Okay, Alot of these aren't actually cases of people wearing flags. I guess my point was, there are a lot of *****s.

Wow, my room is getting hotter earlier every single day. Usually it starts warming up around 4pm and lasts until about 7pm, but lately it's starting at 3pm and lasting until 8pm.

Now it's already hot and it's only 2:30pm. I can't wait to get out of this miserable place.

They is trying to cooks you.

i'm hoping you have a pretty sweet 1000th post planned out

Is Hurley Scroggins the most awesome name ever?

It's really amazing how many bands suck live. By this, I'm mainly referring to the singing, since you have to be pretty sucky to screw up the instruments live (the musician talent level even in simple bands is pretty high).

its all about packaging and presentation man

Why should that cause trouble?

You didn't attend high school? It's like wearing the opposing team's colors on homecoming day. Or killing a leprechaun on St. Patty's Day. It's starting **** for no good reason other than daring people to throw a punch. High school administrators need to stop stupid **** before it gets out of hand. Or we can just teach our needs not to be d*cks.

Why should that cause trouble?

Apparently there was starting to be some tension between some latino kids and the kids in the shirts, which was exactly their intent all along.

If it was just one kid with a flag shirt, OK, I can see the outrage.

But they clearly coordinated this just to stir the pot.

I think the administration did the kids a favor by sending them home. They were asking to get their faces rearranged.

Maybe they did do it to start stuff, but it's an American flag. It shouldn't piss off anyone living here IMO. It's like if I was in Mexico and someone wore a Mexican flag on the 4th of July. It'd be absolutely ridiculous for me to be upset by that.

Yeah, sure, it would be nice if people didn't get offended.

But they did. And the administration did what it thought was in the best interest of student safety. Totally sensible in my opinion.

I agree completely.

its like the URM debate. itd be nice if nobody cared what race their doctors are, but thats just not the case, so AA is used.

stoney, btw, i answered ur deferment question a page or two back.

like the urm thing, itd be nice if noone cared what others wear, but thats just not the case, and america isnt the homogenous country that mexico is, so this IS an issue.

Come hang out with me in the union? I'm bored.

I don't plan on going to campus for the next 6 days.
BTW, why are you at the union?

I'm just chilling at my gf's while she does homework. I come here every day from 3-7 when my room is 85 degrees.

I should go to a baseball game this weekend - we're playing Vandy.

hope ur team isnt butt sore from the beating uf gave u last week :meanie:

I would take the acceptance and attend.

If it comes to needing a deferment after you get off the waitlist - I say worry about it then. For now, try to get off that wait list. If you need to defer, ask them if you can (I don't know if most schools allow deferment after you get off the wait list though; since the point is to fill their open slots).

If you do have to turn them down and can't defer - make sure you send them a letter explaining your situation. When you re apply next year to the same school - bring up the point you made about why you had to turn it down off the waitlist. I'm sure they'll be understanding about it. If not; there wasn't much you could do about it anyway 🙂

(sorry I'm a very c'est la vie kinda person...)

Accept the spot first, once you've become an acceptee, there is no difference between whether you're accepted from a waitlist or not. Then as for deferment. Deferments are hard to get, so you have to have a really, really good reason for it. And yes, in general, declining an acceptance will hurt you the next time you apply. You'll have a lot of explaining to do. Hope that helped 😀

Thanks guys for giving your thoughts on this!

It would be very very very unlikely that I would be in this situation, but it is still a possibility. The opportunity would mean that I would earn a HUGE scholarship for medical school, and I would get the chance to fulfill a year of meaningful service. It would also be a pretty unique opportunity should I get it. But, like I said, it's very unlikely that I'll even be in the situation where I would have to choose like that.

Also, I am curious because I do know that one school that I'm waitlisted at has said they don't grant deferments to those students accepted off the waitlist. So should it happen that I actually do get into this school (and maybe only this school) and I also get this particular opportunity, then it would be a very sticky situation.

if you have a really good reason to decline an acceptance, then i dont think itll really hurt you the next time you apply. but do keep in mind the lost earning potential and the money you have to pay for applying again. id suggest that you perhaps dont take the scholarship into consideration too much, but do it if you really love it.

No, the team just sucks right now. We will use this weekend series to recover.

Plus, when was the last time UF did anything in baseball anyway? So irrelevant. Who is the defending national champions? 😛

hey now, we were the runner ups in 06 or something :>

Well, you get the scholarship at the end of the year.

i definitely agree with dingy that you have to think about the lost income when thinking about the scholarship. even if you have to pay 100k or something more for school, you'll gain one year of doctor's salary later on that'll make up for it.

in other news, i had another exciting dr's appt today with one of my kids: the 7yo had a splinter stuck in his foot and screamed bloody murder when the doctor looked at it/took it out. i've seriosuly never heard anyone yell that loud in my life! he kept telling her "it's just a period, not a splinter!!" lol (i think he was trying to think of the word for freckle?) it took 4 people to hold him down so it could be taken out! it was quite traumatic, but he's all better now🙂

Damn, that kid needs to be tougher. In my neighborhood, we never saw a doctor for a splinter. Or a nail. We just rubbed some dirt on it and went back to playing football and beating the crap out of each other.

That's the second person today I've heard say "rub some dirt on it."

Weird.

But it would also be a pretty unique life experience, and something that I would love to do and that would be an honor to do. But no use worrying about it now. I will cross that bridge if/when I have to.
