Yah I just withdrew from every school i was accepted at except UC davis. Im on the WaitList at UCLA and it should start moving this week so im hoping. If i get in off the WaitList at UCLA im for sure going to westwood. If not then ill just trek it up to sacramento.

I hope you get off the waitlist cuz I know you don't want to move the fam. I completely understand b/c I am in the exact same boat and desperate to stay in socal. There are much farther and worst places to go than Davis though. I would be happy there.

yah its not so bad. I mean UCLA is my only chance to not move the fam. Knew it was insane to hope for only one school but now that it might happen, it just making me insane waiting. My wifes college is actually right next to UCLA, everything works so perfect if i can go there. im near 100% sure i dominated that interview but alas as you guys will find out, the interview process is kinda meh🙄

I assume you want to stay at UCSD or maybe UCI?

Yeah UCSD is #1 but due to serious lack of MCAT study time my score is kinda low (for them not most everywhere else = 31Q 10/10/11). UCSD's average stats are pretty high. I've accepted I'll probably have to go somewhere else. I'm hoping UCI, UCLA, or USC comes through for me. It would make my life a lot easier for myself and my son if I can stay near family. Plus my gf won't be able to pick up and leave too easy if I have to go far (long story). In the end I will go wherever I have to go to live the dream 🙂
 
do interviewers take that into account? if you live with your family?

Have you been telling them about the fam situation? Is your wife gonna be a doctor too?

And I wondered how you all felt about the interviews. I have mixed opinions/advice on the interviews....people say is matters ohhh so much, and then I read things like you just wrote. This process is just odd.

There are a TON of clubs lined up downtown, but the one my sisters friends are planning to go to is closer to UCF. Then one of her friends are having a house warming party, then another party with some other people.

dont worry too much about the score trust me. I had worse 29Q (10/10/9) and it wasnt an issue for me when it came to this whole process. My score kept me out of the top of the top (wahsu, harvard, hopkins, etc) but i was still able to get multiple acceptances and hell at least a chance at UCLA. If i remember right there are a lot of similarities between our apps im sure youll be fine. But yah preparing myself to move was hard and still is even though at most im moving like 6 hours away.

shes not going to be a doc. My son was born when we were both so young she worked full time while i went to school. Now that ive attained what i wanted, and in some ways a stable future for our family, she wants her turn at school since she had to give it up so i could be a doc in some ways.

As far as interviews im not saying they dont matter as they do, but once again its to varying degrees depending on the school. Also just because you thought you did well means nothign, it could mean they wanted to make you feel all buddy buddy and you fell into every trap they set as they made you too comfortable and you let your guard down. They matter but also your interviewer may think you are the greatest thing of all time, unless the other people on the committee feel the same it wont matter. For example, ive talked to a UCI adcom who says hes just absolutely fallen in love with someone hes interviewed, he glows about them upon presentation but the other people in the room feel hes only average, result? you are WL even though you probably did dominate the interview. Its all a crapshoot because you are in the dark, and you will be in the dark until you are on an adcomm in whcih case its too late😛. Id say just relax and hope for the best it worked for me (though apparently not at UCLA enough lol).

some do and some wont. They dont take into account too much oh i want to stay in X state/town because i have my mom and dad here. Honestly boo hoo no one cares (barring extreme situations). But if you say oh my i have a wife and kid and want to stay where we are rooted. Well that can pull some extra weight. How much does it matter? Its very school dependent ive found. Some will care others will say tough luck.

where around ucf? i don't recall any clubs in that area.

it does suck though, but its the nature of the competitiveness, even though i feel like these type of things matter alot, and have significant influence on a future physician's decisions, which is something the adcom should take into consideration

yeah there are some similarities... I kinda made a point to pay attention to how you did for that reason. You did awesome which gives me some hope. I can imagine it must be difficult to pick up and move. Things get so complicated when you have your wife and kid to think about. My plan is to deal with things when they come, no reason to stress out before I'm lucky enough to have decisions about where I want to go. Staying in CA would be a big relief for me, and 6 hours isn't too bad compared to being on the east coast for example.
 
Off for three days....but commuting 45 miles each way to take my summer courses at a bonafide (read low tier state school) university versus at the local community college here in town. So lame. I should just take them at the CC. Honestly, I dont think its that big of deal. Especially since I am a full time employee who lives in a town without a university. You'd think adcoms would understand that.


Its kinda exciting (refreshing?) to see some of the movement happening in the school specific forums. happy pre meds are always a good thing.

I dunno if anyone else has experienced this feeling... but it's pretty awesome when you've acquired a set of skills and reputation such that people are willing to seek you out and pay you to do stuff for them. I certainly hope the corporate consulting headhunters like me in 5-9 years. 😉


BTW, I officially have my sights set at HSM's HST program... I like NP, as well, but I think it's more likely that I could get into HST. But also not getting too hopeful, since I know it's super selective and I don't have as much research XP as I think I would need.

Lets just say her announcement was a major surprise to most and one hell of a pick up for the Terriers. 👍

Ya, women's hockey. The women's team is on the up and up. They also have two high profile transfers coming in this season so hopefully they can figure out how to finish games off. Hockey East should be intresting. As long as UNH and BC are losing, Im all good. 👍

I actually dont mind the Eagles. I just hate Katie King, the coach. Im also pretty peeved about the scandal with the then freshman txting (err sexting) the old coach naked pics of herself. The coach was let go, or he stepped down pre investigation and the girl got to stay. The replacement coach, Katie King, took a final four competitor and turned them into a not even making hockey east tournament competitor. lots of wasted talent. grr.


My hate for UNH is similar. They always have a great team that pwns during regular season....and then they miserably disappoint during the NCAAs. The coach is good, but also a douche.....throws water bottles and pulls his hair and stuff. And nothing is worse than the Litter Box (UNHs official fan club). I hate UNH fans. sore losers.

Yo IV, I finally got some henna done on my hand today! It was expensive, but I really wanted it and it looks super cool, and it's going to be there for graduation so I hope my mother doesn't flip a ****, which she will, but woops oh well. The end.

AACOMAS loves kinesiology/phys ed/exercise science etc for science gpa. they counted a couple things as sGPA that I didn't. AACOMAS, ftw. you guys can have your prestigious MD while suffering through botany to get there.
