Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm waiting to rank mine until after Vandy, but I have a pretty good idea of where everything stands now. It's kind of what I thought at the top, but still some surprises from what I thought before I went to the schools. Seems like most people like Vandy and Pitt.

why such hate for nymc? Just curious...i know a current 3rd yr there that literally hates it so much and told me dont bother with the school. It was the only school he got accepted into..so i already wasnt too high on it...
 
well i'll give you some non-subjective details

1. 4/5th in NIH research funding overall amongst medical school (top 10 us news rank as of now - if that matters)
2. biggest health system in the country. 19 hospitals in the western pennsylvania region. 3-4 abroad owned by upmc
3. 10% profit margin for a non-profit is ridiculous
4. one of the biggest, if not the the biggest, simulation center. they even have child birth simulators and emergency scenarios and are expanding to surgical models
5. good city/cheap to live in
6. the teaching professors are paid/reimbursed on how well they teach. so if they are good mentors, they get more lab space.
7. scholarly program with all the freedom
8. pstp/cstp/mstp programs with full funding
9. diverse
10. good sports
11. growing city

cons
1. hills (i liked it)
2. carnegie mellon students can be weird
3. nothing much around the city (unlike philly)

hey, nymc was the only school that a friend of mine got in to as well. hmph. however, they haven't been there too long (M1), so I don't know what their review of the place is, yet

🙁 I promise, come May 15th, I'll have decided on one school (plus maybe a few more if I'm still on waitlists). Well, that is, if anyone accepts me.

Yeah, it's pretty boring. My next flight is less than an hour though. Woo. And my student host is picking me up so that's nice. No worrying about public transportation. 🙂

At the info session, they tout the fact that some huge percentage of their students only got into one school (NYMC), as if that is something to be proud of?

I can't believe it is the first choice school for hardly anybody, but in a pinch, it would do.
 
just got home from the gym... for the second time today. Ouch
 
If I need to bring a 'passport sized photo' to my interview is it okay to use one where I am wearing a plain black t-shirt (although it is mostly my face) and I cropped someone out? I think it looks fine as it is a clear shot of my face but will others bring in professional pictures of themselves in suits? If anyone wants to see it to judge first, let me know.

Because I am lazy and if I already have one I could use then I'd rather do that instead of getting dressed up just to take a photo 😎

I would take another one with a button-up. You've jumped through enough hoops, what's one more?

This is why I dressed up and took a semi-professional picture and got 16 copies (1 for every school just in case) and electronic access. :laugh:

First I took a Walgreens passport photo and it was HORRIBLE. I looked like I had eczema and was ~200 lbs.
 
i just got a packaged set of exam krackers books and the whole set of 1001 q's for the curriculum that i teach. im thinking of selling it. anyone nostalgic enough to take them?

i was wearing a t shirt in my pic and didn't even smile. not it wasnt a bad looking pic, but it was literally my passport pic which had certain requirements

I can't celebrate yet bc all my friends are in law and med school! lol, I have to wait till the weekend but, don't you worry, I will get ****faced. This I can assure you, friend.

I took the easy way out and applied EDP to my state school. there was no other school I wanted to go to that was worth spending twice the tuition, ya know? so, I went all in and fortunately won the hand!

hehe, IdK you guys, it's SO relieving to be in. Now, I don't really know what to do. I mean, I have a fulltime job that I'll be doing till I start med school. I got in so early, so now I have 10 months til then lol. all my med student friends say "enjoy your last year of freedom!" but IDK I kind of want to start now. I like my job, but everyone I'm around here outside of work are in law or med school. I see them busting their asses while I have my very meaningful, fulltime job but it's also very easy haha. I feel I can do all my work in 2-3 hours/day but have to stay 8 hrs/day errrr. for me, when I have to work, I want to work. I don't like being at work all unproductive. If i'm going to be unproductive, i'd rather be relaxing at home and with friends...not watching the clock at work ehhh
 
you can bust your ass while working too. its a good feeling, but maybe you can save up and travel or make it rain like pacman one night out

I agree with dw, though. I would change the status back to pre-med, it's kinda misleading to others on the site if they think you are actually enrolled in med school, but whatever.

Wooohooo! Good luck. I had VCU today. It was very very impressive. I was surprised. Definitely a good school. My app goes under final review on Monday! :scared:

In other news. I'm defending my thesis tomorrow. If all goes well, I'll have my degree unofficially by the end of the week.
