Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i'm seriously looking at temple and drexel. (and jefferson as a dream). i LOVE center city.

South St. is a trip! haha Philly is great and they have all major sports. I would just have to be more open to Big East basketball, which I have nothing against but I'm an ACC man.

i still need an answer from someone - i've taken 3 practice tests so far, scoring 29-30 on all of them. Then today i took berkely review #2, and got a 24. wtf? lol

Don't sweat it. One of my friends said he finally broke the 25 mark about 2 weeks from his test date, then dropped down to a 21, but then still ended up making a 28. You'll be fine. Just keep crackin'.

you know what feels really good? the day before i took the real thing, i retook my fav aamc test (10, i know, everyone else hates it)...and got a 38 because i remembered so much. made me really confident for the next morning 🙂

You're retaking?

After recent practice tests if I can get more consistent on PS and actually learn some of the physics that was never taught to me I think I can hit around a 32 on a good day. :xf::xf::xf:

I hear ya on that! 38 on a practice, that's awesome.

I remember the first time I broke a 30 on a FL. I felt like a choir was coming out of the heavens to sing to me. 😀

And then the real thing happened, haha. Here's to :xf: for the next one.

Quick question: I'm having a really hard time with the diversity essay. Do you guys think it'd be okay to mention overcoming bad grades? Or would this be an immediate no-no? I had one HORRIBLE semester, but I redeemed myself slowly after that.

Are you talking about your Personal Statement? I had one bad semester too, I didn't mention it specifically but I worked it into my epic journey.

what??? we're talking about real things now?

i feel like we should introduce ourselves..........?

um and the 38 was a practice test i had taken before...so it didn't technically count much more than a self esteem booster

lol everyone had 1 bad semester, it's okay
Wow, that semester really sucked in retrospect

GlamDoc chimed in about something called a "Diversity Essay" so I was just trying to respond to that. If we're gonna introduce ourselves I say we take it away from SDN and use facebook or AIM so we can keep our anonymity on the rest of SDN

No, I didn't mention it in my personal statement, an epic tale though it was. 😉

I'm talking about one of the optional essays... personal characteristics/diversity that will add to the school. I'm having the hardest time thinking about a topic. I had a good upward trend a few semesters into college (by no means great), and then I crashed, but I've had a surprising turnaround. By hard work of course. 😉

GAAAAH, these essays. And oh please, "optional". Yeah. right.

Ha you have no idea. It is the biggest reason I'm not applying to MD 🙁. Why can't MD schools be forgiving for being young and dumb?

A story about your grades doesn't sound like what they are looking for. For a Diversity essay I would talk about what makes you special outside of academics and maybe your own appreciation for diversity.

Yeah, you're right. I guess I'll just talk about my favorite non-medically related EC.

Just need some reassurance from time to time. 😀

i would be willing to bet i have one of the best worst semester young and dumb mistakes. first semester freshman 🙁

First semester sophomore, after I transferred though... so I was pretty much a freshmen again. Terrible combination with the classes I was signed up for (orgo, calc II...). It's cool though AMCAS, I'll take my Exercise Science courses and orgo retake gladly to AACOMAS and still rule the world.

my mistakes have nothing to do with the classes i took (minus one semester that i though i could take over the world) and more to do with the dumb choices i made. i kind of forgot sleep is necessary at times.

My mistakes just show up through the classes I was signed up for, most likely for the same dumb choices you made. Oh well. Live, learn, progress, proceed.

the way i see it, if jeff and temple don't want me, their loss
i'm gonna be one hell of a great doctor

If you guys weren't going into medicine what would it be?

if i still wanted to be a big shot, either PR/managerial business (think head of macys) or big pharm/med admin.

if i won the lotto or didn't care about being unemployed...artsy stuff.

tough question... hmm
in all seriousness, if i wasn't interested in medicine, i'd probably go into finance or business something. I just think it's too risky a field to enter into these days though.

but if that didn't work out,
i'd probably open a 7/11. we could own it together, split profits.
Curbye could do the PR work, and be eyecandy

Brilliant. That sounds like my back up, back up, back up plan.

Professor (PhD), Engineering/Consulting, or Lawyer/MBA/etc.

I think mine vanished long ago.

I'd either get back into college basketball coaching or PhD in Exercise Physiology. The professor lifestyle is tough to beat.

i've thought seriously about doing the ph.d route and researching/professoring...but i really don't want to go through qualifiers. i'd rather do the steps.

Yeah getting tenure is the academic version of residency.

I think it really depends on what you're teaching i.e. I'e begun to realize how busy my engineering professors are... not sure if it's a lifestyle I'd want.

From what I've seen from professor's is they can be as busy as they want and usually they go through cycles of super busy to super chill. I do understand what you're saying though. When one of my professor's applied for tenure last year he was going crazy.

Yeah that sounds about right. Plus I have no clue what PhD's really make... I think my dad only makes decent money because he also teaches online courses for other universities and has his military retirement pay.

Pay depends on your field. I'm betting Engineers are six figures. One of my professors told me he makes 8k per summer session... That's easy money. He said he can make around 70k a year if he teaches throughout. Makes his own schedule though and just works on research/community projects that he likes now that hes tenured.

PhDs make good money - if you teach/research/publish

or i'm pretty sure you can even teach certain courses at medical schools - like biochem, genetics, pharmacology stuff like that

Ugh...I think I caught something at school, feel like absolute crap right now. I've already skipped two classes this week, got a quiz tomorrow and an exam on Thursday (maybe another quiz too). I want to vomit.

Tomorrow is hump day. Just make it through your test then crash for the weekend.
