so have any of you googled yourself to see what comes up? do you think adcoms ever do that?

it turns out there's one other person with the same name as me. who apparently runs track and is on a debate team 😀 so if anyone googles me, maybe they will think i am some awesome runner. and i never even had to get off my couch!

if adcoms google me they will find i dont exist...as my real last name is something i never use 🙂. I use a shorter version. Not to mention id be surprised if anyone else had my last name...

My mom's coming with me to at least two interviews. One is because we decided to make a trip out of it and we'll be spending the weekend in the city afterwards. The other is because I wouldn't be arriving in the city until somewhere between 9 and 10 pm and my family are very overprotective. 🙄

I guess I can understand being afraid of having a female alone in a new city, but I feel like, Jeez, give me a little credit! I'm not going to run down a strange alley alone... besides things could still happen with my mother there.

In either instances, I've already told my mom that she is NOT to accompany me to the schools, and she's fine with that. It's also nice when you're mother is picky about where she stays...so I get to stay in at least 2 nice hotels. 👍

This sounds bad but I've definitely googled myself every now and then. It's kinda worse recently because I always wonder what people will find about me. Luckily, anything about me that shows up just backs up all the info I've put on my primary. 👍

That's good🙂 do you think it's unprofessional when twitter/facebook come up, or would adcoms probably expect us to be involved in these kinds of social networking sites?
 
ive googled my interviewers before so i guess they could as well. i totally deleted my fb tho

Hmm, I wouldn't think it's unprofessional. I mean, it's not something that's bad to be involved with. I would just make sure that everything on your twitter/facebook is something you wouldn't mind adcoms seeing and wouldn't hurt your chances for getting accepted.

Personally, my facebook doesn't show up when I google because I've always been very strict in regards to my privacy settings. At the same time, if someone were able to obtain access to my profile I would not be afraid that anything I posted would upset adcoms.

Actually, now that you mention it, googling myself is how I remembered to go and check on my (really really really old) myspace page. 👎 :laugh:

No, I think they expect most young people to use it. If your profile pic is viewable by all though, make sure it's not something you wouldn't want them to see.

actually, that's why i googled myself- i tried to set my facebook page so it wasn't searchable by my name, and i wanted to see if it worked. it did!

but my whole extended family has discovered facebook recently and now they are all my friends so . . . any questionable photos/comments were already gone 🙂 i don't want my aunt who's a nun to see a picture of me doing a blow job shot or fellating a pickle

i left the one of my friend doing it up, and took the one of me doing it down :laugh:

also i have to confess all these questionable photographs took place in Disney world. and also like, a mere ten minutes after entering the Magic Kingdom some guy called me an ass.hole. it really is the most magical place on earth . . .

If she goes with you, she knows she isn't going to go tour the school with you, and wait in the lobby while you interview right?

I think it would be stressful for me if my family tagged along with me for an interview. I like my zen time before I interview. Old habits die hard, I guess.

lol . . . yeah this interview is really high stakes for Ksmi . . . if she strikes out she's only have 15 more chances to get it right!!

. . . In all seriousness though, good luck. You know we're all just jealous 😛 But our time will come . . . when you withdraw your 15 acceptances and decide to attend _________?

Edited to add: I see she's only applying to 14 schools. I still maintain that she will get 15 acceptances . . . she's like Chuck Norris that way.

I'm interviewing the same day as my 5 year high school reunion! UNC in the morning, then driving 20 minutes away to watch my hs crush some random team in football 🙂

haha hopefully. It's unclear if anyone's actually going yet.

I was the fat kid in high school -- I'm 50lbs and 5 sizes down from where I was then, but I'm still trying to get a little smaller in the next 5 weeks 🙂. Especially since the bullies in hs have all gained weight (assuming their facebook profile pics are current)
 
congrats!

i went to a pretty tight hs and we got along really well but i dont see a big turnout for our 5 year (upcoming May). we do run into each other (our year's class size was 465) frequently at the local spots (and even in philly/nyc)
 
i think the 5-year reunion has become kinda unnecessary with the invention of facebook/myspace. i mean the point of a reunion is to see who got fat and who got knocked up, right? well thanks to facebook you already know!

against my better judgement I attended my 5-year event. it just reminded me how much i didn't like 90% of my class, and allowed me to catch up with a couple of my good friends and hang out with them- something i could have done without having to see everyone else!

i'm more looking forward to my ten-year . . . i'll be IN medical school, so that will be good. maybe by then i'll marry my hot boyfriend too, so i'll be in med school AND have a sexy husband. and no oops-babies. win!!

yeah, I kind of agree...but I have at least a dozen folks from high school that have either minimal fb pages or no fb at all, so I have no idea what's going on with them. Plus, it gives me an excuse to go shopping and get a new reunion outfit 🙂

I'm kind of bumming about it though b/c a lot of my friends from hs are currently deployed or stationed on the west coast--not likely that they'll make it for a 4-hour event.
