Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
2, both tomorrow.

Neuro at 12:30
Poli at 3:00

Neuro I need a 79 to keep an A. Poli I'm taking P/F, so I can make a 25 and still pass. I think I can manage that.

So after tomorrow, I'm a free man... for a couple of months and then I'll be a med school slave.

Man, I gained so much muscle after I graduated in Dec. I guess that's what happens when you're bored as hell and you have a gym membership.

👍

today I randomly decided to read the University of Arizona application thread and saw this impressive waitlist chart

😱

I'm so glad that my final is at 12:30. I can stay up until 5ish, wake up at 11ish and end up at school with enough time to review right before the test. And I almost get a good amount of sleep.

 at the AMCAS question "I'm nervous about being bombarded with automatic secondaries when I hit submit on June 1st" when quoting my response that they come out in late June.

😆 and :bang:

I feel like I should start particpating in that thread.

One day I might create an "adcom" alter and answer *only* common sense questions. I will be worshiped by pre-meds for years to come.

Sounds like a good idea. Make sure you're really sarcastic and flippant, so they'll get the point and not ask common sense questions anymore.

Not that the aforementioned question was necessarily a common sense one, just a premature freakout question.

 that's ridiculous

i wonder how many SDNers will submit on the first day this year

All the ones that aren't waiting for their MCAT scores.

At least they're smart in that aspect.

I should repeatedly start posting that if you have to ask _____ obvious/common sense question, you're going to make a horrible doctor. /thread

This has probably been posted at some point in time here, but I'm posting it anyway.

Holy crap my feet hurt from playing basketball.

I am now going to study for an hour and then sleep. Hopefully I can get some good study time in tomorrow before the test. Last time doing this for a couple months, I should make it worthwhile.

really super sad video of that turtle struggling to breath in the oil infused water.

the news said that over 100 turtles have washed up on shore.

i effing hate you BP. :boom:

hahaha; i remember those days. Good times

eh I don't hate BP as much as a company. I'm just annoyed they have no contingency plans for stuff like this. They have really stupid engineers...

gettin so close to may 15

Yea got 1 more school to withdraw from. But it feels soooooo odd to cut off all your other options... u know?

:scared:

So I lied, I'm back. I know more of this stuff than I thought. Hopefully the topics of the questions on the final reflect that. It sucks when you learn 15 slideshows and a whole bunch of that stuff is left off entirely, but certain things that you never thought were that important make up 5 questions.

i know!...and then nothing's gonna happen because it's a saturday haha

heh yea that's the best part.

That means either Monday or Tuesday there's going to be a flurry of wait list movement 👍

:xf: for those of you who are still hoping

i definitely can relate to that. it's weird to go from so many possibilities to actually having to make a decision. it makes the fact that we're actually going to med school seem more real!

don't hate the player (bp) hate the game. why don't we have more stringent regulations and more oversight?

yea I had two dreams last night:

1. I withdrew from all my schools, and then Penn called me up and said "hey jk! We didn't actually accept you. Later loser!"

and then:

2. Walking around penn campus with a 2 ton backpack, studying in a dingy library but then partying all night.

Odd juxtaposition no? I love how random dreams can be

I'm glad I looked at May 15th a while ago and saw that it was on a Saturday. I can actually relax that weekend. Then I will be crazy busy the whole next week, which is a good thing.

Well, just because there isn't oversight doesn't mean you shouldn't do the right thing anyway. I agree it's corporate world and that's how they roll - if they don't NEED to be moral, they won't (I work in corporate)... but it's not an excuse.

Some blame does rest on BP; but I agree that quite a bit of the blame rests on the lack of regulations (there's very few regulations and oversight for offshore drilling - especially compared to on-shore).

yeah but what incentive does a corporation have to "do the right thing?"

it's all about the bottom line. they're acting in their best interests. crappy engineers=lower safety=lower costs=more profit

Good morning peeps!

I sincerely hope that the graph posted above is a harbinger of events to come this next week. Waitlist movement for all.

That's the problem with a big(ger) corporation - less personal interactions = need incentive to do the right thing (whereas in a microscopic sense, you shouldn't need incentive to do the right thing; other than the fact that it's the right thing). But then again, w/o big corporations, you can't have the kind economy / advances we have today. It's really a double edged sword (and working in pharmaceutical companies, I know exactly how that feels 😆).

It's sad that the only real solution is to force laws / oversight onto them. I'm ok with that; but clearly we aren't there yet. That's one of the issues I had w/ obama supporting the offshore drilling program. I don't have a problem with the drilling; I have a problem with giving them a free pass to do it in whichever manner they want. I wonder if this whole blow up w/ BP was divine providence telling american law makers "Are you on crack!?"

there's a graph?!! Where?!?! (I love graphs; it's an engineer thing )

yeah i seriously hope that obama has a change of heart on that policy after this disaster.

AHnald did. he was planning on opening up california's coast for drilling until this happened, and then he was like "oh, now i get it. this is why we've never opened up ca for off-shore drilling."

the amount of natural tar that washes up in Santa Barbara is disgusting. you can't walk along the beach w/o getting your feet all tarred up. imagine if we started drilling. poor marine life and it would scare away all the dolphins.
