Class of 2015... How ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Vacation glorious vacation. Almost two weeks to ... well, work on house projects, take care of the kids, study for boards, etc. But still.

Then I have neurology. And then I have public health, which is a half rotation, so it has a built-in one week vacation. Woooooooooo.

First day on ortho yesterday was only slightly crazy... I picked up a transfer that had surgery yesterday from a friend. The referral I chose has some issues and may need several procedures done when it goes to surgery on Friday. Then the referral that was just handed to me (which shouldn't have been mine...) is having surgery today. So now I have three inpatients while one of my groupmates has none and two have one each.

Edit: Most of my lamenesses on equine were RH, and all of my cases so far on ortho are RH so I'd really appreciate a forelimb one of these days...

I actually got to sleep in this morning because I didn't have any patients, so I just had to work 3-11 tonight and I was more or less done with all of tomorrow to recuperate before Anesthesiology started on Monday. But I knew the last weekend wouldn't let me off that easily; N just texted me that a mare and foal are coming in this afternoon. She and I have the worst luck.

The thing I love about ortho is... I think my owners have been the happiest people I have dealt with.

Too bad it's football season. Football and ortho makes for a sad scb44f... Those were my ex's two greatest loves. I actually started crying in the middle of surgery this week. Can't handle it.

Thanks, TRH. I perused Netflix last night until I finally watched something that made me happy so I could go to bed in a good mood. My patient is doing really well this morning, and my client is happy and told me I was doing a great job, so at least there's that.

Come back to equine. I miss your face.

I had this panicky moment this morning where I thought "No! NO! I'm not ready to come back from vacation tomorrow! Noooooooooo!"

And then I realized I have another week. Phew.

What's a vacation?

Wah wah wah. Don't even try that with me, kid. You knew what you were getting into. Besides, I see all your FB pics - you talk about having no time but you mysteriously have FB pics of you out drinking, you at the beach, etc. But not enough time to talk to your old pal LIS. I'm not fooled. 🙂

Hehehe....I love my job. I just make all of my not on call days count!!!

And I miss you old man. Let's chat.

:yeahright:

To be fair though, I'm done with surgery. Got to pull my first quill out of a dog yesterday evening which was neat. Now I'm on diagnostics which has regular hours, so I can sleep in and leave school when it's still light out. Practically vacation. I like clin path (and apparently remmeber all of it?) but not a big fan of gross. Fortunately we're not on the floor err'yday so I can manage.

Don't hate. You get vacation, don't you? Or are one of those crazies like some of my classmates who said "No! I'm not taking any vacation rotations because I just can't get enough of rotations!"
I do 🙂 had three weeks off after classes finished and have time off before Christmas and some in the middle of feb. But I'll probably end up at least doing some shadowing then as I tend to get antsy with nothing to do.

Umm...how on earth is the average person through almost 60% of zuku already?! I've been stuck on 7% for the last like 3 days and I just keep doing questions!

Once you get momentum going, it goes much faster. I got to the point where I was going through 7% per day on a slow rotation

is the whole average thing on zuku and vetprep for all subscribers? because that would make a lot more sense (i thought it was just my class, but that seemed rather impossible having talked to my classmates about vetprep since we all have subscriptions)

My vetprep is at like... 5%.

I keep feeling guilty but it's like they actually expect us to study radiology while we are on radiology...

And then I have vacation... so I'll have to like, force myself to study.

I'm at 23% on VetPrep, but that's only after forcing myself to do it for 2-3 hours every night for a week while on an externship rotation. Now I'm back at school doing Livestock Rotation and I'm not sure how much time I'll have in the near future to do more.

So far livestock is great, even though it seems like it's going to be long hours. I like the clinicians and two of the residents are awesome (one has yet to win me over). I got to cuddle a baby alpaca today while it got a plasma transfusion. It was so fluffy.

 I feel like it's a ploy to get us to study. I admit I freaked out after being at like 3% and am now up to over 20% but I can't imagine that many people have gotten so far so quickly...

Also, is anyone else applying to the match this year? I know @Coquette22 and I are...just curious 🙂

I'm applying for clin path residencies, but those aren't through the match. Programs are posting want ads now though and apps are due mid October for most schools which is crazy soon.

Anesthesia day two: Horse CT and a four hour quill removal with severe hypotension and a pneumothorax. I want to go back to the large animal barn now. This is going to be a long three weeks.

We have potentially two backdogs tonight. It was also ambassador night so I got fed and stole an extra plate for later on, so I can't complain too too much.

Edit: Two backdogs became no backdogs. At least I still have my leftovers 🙂

I love when surgery becomes not surgery 😀

Somehow survived the anesthesia for the thoractomy today. My adrenals are exhausted from producing so much adrenaline and cortisol during that time. Yikes, is all I can say, but he made it through and woke up just fine.

Are you guys all small animal? Can't believe I'll be in your shoes this time next year :uhno:

Looks like we can search programs starting on the 15th...eek.

Oct 15th, right? I wish it opened in September so I have more time to go through all the programs. I'm applying for SA med/surg rotating internships so I literally have 100+ options haha.

I went to "search programs" and it said we could access on sept 15. I thought oct 15th too, but I'll take a peek Monday and see if there's anything to be seen?

And holy moley...I've got like 30! are you trying to stay in Canada or also considering US programs?

And my self-imposed location rule whittles that down to a handful. I can't imagine sorting through 100+ programs.
I'll be whittling too, just in the opposite direction 😉 husband and I are planning a skype date on where I'll apply after all the programs are up...eek. I'm hoping a he'll tag along on some interviews (should I be so lucky) to help scope out places and decide!

You will have interviews coming out of your ears. Your grades are solid, you'll have fantastic letters of rec and you've got TONS of experience. Programs will be duelling to the death to get you.
