Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
why not just learn it correctly the first time? sounds like someone's gonna be wasting mad time as a doctor.

by the way, how is your princeton review teaching going?

The calc sequence goes I, II, and III. Then advanced calc is when you relearn calc I, II, and III correctly. Weird to think that regular calculus is way over simplified, huh? But it is.

I'm grateful I switched to pre-pharm. Two years of undergrad prep? You bet! No higher level maths for this guy.

If I don't get in, I'm still taking biochem and applying to med schools.

1. You have to have some knowledge of calc to understand what exactly you're trying to do. 2. Because it's insanely complicated. Theorems, proofs, and what not. The two adv. calc. classes are the hardes in my major

No class yet because of schedule conflicts but I'm doing a lot of other stuff like grading essays and tutoring. It's going well. 👍

i see. i'm not a fan of teaching there. when i do my research year, i'm gonna start my own company or take over a campus mcat program. you down?

Didn't you say you were teaching the ACT?

i *think* i know exactly what you mean (from the engineering perspective). it would be great to be able to go back and relearn calculus.

cuz how many people REALLY understand the first concepts behind what they're doing when they do something as simple as, for example, u substitution?

and that's not even considering more advanced calculus. green's theorem, divergence theorem, stoke's.

there's no way you can except freshmen/sophomores learning calculus for the first time to have that level of understanding

Yeah, it's a lot of learning why you do things in regular calculus. I mean we all know how to differentiate, but why do you multiply the coefficient by the exponent and then subtract one from the exponent? That kinda thing.

I was so excited that I didn't have to take math at all during my undergrad. I found out in like, March, that UC Davis and UCLA don't take any AP credit, so I have to retake the classes anyway. Calc I and Stats are guaranteed A's for anyone that took them in high school. I seriously don't understand why those schools want me to retake them.

Oh, I didn't get any e-mails from any medical schools yesterday or today. It's really a bizarre feeling after getting something in the mail virtually every day since July 1st.

is there any way to play with people you know?

i dont think so. but i know that yahoo games has a tetris-like game (nblox) that you can play with friends. i have an account if you guys wanna play

does anyone know how to write in a non-fillable pdf...the univ of toledos 2ndary app is a pdf but you cant write in it, handwriting an app is so fail, trying to avoid it.
Hey, download formulate pro. It's free, and I remember you have a mac right? It's worked well for me so far...

Ugh, that's what I was trying to say this morning, but I was at work and I couldn't for the life of me remember what program I had gotten. I'll second formulate pro. It's also how I mark my answers to pdf tests (had some mcat ones).

Wow, yall posted a crapload since I last logged on.
JimmerJammer, what message did you get to consider it a pre-interview hold for VCU? I think I might be on hold, too, I just haven't quite considered it an official hold yet because it didn't say "you're on hold"

Something like: "We would like to consider your file further, but we may or may not be able to grant you an interview."

Anybody know how long the wait is right now between submitting a LOR electronically from Interfolio and having it acknowledged on AMCAS??

Ok, because that's what I got and I thought it seemed like a hold, but I wasn't sure. I mean, it sounds like one.

Apparently there are like 5 different messages that are possible.

Basically they are:
1. We are very excited to interview you, expect and invitation shortly.
2. We like you a lot and plan to interview you at some point.
3. We want to continue reviewing your file and may or may not interview you.
4. We have some reservations about you, but it's still possible to get an interview.
5. Rejection.

Check out the VCU thread for more info.

Yeah, actually I was the one that posted that.
I just wasn't sure if the status thing was deemed worthy of being "on hold"
Their messages are quite ambiguous and have a tendency to be kind of double-edged.

the actual process is instant. amcas acknowledgment takes at least one business day. for you, you might have to wait until monday. good thing is that school will download the letter immediately. you are still early. good job!

Now I'm craving mac and cheese. Not like kraft kind, but good homemade kind yummm

Learning to cook is on my agenda once I finish moving.

I've been tracking my current food&EtOH expendetures and they unsustainable on student loans🙁.

Leaving me two options
1. Less carry out and restaurants.🙁
or
2. Less alcohol.
