And even if someone is that dumb, the place I was at for the GRE had cameras above each station and a large window in which the proctor could see everything that was going on... there was no way you could cheat even if you had wanted.

And really, answers on your shoes/socks???? Because people can't write them on a wrist/arm/inside of glasses/etc.... If someone wants to cheat, they are going to find a way no matter the rules in place.

i dont think it was a navle rule per say, more like a testing facility rule (i mean honestly if i was gonna write on the bottom of my socks, i'd put inspirational quotes down there to help me make it through...)

they had the cameras and window here too, as well as a guy who desperately needed a shower to do walk throughs periodically

Yeah, I meant testing facility rules... I guess that does mean there are more than just people taking the NAVLE there... forgot about that.

I still don't get some of the rules, seems a bit extreme at times especially when the exams are multiple hours long and you just want to shift in your chair to be comfortable...

You should have asked for nose plugs so that the BO would stop bothering your test taking.... 😉

yeah. what a joke. What are you going to do.... write the answers to 1000s of questions on your socks?
can't even think of what I could think to write down to cheat on a test like the NAVLE or even the GRE>

i mean i get it, its probably a very dull job. however, you should still shower. because i do. you dont smell me, i dont smell you. ya know? same rule applies to public transportation, or public anything really

There should be some mandatory showering law... :laugh:

Same thing with amount of perfume/cologne someone can wear... I have actually had someone walk past me on a bus whose perfume out-competed the chain smoker smell of the guy sitting next to me... :barf:

I kind of know the feeling. Three essential rejections, silence from the other seven programs I applied to. It's not a good feeling at all :\ My fingers are crossed for you!

I really hope it works out for you all too! I know a girl from my school who applied for lab animal too, and I haven't heard her celebrating either so you're not alone. I've gotten 3 rejections and silence from the other 3. It's interesting how you guys in the match and me out of the match feel very similar...I don't know which process is better or worse. I had a mini-breakdown in my adviser's office this afternoon. I am not usually a cry-in-their-office type, but I guess the stress of waiting is getting to me. I am definitely going ahead and starting the match process, but hopefully I hear something positive before I have to submit all that. Yay for Thanksgiving so I have a free day to do a new personal statement.

Some program will be lucky to have us. The others just don't know what they are missing.

Programs are really good at seeming super exclusive until match day comes and they realize that they too did not match anyone because they were being too snooty. Lots of internships and residencies do that. Maybe it won't be your first choice or any that you initially considered but who cares as long as it works out for you. There was a lab animal program last year I transiently considered applying for (where the resident there told another extern not to even bother applying because they know who they're taking). Guess what program was sweating its balls scrambling to find a resident post-match day?

There were seven open spots last year post-match, so I'm hoping I can at least weasel my way in that route if nothing else. Thanks for the encouragement 🙂

Less than 24 hours till Boards. I'm slightly more calm. Slightly. Currently sitting at 70% on vet prep. Goal is to get to 80% by tonight and then just rely on prayers, Felix Felicis, and Starbucks to take me the rest of the way. I think the wait till January is going to be torture....
 
NAVLE on Wednesday. I finished VetPrep a few days ago. And I've reached that point where I don't actually know what to study. I definitely don't know everything, but I'm not sure what to do with the time I have left...

I wrote mine this past Friday and now I'm not sure what to do with my spare time anymore. Deleting my VetPrep bookmark felt great though!

it turns out that when you arent buried under a mountain of paperwork 10 miles high, you can actually learn things! started a neuro externship today and i got to ask so many questions and research tons of information! amazing

match app is due in 7 days and i still need a decent PS and 2 LORs to be submitted... :scared:

I know. I *love* those rotations where you actually can pay attention to medicine. I was dreading my ophtho rotation because ... well, because I feel like eyes are a foreign language that doesn't use the same syllables and vowels that I'm used to. But, their discharges are quick 'n to-the-point and intended to go home with the client: so you can't spend much time on them. The result? You get to focus on the case and talking with the clinician about it because you aren't spending forever writing 12321943-page internal medicine discharges. I learned a crap-ton on that rotation and loved it.

I'm on derm right now. On this rotation, our techs typically start the discharges and fill in information: recheck info, meds, side-effects, other instructions, test results...... generally, by the time I've gotten to the discharge it's all complete other than the doctory assessment portion. So I get to focus on the stuff that's important to teaching me medicine, and I get to spend more face-time with the clinician and less time typing at a computer. Love it. It's almost like they want me to learn or something.
 
It was gross. I didn't like it. No idea if I passed. No freaking clue. The good news is that I think I could pass it if I took it again. Definitely saw how I would study more/differently. Vet prep is representative of the topics that are on the test which was good. I think completing vet prep to 50% would have been sufficient and then taken the things that I kept seeing come up in vet prep and actually studying them would have been better then just obsessing over answering as many questions as possible. Just my $0.02. Carry on, everyone.

Ack :/ I'm writing Thursday and am now 50% through test mode in Zuku...wondering if I should keep going or just start re-reading notes. Just want this beast done.

Happier news is that I got two invites for phone/Skype interviews for residency programs yesterday. So there's that?
 
my externship so far has been amazing! i am learning so much, and i get to sit and read up on cases/topics and ask all the questions i can think of! this is so much better than most of my academic rotations where no one has time for anything, yet you're supposed to be able to do a million things at once

Also, got my final grade for our clinical conference "class" (paper + presentation) and did well. Case adviser really encouraging me to publish as a case report so I'm working on that now. Finally feel like I can take a breath, relax a little since starting fourth year and gear up for the holidays. Feeling pretty happy right about now 🙂

Community practice is done!! On anesthesiology now, which I think will be really fun once we're in the groove.

In other news, I still need to write my personal statement for the match. Oops. Bad procrastinator here. But I know I'm not the only one, and I can get it done this weekend. Not on call on Saturday, at least.

Post-NAVLE has been great though. I taught myself to knit and am working on a hat for my mom for Christmas. I have no idea what I'm doing for anyone else but this is making me feel accomplished in some way at least.

2 of my 3 LOR writters haven't submitted their forms yet...cue the panic! if someone doesn't end up submitting, then i dont get to match people, please dont freak students out like this!
 
Being told you were the second choice for a residency position you didn't get is nice feedback but still sucks. It appears a clin path residency won't be happening for me this year.

At least I saw this coming and have gotten stuff together to apply for small animal internships through the match in the last week (but it's hard to sell yourself in a personal statement when your sense of self-worth has been crushed by residency rejections). I still need 1 LOR submitted, so I know what you mean jmo.

Technically they have till January to still be accepted so don't worry yourself too much!!!

this is what clinics feels like (juggling patients in hospital, client communications, diagnostics, procedures, appointments, paperwork, evaluations, sleeping/eating/showering, learning, studying, navle, VIRMP, etc)

I'm sorry Jayna 🙁 Being second choice is definitely a big deal, but hard to be excited by it if you don't get the spot. When do you know for sure if you do/don't get one? Is there still hope?

5/6 I applied to have chosen someone else already. One school asked for my GRE scores two weeks ago but hasn't told me of a decision either way yet, but I guess this year's CP applicant pool was filled with people who had done rotating internships so my chances of getting one right out of school are not the best.

I have all my stuff for the match submitted (major relief!) so I'm focusing on that now. I'm applying for 20 programs so hopefully I'll match somewhere. I know it'll make me a better pathologist in the long run to have practice experience so I'm not too upset anymore.
 
Well, I never thought I'd be going through the match, but my how things have changed. My last recommendation was submitted today so it's officially done. I have applied to 4 programs, but am unsure what my rank list will be, aside from my first choice.

Sorry to hear you haven't heard the best news, Jayna, but keep up the positive attitude. Things will work out!
