Ugh, I hate having time in between classes that's not long enough for me to go to my lab and work. An hour seems like a lot longer time than it did when I was a freshman (I guess because I actually did school work between classes back then :laugh:).
Still about 20 minutes until Marine Micro starts...
I want to hear from med schools, good or bad - it's been over 2 weeks since I've heard anything.

I think that it would save everyone time and trouble if these schools would all honestly tell us what they are SPECIFICALLY looking for in each applicant. As it is most know what they want and won't consider "special circumstances" if what they value does not depend on "special circumstances."

If they want a 35+ MCAT, don't just tell MSAR "hey, this is our average." Tell them to print "don't bother applying without X specifically if you are OOS, etc. I've heard of way too many phone calls made by nervous applicants where they are told by admissions "don't apply OOS without 34+" etc. They know. They should just tell us, that's all.

seriously. it's been 3 weeks for me... i guess instead i should be focusing on acing my interviews, since i'm so lucky to have gotten them, right? 😳

I got my second interview today which was pretty exciting, i havent heard from schools since the third week in July

I don't have the exact recipe, but I know it involves german chocolate and pecans. And I think there's a little sour cream to give it a smooth texture (you can't taste it). It's just amazing...

My friend made a cake with sour cream in it. I was skeptical, but it was amazing!

MDApps does that to me too.

yes, my quasi-tribal name again, batumba. I love it.

Anyhow, you'll enjoy it (I think).

Make sure to ask your tour guide lots of questions (especially if there is a 2+ year student there). It made the school even more impressive to me to hear what people like and don't like. Very different than the picture painted by previous applicants in years gone by...
 
wait the interview was closed-file? and how many applicants were there interviewing?
 
I just got a call from a 252 number (Greenville, NC) and I thought "OMG it's ECU!!!". I answer and the call immediately drops.

Call back, and it's some rando dentist office -- they dialed the wrong number. D'oh.

did y'all see the cyberknife? or any part of the hospital? I'm curious to hear what parts of the campus you actually see at these interviews...

Basically, they give you a very edited version of your AMCAS sans grades, MCAT score, and some numerical identifiers to give to your interviewer. My interviewer basically never looked at it and depended on me to provide ALL background about myself.

There were about 10 people.

Don't worry much. You'll do great. 👍

in other news, i'm walking home from work today... basically 75% of the length of the island of manhattan! woot.

Good point. haha, I'm actually still lookin at some bikes with skinny tires. I've always had a mtn bike, and I don't know if I'd be able to adjust to those fragile little road bikes :meanie:

We'll see what kind of job I get, and whether I have money to spend on that sort of thing.

Same deal here. Always had mountain bikes and always will, but I really don't get the opportunity to ride them very much. I've picked up the fixie bug because they're relatively cheap, simple, and fun. What I'd like to do is purchase components individually and piece it together.

My friend did that. His is a single speed, not a fixie though. It's beautiful and he worked on it for like a year. It only cost him like $200, but it's a real work of art. I'll see if I can find a pic on his facebook.

Not really. I know he used horizontal rear dropouts, so that made things a little tougher. I can't remember why that is.

Here it is. It's the best I could do. Almost everything on it is white:

well, my free gym membership expired yesterday and i HATE running. so i figure a good 7 mile power walk will do me good. then i can do pilates when i get home. woot!
 
Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one with gmail problems. My gmail finally let me view main in the standard view today, then crapped out just like all of yall's.

i read the thread.

one of the things that worry me in medicine is having a set group of colleagues. now most of the interviewees i met were really chill and all, but i had been out of school for a year, working full time, putting everything in attempt to get a little going with this medical career **** and i find that i might not relate with each and every one of them. i find some of them to be very academic, which means they are more free thinking. sometimes free-thinking allows for people to be tools and douchebags.

i really wished some ppl had real life job interview or other experiences where they would know how to interact with other applicants and med students appropriately. ie, you dont have to ask every med student for their phone number or email, just relax.

Yeah, I'm all about working with people that have differing viewpoints. In fact, it is one of the things I love about working with people. But one pet peeve of mine is people who feel they must make themselves look good at the expense of others.

Oh well.

i kind of agree. i feel like one of the only reasons i'm being chill-ish about this whole process is because i'm NOT in school anymore, and haven't been for 1.5 years. it's nice to be surrounded by people with totally different interests than me at work-- i'm like the weirdo that wants to go into medicine :laugh:

this is NOT to say that if you come to med school straight out of college you'll be an annoying tool! i just think the straight out of college crowd has a higher proportion of uptight annoying people than the time-off crowd.
