Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nah, got one more year to go. If it was my last semester, then it'd be smooth sailing haha, but nope...I hope it doesn't hurt too much
ah well still you can bomb a test (bomb to some people is a B lol not sure if thats what you meant.) I bombed several tests, im talking bottom 20% of the class on the curve and still ended up pulling an A or B. In fact now that I think about i bombed my 1st test of every class 😛. Normally i would f up the 1st test out of being lazy and then id be like o **** im going to fail and study hard for the next one and final.

One not so good test grade shouldn't be too hard to bounce back from. Don't stress just move on.

I'm not too stressed about it. I got an A on the first exam, so one exam is not going to kill me. I usually feel like I bomb them, and end up doing better than I thought, so who knows how it'll turn out.

Anyway, to those applying this summer, about 3 1/2 months left till season starts.

damn.... u r most certainly correct! im pretty excited not gonna lie!!!!

but right now i have to worry about my upcoming exams... not rdy at all, regretting skipping all my classes right about now 🙁 its okay tho i go into super sayan mode now!!! (dragonball Z reference dont worry about it)

O O O O i have an idea 🙂

lets post all the schools we all think we are going to apply to so far. Just to get an idea of who might end up where.

Your truly,

Jefferson
NYU
NYMC
Mount Sinai
Wayne state
BU
Kentucky
Case Western
George Washington
Rosalind Franklin
Northwestern
Conneticut

top choices: Mount sinai, nyu, jefferson ....i think

Don't remind me! I am both excited and nervous, but mostly nervous about the MCAT. I think I will do well if I can score an interview. :xf:

Here we go.

PCOM
TCMC
NYMC
Jefferson
Drexel
UMDNJ - NJMS
SUNY - Downstate
Temple
Penn State
University of Maryland
UMDNJ - Robert Wood
Stony Brook University
University of Pittsburgh
Columbia
Penn
NYU

There is a chance I will switch out some of these for a couple of these:
George Washington
Albany
University of Buffalo
Georgetown
University of Connecticut
SUNY - Upstate
Boston U
Einstein
Tufts
University of Rochester
MSSM
Cornell

But there won't be much changing on that list. I actually want to cut some more. Ideally, I only want to apply to 10 to 12 schools at most. Actually, if my husband gets the awesome job he just applied to, I will actually only apply to the schools in Philly, and probably throw my app to TCMC and Penn State. We'll see once I take the MCAT/get my score.

My first choice is Jeff, then any other school in Philly, including PCOM.

Washington U

Baylor
Duke
U of Pitts
UCSF
Emory
U of Penn
Brown
Vanderbilt
U of Colorado
Case Western
Ohio State
U of VA
U of Mass
Georgetown
U of Vermont
Nevada

I may try to analyze where everyone matches... actually, I'll do that. Haha.

So far, Georgetown is the most common with 2.5 applications out of 5 2015-ers. The schools that 2 people match are:
Northwestern
U of Pittsburgh
UCSF
NYU
Case Western
U of Virginia
Penn State
U of Kentucky
Jefferson
U of Vermont

Also, C/O2015Thread is so far applying to ~55 schools, depending on how you count geekchick's "1/2"'s (the maybe list)

If I apply to any of thoes schools, they will be replacing some of the ones on the first list, and I'll still be cutting more. Probably 12 schools for me, tops.

lol i love your analysis flow

I'm applying to:

Jefferson
Penn
Baylor
WashU
Chicago
Pittsburgh
Stanford
UCSF (it's a long shot but that would be ideal)
Emory
Harvard
Vanderbilt

I have a guaranteed acceptance somewhere (but that somewhere is an OOS public for me), so just a few select places that I like slightly better than where I am in.

Guess I won't be at Georgetown with all of you!

I'll keep it going through the application season, especially if we get some more people on here around then.

I feel like there are going to be a lot of spreadsheets in your future...

Wow bleargh for some reason i thought u were accepted with us lol. Anyways gl! Considering your list im assuming your stats are probably out of this world 😛

do u know of any cali schools that are friendly towards Canadians or even any internationals in general?? i visited family there once and man I would love to live there.
Youre best bet would be USC, loma linda, or stanford. None of the UC are very canadian/intl friendly. If you did want to apply to a UC UCLA and UCSF are the best bet (though not really since they are so hard to get into period).

UCSD
UC Irvine
UC Davis
USC
UCLA
UCSF
University of Illinois
Creighton
OHSU
UVM
Penn state
Wake Forest
MCW
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Loyola
WVU
VCU
Tulane
Georgetown
Einstein
Drexel

I think that list looks familiar, o wait its just like mine haha😛. Good luck dude I hope somewhere in cali shows you love! Though curious why WVU? Unless you have ties (meaning family or grew up there) its pretty tough for OOS people. Id also think twice about gtown and UIC. UIC is OOS friendly, but NO OOS should ever consider going there lol.

CA is a beautiful state, their shortage of medical schools aside. I checked and the only CA schools that accepted international students the last cycle were Stanford and Loma Linda. So I guess there is some slim hope if you feel like taking a chance.

Edit: Forgot to check USC, but Eliah05 already listed it.

???? por que?
their OOS tuition is 60k...Also tuition increases to even more M3 and M4 years (as it does at most schoos). They dont give out a lot of aid to OOS so you are looking at about 80k per year in loans typically. Not to mention as an OOS if you go here chances are its the only place you got in. 80,000x4 = 320K in debt (it will probably be higher too). Thats just insane unless you are going to be a practicing orthopod or dermatologist the debt will crush you. With interest after residency/fellowship you are looking at like 600k in loans. I couldnt justify that. I would rather reapply next year then take that. Just my personal opinion. Most OOS apply there because of the low stats and huge class size, but there are plenty of other low stat schools that are cheaper that could be added. If you apply widely enough, the chances that UIC would be the only school to take you as an OOS is very very small. I applied to wayyyyyyyy to many schools and schools like UIC that were just a waste of time. Its hard not to freak out about getting in but one year from now when you guys are all accepted youll see you worried over nothing.

Yah im not sure if the UCs take intl, if they did UCSF or UCLA would be the only ones. Looking at the MSAR also, the Ucs didnt give interviews to any intl at all. Not even one and a good 500 or so applied.

If I recall from when your MDapps was posted we have some overlap in our stories, so it's no wonder our list is similar. I hope to have similar luck to you next cycle. I have family that lives near WVU and b/c I am a single parent with sole custody of my son it would be nice to have family around. Also they took 44 people OOS.

I've gone back and forth about gtown. I know tons of people apply every year, but DC would be cool. I've considered replacing it with Iowa, temple, Jefferson, or Univ of Maryland.

I'm curious why UIC didn't impress you? Is it too rural or something? I've never been there btw, but they accept a ton of people from my school each cycle.

If you have any info on OHSU, that would be awesome. I have a lot of interest there. I think I remember you saying you interviewed there. Do you think they are CA OOS friendly (or only to people OOS w/ really high stats)?

I believe OHSU is OOS friendly, but requires biochem. That's about all I remember.

OK, now I understand. That is a good reason.

I referred to the old school selector spread sheet and it says that a couple of the UC's do accept international applications, but when you check how many were interviewed/accepted the number is ZERO. So there is apparently no rule that they don't take intl students, but they just don't seem to do it. Money is better spent elsewhere.

yah we do have similar backgrounds so its no wonder. I only commented on you schools since we do have similar things lol😛. As long as you have some sort of reason for WVU i wasnt saying its bad, just hoping you had a reason 🙂. Id take UIC off for sure but to each his own.

OHSU is friendly to OOS and really they are more friendly to people like you and me (people with interesting stories/non-trads with odd backgrouds.) If you have the im interesting factor and are a non-trad you have a good shot. I did get an interview invite here, but being that im accepted in cali i turned it down. OHSU from what ive seen (my PI did his residency there) its an amazing school. It was one of my top OOS choices and if i wasnt in at a UC school id have gone asap. They have some odd reqs though (they require genetics and biochem i think, as well as some stats). Being that you go to a UC school im sure you have taken all those probably (especially since i think you go to my alma matter?). My stats are what some would say are pathetically low and i got interview. They are certianly not high on stats and are notorious for being interested in people with odd backgrounds and non trads

I believe OHSU is OOS friendly, but requires biochem. That's about all I remember.

Thanks. Luckily I have taken biochem and a lot of other recommended class. I've been wondering if schools consider whether or not recommeded classes have been taken when evaluating an applicant. Personally I don't think schools give it much/any weight (just a feeling, I've never heard anything about it). Anyone have any thoughts on the value of taking "recommended" classes?

i wouldnt worry. Most schools recomend things like biochem and genetics and from what ive been told it just really helps for M1 as you arent thrown into the fire as much being that you have a background of say glycolysis>>krebs>>ETC etc etc...If you havtn taken them no worries. Nearly every med student ive talked to recomends at least taking biochem and some things like cell bio as they said it will really lessen the workload for M1 if you have some knowledge of it.

A little south of there, I'm finishing up at UCSD. However, I would be very happy to go to UCI in 2011.
