being called 'older'! i was using it as a point of flattery...that the more mature (?? is that an acceptable adj??) a woman gets, the more she needs being taken care of

thats all...

but if you feel more comfortable ordering the smaller portion sizes of mushed up food from the senior citizen menu, be my guest! 🙄
 
As a 20 year old there is a difference between going to a zoo or garden etc with free admission and going to a play ground because its free. haha
Depending what you do for free it may not quite count as a date as much as an activity. I think date implies a little more special effort. Thats just me.

Yeah, too much. But I think fancy dinner dates are weird anyway. I like the cute free/cheap dates. That way it's more like you're just hanging out, getting to know each other, instead of the whole: this is a romantic date thing.

im so glad you saved me with your free/cheap date comment. i guess as girls get older theyre looking for more serious relationships and some sort of financial security?? i feel like in college everyone understands that we all have tight budgets and its just about having a good time and getting to know the person

i guess im a younger lady at 2😛 I don't really care what I do on a date, it doesn't have to cost anything. I agree with whoever said it's more about the gesture and how the guy treats you than how much money they spend.

a think a date can be any 1 on 1 time with a girl/guy youre interested in as long as its made clear that there might be some chemistry a-brewin!

I agree with that but I think essentials are that a)some special effort is put in and b) both are aware that they are on a "date"

I suppose watching a movie at a guys house could be a date but again, it requires it be more than an afterthought. In my mind there best be popcorn at least!

yeah- when you're both in college it's like you're in the same boat of brokeness. so it's okay, plus there's more fun stuff to do. like going to parties or just walking around town or whatever. especially if you both don't have cars either (thats how my first couple college relationships were.) but now if i was gonna go on a date with a guy who was 26-30, and he couldn't afford a date still . . . I mean, red flag, right? Does he live with mom? Does he have a job? A car? Who knows?? and I want to be a doctor. I don't want to be anyone's sugar momma! :scared: unless he is sexy and likes to cook and clean

Hi guys. I'm applying this year, but I figured I would wait to post until after took my MCAT to make sure that I was really going to apply this year.

Have any of you guys received interviews yet? I'm feeling like I might be a little behind, because I'm going to submit my AMCAS on Wed. But I guess we just do what we can...

Haha, I don't know about the no awkward moments thing. I'm a little awkward in those types of situations, but few awkward moments works. I think something like that could definitely help alleviate awkwardness. But you still gotta be charming the whole time so that she'll want to see you again.

Finding the charming guys seems to be my problem. This summer has been highly unsuccessful. A guy who flat out told me that he just wanted sex, a guy who just got out of a year long relationship with my friend, a guy who keeps doing the "let's do date-like things, but pretend it's not a date" thing. How do I end up getting asked out by such winners? What made me so lucky? 🙄
