maybe you didn't notice the large smiley face and the "seriously though"? but i was just kidding around with that post.
To me, that came off as a great big s***-eating grin to say "I'm going to be an MD, you know, a REAL doctor, and you're not. Neener-neener."
honestly guys i'm not in med school yet, and i just didn't know what a DO was about! i never said it's inferior or anything like that, i'm just so shocked right now that all i had to say was "what is a DO" and everyone is attacking me 😕 anyway i'm not even disputing that DO's can be equal to MD's, but i've never (knowingly) met one in my life so what's all the fuss about..
Several of the things you said come off as thinking DO is inferior. To recap:
"indianv, what exactly differentiates a DO from an MD then? they aren't physicians in the traditional sense right? i'm thinking the pay-grade must be much lower for DO considering the more lax application requirements & high rate of acceptance.. "
"..the ****?? how is that possible??? i'm going to MEDICAL school, they DO NOT.. how can they be equal to us?"
"because if that was the case, why wouldn't EVERYONE just become a DO? you can just chill through undergrad without putting in much work (you can get in with a 25 MCAT - WTF?!?!) go to fake med school.. i mean, DO-school.. and be a doc with the same $$$ at the end.. if this was true, everyone & their momma's would've been doing it.. "
"alright, whatever you say mr. fake-doctor-that-couldn't-get-into-med-so-had-to-settle-for-DO
😀"
And then a little more "Neener-neener"...
"dont freaking tell me i'm not a "real" pre-med.. i put in my work in HS so i wouldn't be slaving in college.. i did my volunteering, my shadowing, my 25+ applications, my half-dozen program interviews..
all cause your dumb ass didn't know what to do out of HS doesn't mean i need to go through that too.. i was MOTIVATED to become a doc, and if you have a problem with that you can kiss my med-school-accepted ass.." This one really grinds my gears.
I'm still amazed that, as a pre-med/direct-med student in Philadelphia, you've never heard of a DO before now. So yeah, I don't buy it.
