Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Your week is exactly why I never considered ENG

I didn't know my life would suck quite this much until it actually happened... I thought people were exaggerating. I think I should have done biochem. My life would be awesome if I had. I love engineering, but since I'm not going to use it, I don't think it's been quite worth the damaged social life.

Well at least if for whatever reason you have to take year off in between school you'll have a nice back up and make a nice little pile of loot.

Pchem homework for me consisted of using the solutions manual as a "guide." 😏 Also, all of the engineering students, mostly BME, I know are zombies.

I have been so out of it this semester. It's the 4th week of classes and I don't even have my schedule memorized. I seriously have to look the night before and make sure I'm not forgetting to do stuff.

My schedule, or lack there of, thus far into graduated life as lead me down a road of going to bed at 5 and waking up at 1... it sucks. That all changes this week thankfully.

Kinda hard to get a job without having had an internship... which I can't do while getting my pre-req's done, isn't that a great twist? I hear some companies do like the high-GPA folk or something, I hope =)

Haha, yeah same here... this semester, the prof makes up his own hw problems tho! But they're not actually all that hard, so far! 😀

Oh man, there was a shooting right near UCF today...right next to my sister's apartment 😱

How hard is PChem actually? Everyone moans about it like it's the hardest class out there. Just curious.

I think it's like Ochem: it's not hard, just different. I'm not going to lie. Pchem 1, I totally kicked a$s and I actually enjoyed it. Thermo was my b!tch. I did work pretty hard and put in the effort to learn all of the derivations, making it much easier for me to manipulate equations on the test. I think class average for exams were ~55.

I had almost no idea what was going on in Pchem 2, but still scored well on tests.

Yay! I got an A on my microbio exam 😀

i really think in the sciences because there are so many subsubject classes (in bio and chem, esp...im guessing eng too but i chose not to go that route) people have innate strengths.

I really didn't mind ochem, whereas everyone else in my school hated it. likewise, i was part of only a handful of people who liked genetics(i actually 😍 genetics), and then when i took a physiology course it seemed so much harder for me than the people who hated genetics. it's def partially the work you put into it, but i agree with your last sentence that sometimes i will think i have no idea what's going on in a class but i just...get it...more than others. and then in different classes the opposite is true.

nobody understands pchem 2... the key to do doing well imo is accepting as soon as possible that you will not understand things like duality

Chemistry is a far more intuitive subject than Biology, in that you actually need to be passionate about the subject, and have a desire to think through problems, etc. Biology is the exact opposite. Some of the upper level bio classes that we all bitch about on here are honestly not that hard if you think about it. You could take a hardworking 6th grader, have them sit down at a desk, and reread the lecture notes several times, and they'd ace the test.

With that being said, lets just say there's a reason I'm a bio major...

edit: floaton, sdn doesn't censor 'bitch' so go ahead and say it all you want lol

Lol, what!? Ass definitely caught on in my vocab much earlier than bitch. SDN is strange stuff.

Edit: Oh snap. I thought ass was censored too for some petty reason. Well, I definitely know **** is, and that's the word I use the most...

I think it depends what type of biology you are talking about. At my school we have 6 different biology majors! Ecology is by far the easiest and I think molecular biology or biochemistry is the toughest.

With that being said, I think chemistry and physics in general are tougher than biology. However, as a biology major I've had my fair share of those subjects as well. Also, "difficulty" is relative. I like biology so therefore I find it "easier."

Biology is definitely a lot of memorization!

This sounds like the difference between liking to think and liking to blindly memorize. The two rarely go together.

genetics ftw 👍👍

I think basically it's safe to say that biology requires more hours to study/memorize, but as a whole is a relatively "easier" to digest subject. People who totally 'get' chemistry and physics often don't have to study all that much since they're able to find connections and often reason through problems. I know people who never studied for any orgo tests, but aced them all because they knew how nucleophiles and electrophiles reacted in almost every situation. They never had to memorize mechanisms - they just reasoned it out for every reaction, it's incredible.

Just to get this thread off the second page. . .

I just bought a book called "Medical School Essays that Made a Difference" by the Princeton Review. Its got a lot of good info in it and has 42 real personal statements. I like that it also gives the stats of the PS writers and which schools they applied at. I'm hoping to get my PS started next month while I have a week off school.

I also got 3 of my LOR (2 Sci & 1 non-sci) on file at interfolio. Soon I hope to have all 5 letters I requested. With 4 months until we can submit our apps in June I'm happy to have so much coming together.

that is the only good PS book in existance i swear. Essays are made by normal people (unlike other books where everyone got into harvard and UCSF). Glad to see everything is coming together for you! You dont know it yet, but looking back im so glad its all done. Application season was really nerve wracking and sucky for me haha😛

I feel so behind, the only thing i started was making my school list...
but then again im comparing myself to u sdners, im sure the general pop is even behind me. ahhh yes self enhancement theory i love u <3

Barron's book is also pretty good.

hey i just "finished" that today! we are so not behind.

yo this goes out to all yall mothers, if we meet at an interview i'm going to deny that i'm on SDN...and then i will smirk because i always smirk when i lie about stupid things like that...but seriously. i will lol if we all meet each other.

hopefully we'll have this problem of running into each other at interviews... if that's the case i'm going to keep my eyes open for a silly smirking girl.

Don't most girls smirk when you ask them something humorous like that? 😕

Actually, I'll flat out give someone a hug if they approach me at an interview and STRAIGHT UP, to my face, ask me if I started the 2015 thread.

I've been reading some of the PS and it has given me a few idea already. I could have tried to apply last cycle but thought it would just be too hectic trying to get everything ready. Now it shouldn't be too hectic but I will have a long time to wait which will be just as bad. I wish I was sitting on an acceptance already like you. It must feel awesome.

I remake my school list every time a mentally check out of class. I've been doing that a lot lately during molecular biology class. I have like 20 lists in the margins of my notebook.

Barron's book is also pretty good.

I looked at that one today too. I wasn't too sure which one to get, but the PR book also showed the writers stats and where they got in. Ultimately I picked the PR book because the format seemed to appeal to me more, but that is totally subjective.

if i wasn't actually on SDN and someone asked me if i had an account at an interview, i would be really stressed out and be like WTF no???? that's for losersssssssssss

actually, come to think of it, that's how i will react now, to avoid smirking.

Why be so stressed about running into a fellow SDNer? If anything, a lot of people on here seem like people I'd be friends with, had I met them in real life. I could see it being a good icebreaker. Nothing to be ashamed of, we're all pretty much alike - even the most outgoing medical school applicant is still a little bit of a nerd at heart lol

no no, stressed about the interview. (which, interestingly, is my fav part of the process...seriously i love interviews. but for determining my future? little stressful)

I wouldnt care admitting "yeaaa im mb333999 on sdn biaatch" its not that big a deal. but i dunno how well i wud fit in with most sdners.. some think im too layed back and slack too much. thats why i dont like to many of the pre-meds at my school... especially the ones that live at the library and have little library inside jokes like holy crap i honestly would love to back hand them...twice. but some of you guys seem pretty kool and i do hope to meet some of u at some point. we can make a funny "anxious pre-med" video lolz. i always thought that wud be funny...

I hope we all meet up at some point on the trail. (what...who is this jgauger kid, he never even posts anything)...I creep this forum daily but never take the time to post. Hello again everyone.

👍 Very very true, even if some people can't admit it.

I'm glad you decided to post. There are only 8-10 people from our class that post regularly, so I was wondering where the other 16,000+ views came from. Damn that is kind of creepy when you think about it.

You're right, just look at the bottom, it's always something like this. This is it right now:

Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 5 (2 members and 3 guests)

I never noticed it showed you who was actively viewing the thread before, that's cool. I think it will start picking up in May and then it will be on fire in September when we're getting our acceptances and other people are scrambling to get info at the last minute for their late apps.

i mean....i'm a total nerd...buttttttttt at the same time i'm just like you, mbnumbers, i am so not all about being my school's stereotype of a premed. i am biggest slacker in the dept, depending on who you ask. hence, i hate talking about premed stuff irl.

vercetti, mbnumbers killed a couple people via SDN and the mods found out. due to good behavior he got out on probation.

after i get accepted ill be like HEY I"M CURBYE but til then i kind of don't want admins thinking i'm a dbag from reading my posts (i know, i know, 'but curbye, you are so cool!', sometimes real adults don't agree with that, and i am very identifiable by my ECs and details about my app)

also, i'm paranoid. seriously, the gov conspiracies...allll about them.

anyway after we all get in and we're going to our 10th interview we should go out the night before and laugh outside of an internet forum. mos def.

ps i am so into cabin fever right now. the snow can stop now. i'm over it. come on, global warming!! show me some sun

I'm a total gunner. If I find out you're an SDNer on the trail, I will probably "cap yo ass." You have been warned.

/kidding/

In PChem lab-lecture atm. Not really all that interested in it. I'm going to pretend like my typing is related to the lecture by looking up at the board every once in a while, which I'm doing right now; this is very stream-of-consciousness.

Aww thanks... but don't be. I have a good GPA (provided I don't tank it this semester) and MCAT, but I would consider my EC's below-average, especially compared to "SDN standards" and no real beautiful experiences for the PS. =X.

i will give you some beautiful experiences for a few decimal pnts on my gpa.

bahaha thats what she said.

I feel like the MCAT will make up for it, as long as your ECs aren't awful. And SDN standards are ridiculous.

Maybe we could each share some experiences, and I could get a couple points on my MCAT? Applying to medical school should be a group effort, really.

ROooooad trrrip once we get in.
take out the 150K in loans each
go to vegas
walk over to roullette table
150K on red
SPIN!

bahahaha jk...
but seriously road trips r fun.

and since were talking apps... if u guys could choose a city to live in during med school which would it be??
For me NYC would be awesome so im pretty sure ill be applying all over new york. and i heard jefferson is in the middle of downtown philli so thats kool too. I think city life in general is what i want. what about u guys????

Edit: kirby got it all wrong, i didnt kill anyone... I was just trying to take over the world =( Pinky & the brain style

narf!

philly, ny, boston, miami...ny doesn't need to be the city, though. i like suburbs too 🙂

yea i dont mind living in suburbs either as long as I can take a reasonable trip to the city if i wanted to.
