Are you planning on flaking on your WashU interview or something? It really won't be that hard if we're in the same office for a whole day. :laugh:

And what kind of surprise are you expecting? Because I promise, I'm just a normal person.

:laugh: Oops. If it makes you feel better I PMed someone who said they went to LSU, with like a "yay! I go to LSU too, good luck this year" message only to find out that it was a really close friend. I got annoyed with them for not telling them me it was them since they obviously knew who I was before the PM.

It helps if you're facebook friends with them, first.

to be honest. its going to be my first interview. and i have no idea what it will be like... didnt even have the idea that we will all be sitting in the same office for the entire day...

and my search on urban dictionary has given me 4 results of "flaking" none which i find appropriate for the context...

when i was at NYMC the other day, the dude giving us our orientation said, "yes, we go on interviewfeedback.com and see if you guys are bashing us" and i wanted to respond, "actually, it's student doctor network, and they have an interview feedback section." but i didn't.

in other news, rejection (snail mail) from JHU today. i guess they didn't like my yankees/red sox essay :laugh: i'm not so upset; i only tacked on the school because people told me to and i didn't really want to live in bmore anyway. looks like i'll be at least as far north as philly-- woohoo!

i got a bit bashed for my stats in the harvard thread, so there's no way i'd keep them in my mdapps. who needs to know, anyway... the schools i'm looking at and ultimately interviewing at should give you a pretty good idea of where i stand, right? meh.

yeah, JHU probs wouldn't have been the place for me so it's totes cool that the adcom realized this before i did 🙂

I was born about 30 min. outside of Starkville.

But I'm not there anymore. Prolly for the best.

Does anyone else find it odd the "top schools" that will interview us compared to others? I mean really, people are getting Harvard and Hopkins and NOT getting Vanderbilt or whatever else?

I think its less of a crap shoot and more of adcoms having a bad day.

Oh well.

thanks! and yes, super crapshoot. i have harvard, cornell, sinai, AECOM... and no UVM, jefferson, GWU, etc. although i subscribe to a theory that LET had last year-- as crapshooty as this seems to be, adcoms probably do have the concept of fit in mind, and that's a good thing. maybe it's just pure coincidence or luck, but i think it's significant that i've gotten invites at almost all the schools i'm passionate about/interested in their mission/can see myself there/whatever and only one of the schools i was ambivalent about. maybe this is all going to work out perfectly for us all in the end 🙂

yup I totally agree some of this is completely random! I have 0 love from my 4 state schools, but 11 interviews elsewhere? doesn't really make sense to me since I should theoretically be competitive at all of them but oh well😛 No beer for me (I only like water...strange, I know) but enjoy yours!🙂

dw and kissme-how did you respond when people asked you about sdn? it would be definitely awkward to have someone identify me as "jackson1" at an interview haha

im kinda tired of teaching the mcat (i do it around 10-20 hours a week), i dont like talking about the same things over and over

i think ill take the lsat/gmat and teach one of those

I laughed and said, "yeah that's me" then some disclaimer about how I'm really not as annoyingly perky in person. Then that's all I say, if they want to talk about it, I'll talk, but I leave it to them to bring things up. I'm much more a fan of IRL convo than SDN convo.

Disclaimer: if any of you meet me IRL, please please call me my real name (I've had a random SDN refer to me as ksmi and I was not happy). I will most certainly call you yours.

Hmm, thinking... I'm not as annoyingly perky as I used to be on here either. But I really don't post much outside of here, the mod forum, and the school threads, so there's not much room for perky, I guess.

ouch, that would suck. speaking of wash u, i think i'm going to apply there today. turns out i like a few of their researchers, the s.o. has family in st. louis, and my mom read a brochure about them and wants me to apply :laugh:. oh well, why not, right?
 
I think even more annoying than being called by your SDN name is people fishing for your SDN name. I actually had someone start talking about another school while at an interview and how "so and so from SDN" was obsessed with it. That was pretty lame.

I later met "so and so from SDN" while at that interview and found him to be way cooler than the way the random commentator presented him.
