Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Interesting. Not many people mention this specialty....but I love Dr. G. and I wouldn't mind doing autopsy's. I'm most interested in MD/JD and pretty sure I will end up doing IM/CC or Anes/CC. Pulmonology is also high up there. 👍

I have a friend who's applying to law school now but is thinking about an MD/JD. What's cool about the professor who got in to viewing the autopsy is actually good friends with Dr. G

(BTW - Yay for making it to 1,000!)

sup yo!!!!! i took a hiatus from sdn for the past month so you guys (well, not all of you....some of you😉 ) wouldn't psych me out for my mcat....that i took today!!!!!!!

good luck dude. I know when i finished my mcat this time last year i was soo happy!!! 🙂

I don't know about you guys but I'm pretty excited about med school. All I'm gonna do is study, take the practice tests, MCAT in June, apply and leave the rest to GOD. I mean what can you do once you apply. CLASS OF 2015 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🙂

Good luck to all of you guys taking the exam tomorrow, and hopefully you'll have good results for today's test takers (friday)

You guys ready to take the MCAT, I see. You guys will rock, I'm sure.

Snow storm's a comin! I expect many MCAT exams to be canceled tomorrow in the areas that are hit. I personally would be pissed if my exam were canceled after all of that preparation.

I couldn't even imagine that. I'm sure some people would be relieved, but after all that prep time I'd just want to get it over with.

It's pretty bad where I am right now, at least for an area that really doesn't get much snow.

the bigger question is who WATCHED it drop down to the bottom. shame on you (and me)

Wow, I just wasted an entire weekend. I barely studied for my microbio exam for Tuesday, almost forgot to do ecology homework, didn't work on my personal statement or research poster, and didn't study for the mcat...I was playing video games and hanging out with my sister (hadn't seen her for a month)...oh well

Fixed that for you! 😀

I believe that would be everyone.

Tsk tsk. I try to do my part now and then but I can't always watch out for you kids.

"I should have gotten ____ done, but MY B, I didn't" moments happen to me every weekend. :d

How's it going, 2015ers? (is that the correct name for it?)

I had to fly to Chicago from the Bay Area for the MCAT on Saturday because I registered too late for anything in California. I guess I was able to hang out with my family for the weekend, but obviously that meant I didn't get anything else done.

I'm looking at a long night ahead of me, possibly an all nighter. Who's in the same boat?

Edit: For you Saturday test takers, was there something wrong with this MCAT? It seemed like a different beast than I'm used to...

Wowsers. Hope you did well. 👍

What does everyone think will be the roughest time of the application cycle for them?

I think the roughest part will be interview season for me. I'm from Canada so its going to be tough travelling to all these places while keeping up with school especially if it falls around exams and such. It's going to be tough balancing apps and school work I think.

Agreed. Looking back, flying all over America to interviews was the hardest and the most stressful part of this process. Of course, that is if you don't count waiting anxiously for post-interview news from schools.

I found/find the waiting to be worse. I only flew once in my life before this whole thing, and even though it got old pretty quickly, I really enjoyed going to different places and meeting different people.

I think the worst for me is waiting pre-interview and post-interview. I know I'll worry a lot that I'm not good enough, that I could have done something better, etc etc...but once an interview comes in, I'll feel like I must be doing something, for the most part, right. With the traveling, I never really traveled at all growing up, so I'm looking forward to seeing other places (but nervous no doubt). Then the post-interview I'll start feeling like I'm not good enough again, haha, what a cycle.

If money isnt a big deal, traveling would have been the most fun for me. I loved it!! It did suck balancing school work + interviews though. I ended up doing just average my last quarter (i think i got 2B+ and a B) so like a 3.1 but it didnt anyways.

post interview sucks the MOST by far i think. I was sick (and still am since im still waiting) of waiting for decisions. Post interview ones can take forever (i went 16+ weeks for some of my post interview ones) and even though I was complete in june and july at almost every school, there are still some that I havnt heard back from as of today (most notably usc ugh). And theres no way to know anything you just sit and wait. Hopefully you get accepted to your number 1 then it doesnt matter lol 😛.

After this semester, I need about 15 credits to graduate, so I'm going to take it real easy next year (still take a few upper level bio though, have to for degree) but I'll also need to get a job to pay for everything (not my tutoring jobs now, those are crap 🙁). I hate the fact that my parents make too much (not a lot, but over the limit) for me to get aid, since I'm dependent for insurance, but they don't really help me pay. I've worked to get scholarships and had jobs, but my school "states" that my parents give me $16,000 a semester or year, I can't remember, so I "don't" need any financial aid. :bullcrap: Whatever, complaining about it isn't going to magically give me all the money I'll ever need for school haha

I think post interview will be the best part because you dont do anything. its over, you let the ball go and now u just sit back and relax. I know most ppl might find it stressful to wait but I dont think it should be. you guys just finished a huge process, its time to congradulate yourselves on getting this far no matter what happens from here on end.

edit: but seriously I just want to be in med school already, f**k this pre-med ****

No man, not even close. You don't know how stressful it is, after you fly back home, and staring at your email inbox or mailbox all day long. Interviews mean nothing, until that acceptance letter, it doesn't mean jack.

You just have to go through it to know what I mean.

You feel great right after the interview, for maybe that night and the next couple of days. And then you're on pins and needles, trust me, I've been through that path 6 or 7 times. It is not the best part at all.

Best part is the part between acceptance and actually starting med school. You get the peace of mind of being in and the novelty of being a med student without putting up with any of the annoying/stressful stuff that goes with being a med student.

Agreed. I'm enjoying life like no other right now.😀

Traveling to interviews is the best part, IMO. I missed a ton of school, but it was fun to see different places I'd never been (and some I'll probably never see again).

I'm OK with waiting for post-interview news for weeks and weeks, but then a few days before I'm supposed to hear something the wait can be unbearable.

Waiting for your MCAT score is pretty bad too.

yea best part is the acceptance that makes you not care anymore. until then, you gotta hustle

definitely enjoy visiting schools. until an acceptance i definitely put in clockwork in the lab/office/volunteering and stuff to keep a safety net but now theres more down time

So I know I keep complaining about my workload this semester.. I keep getting things sprung on me that I didn't expect, for instance: I just found out that I'm expected to do the homeworks for the class I TA so that I'll have the answers and solutions for grading the homework. No joke. (these are 20+ hour homeworks, yeah freakin' right)

My options right now are not looking good. I may have to drop TAing, which is something I love otherwise, and I've already had to drop any shadowing leads I've had. Attractive options right now include waiting a whole extra year to apply to MD school, but I really don't want to do that because then my MCAT will be going on 3 years old and I'll have to figure out something to do with the extra year. Applying this year if I drop my EC's will leave me with sorely lacking EC's. So frustrated right now. We'll see what the next few weeks bring I guess.

Whaaa? Shouldn't the prof provide you with that stuff? Or the solution manual if there is one? If it takes that long to do hw, I'm gonna guess and say it's an engineering class. Am I right?

Yeah I feel like waiting for my MCAT score and then waiting to see if and where I get interviews will be the worst parts, besides studying for the MCAT.

Yea, at my school, all of the TAs and SIs have the solution manuals to refer back to.

Man, I'm mad, I don't have any hours for work. I like the extra time, but I needed the money for a cruise and mcat stuff. I think my bosses hate me for some reason, maybe because I'm not peppy and fake all the time like half the people at both of the tutoring spots.

It needs to be spring break already. Going on a cruise, study a tiny bit for MCAT, but just relax. When is everyones spring break? Mine is the first week of March.

That's the impression I had originally... Yep, computers in chemical engineering. All the problems are written by the professor. We'll see if this prof. provides answers/solutions--last year's prof, the usual teacher, didn't, apparently.

honestly, why dont u just do the work and apply this cycle. Maybe get someone to help you out? even PAY them to do some of the work. Contact those shadowing leads, u can spare a few hours here and there and just work your ASS off now so you dont have to waste a year.

just my .02
