Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you're already accepted to med school you need to do a LOT of research on this topic; considering, at the end of medical training DO's will be your EQUAL in every sense of the word.

..the ****?? how is that possible??? i'm going to MEDICAL school, they DO NOT.. how can they be equal to us?

because if that was the case, why wouldn't EVERYONE just become a DO? you can just chill through undergrad without putting in much work (you can get in with a 25 MCAT - WTF?!?!) go to fake med school.. i mean, DO-school.. and be a doc with the same $$$ at the end.. if this was true, everyone & their momma's would've been doing it..

yeah honestly the first time i even heard of a "DO" was while i was studying for MCAT's in january this year, and i came on this board for help with problems and browsed onto the "DO" board.. sorry if i'm lost as hell but nobody ever even mentioned this to me before in my life..

Lost as hell sounds about right. MD's and DO's are the SAME in practice in the United States. It's not "fake" medical school. Sure the standards aren't the same for admittance to school, but don't think of it as any less of an education! DO schools actually treat applicants like people and allow for mistakes that can be made up for, because most people while they're growing up in college, believe it or not!, make a mistake here or there. Being at Drexel, in Philly, with one of the most recognized DO schools in the country (PCOM), I recommend you get off your high horse about the MD and realize that you'll probably have many interactions with DO's. Not to mention, during your education/training, there will probably be more than one time when you're the subordinate to a DO. DO some research.

what? hahahaha are you referring to my avatar?

yes i am lisa simpson

that combined with the fact that you said if we google your views or something we would find u!! your lisa!!

alright, whatever you say mr. fake-doctor-that-couldn't-get-into-med-so-had-to-settle-for-DO 😀

seriously though it's good to know this, i had no idea..

but then what is reasoning for almost all ppl to go into med rather than DO? there has to be SOME advantage to it? money?

hahhahaha if you google my real name you get some insight to what my views are. actually, brings up a question. do you think med schools are googling us? like when they read our app, if they are interested, do you think they will google our name? the top 2 pages of google are actually related to me....so...idk, i'm torn on wanting them to know i'm cool and hoping they don't in case they disagree with the POV i have in what's on google.

You're in for a rude awakening. You seem to be the epitome of everything negative that has ever been stereotyped about pre-meds. You're not even a real pre-med being spoon fed an admissions spot right out of high school. Give me a break. You have no respect and you're very unlike to earn anyone's respect either.

tdurden, I do not know what is wrong with you. Are you ignorant about the situation with osteopathic medicine, or are you just being arrogant?

1) MDs do not intrinsically make more money than DOs. That is a myth.

2) The reason DO schools have lower admissions stats is because they believe that grades/MCAT score alone do not reflect whether an individual will qualify as a good doctor. I know MD schools are also beginning to do this, but DO schools truly believe that even an individual with a 22 MCAT has the capacity to be an outstanding doctor, and I definitely know people in this category.

And honestly, dude, fake doctor? Do you realize that many of your future rotation-mates at Drexel will be from PCOM? You'll be learning the SAME things as them during your clinicals

btw i was just at an all u can eat sushi place and i had a yabba doo time.

do u guys ever feel like some of ur friends r drifting away... I had such a solid group of friends first year...

now its more like i have different groups of friends that dont associate with each other and its so much harder to make time for all of them, whereas before everyone would just chill together. whats happening 🙁 i miss the way my friends use to be 🙁

Yeah. After everyone moves off campus and people start spending a lot of time with SO's groups of friend deteriorate. It's not so bad though. At least if you keep in touch with a few people then you can start to develop more than one social group.

ahhhh so much hate in this thread too, everyone is splitting up im gonna cry🙁

jk im a man. men dont cry. but seriously no fighting

just think about it like this:
its like chocolate ice-cream and strawberry. u pay the same for both but some ppl prefer one over the other. in the end tho they are both ice-cream and came from a cows nipple.

Oh wow, who is this fella hatin' on DO's? Sounds like a box of tools to me. Anyway, just to restate what everyone else said, DO is no less of a physician than MD. The head of at least a couple of MD schools that I know of are DO's.

yea i try to stay in touch with everyone but its really hard, i feel like i have to put a lot of effort into it whereas before I would wake up go to my living room and few of my friends would just be on my couch. i miss that. now everyones too busy to exist on my couch 🙁

my closer friends are always around tho which is nice but i miss everyone else.

wow, you need to calm the hell down, i said thank you for the info & i'm just curious about what other routes ppl are taking, what the hell is wrong in that?

dont freaking tell me i'm not a "real" pre-med.. i put in my work in HS so i wouldn't be slaving in college.. i did my volunteering, my shadowing, my 25+ applications, my half-dozen program interviews.. all cause your dumb ass didn't know what to do out of HS doesn't mean i need to go through that too.. i was MOTIVATED to become a doc, and if you have a problem with that you can kiss my med-school-accepted ass..

and what leads you to believe i "dont have respect"? because i wasn't aware of another freaking program?? are you kidding me? i did not need to ever look into it cause my future is already solid; don't say i don't have respect because i didn't look up info in the past.

i'm not ignorant. an ignorant person wouldn't pass three sets of interviews with other doctors. i'm just not well-aware of the "DO" programs, which in no way makes me an "ignorant" person. if you started asking me, for example, about how to get a suit fitted & tapered, or how to change the oil in a BMW, i would HELP you there because i know what's going on, and that wouldn't make you an "ignorant" person, now would it?

:bullcrap:

Even if you didn't grow up in Philadelphia, you've been here for a few years at this point, since the only BS/MD program Drexel has is with itself. Your school is 3 1/2 miles from PCOM, and Philly is one of the most DO-friendly areas in the country. The hospitals in the area have a substantial number of DOs on staff, many of which run departments. I would NOT be surprised if you've been cared for by a DO and didn't even realize it. Why? Because they are physicians as much as MD's are.

I suggest you pull your head out of your ass before you get out of medical school and a DO that's your superior does it for you so he can properly kick it. The lack of respect you have for physicians that will be your equals, if not your superiors, is disgusting. And stop calling allo "med" and osteo "DO". They're both medicine. Grow up.

That would be you showing no respect. And never did I call you a *******, so you need read what is being said before you start calling names. Forgive me for having a life outside of school for, hmmm I don't know,,, forever!

Tell this to your chief resident, or your attending who is a DO.

Yeah. My hall freshmen year was so tight it was harder to find privacy than it was to find a good time. I'm hoping med school will foster a good environment for friendship, I think it will, but a lot of that will depend on who's in the class.

hes just confused guys no need to belittle the poor guy. just give him the info, he'll say thanks. and we all come out happy.

were all e-buddies cmon now

i totally agree with you. i hope ppl r kool wherever i go.. it will make meds amazing

That would be you showing no respect.

maybe you didn't notice the large smiley face and the "seriously though"? but i was just kidding around with that post.

honestly guys i'm not in med school yet, and i just didn't know what a DO was about! i never said it's inferior or anything like that, i'm just so shocked right now that all i had to say was "what is a DO" and everyone is attacking me 😕 anyway i'm not even disputing that DO's can be equal to MD's, but i've never (knowingly) met one in my life so what's all the fuss about..

Let's just live in peace, MD/DO, doesn't matter.

No worries, tdurden, no bad blood

I apologize for questioning your pre-med "realness". I expect the same in return.

maybe you didn't notice the large smiley face and the "seriously though"? but i was just kidding around with that post.
To me, that came off as a great big s***-eating grin to say "I'm going to be an MD, you know, a REAL doctor, and you're not. Neener-neener."

Several of the things you said come off as thinking DO is inferior. To recap:

"indianv, what exactly differentiates a DO from an MD then? they aren't physicians in the traditional sense right? i'm thinking the pay-grade must be much lower for DO considering the more lax application requirements & high rate of acceptance.. "

"..the ****?? how is that possible??? i'm going to MEDICAL school, they DO NOT.. how can they be equal to us?"

This one really grinds my gears.

I'm still amazed that, as a pre-med/direct-med student in Philadelphia, you've never heard of a DO before now. So yeah, I don't buy it.

sorry if i unknowingly offended you, i absolutely did not mean it that way, i'm honestly just curious for some info..

like indianv said, no bad blood 👍

again, i am not in philly, i am in nj. and that has no bearing upon the fact that i had no idea what the hell a DO was.

I missed you say that the first time. Regardless, you need to wise up if you expect to practice medicine in Philadelphia.

And next time you have no idea what something is, maybe you should JUST ask questions about it, instead of insulting it repeatedly, mmmkay?

This post is the exact reason why I disagree with BS/MD programs. (and the HS->Medicine programs of foreign countries)

Again, post earlier, come back, a hundred more posts....I'm fading away 🙁

Again, post earlier, come back, a hundred more posts....I'm fading away 🙁

Just do what I do, put a book in front of you, and study.

You know those moments where you get distracted with your mp3 player, or when you start fiddling around with your pen, or start thinking about what you'd rather be doing, or something like that,

hit refresh, then post here, then hit books again for another 20 mins, repeat.

Lol, how can you guys post so much?!! Omg spring break is over for me 🙁

I'm not taking any classes right now, probably no more til school next year, unless I wind up needing another math course. And I need to keep the babe in my sights, which means I'm usually watching her over the top of the laptop while she makes a mess of the joint, cuz it's fun. 👍

Haha nice. I should be on more now, since I'm back from orlando.

drexel and temple both have numerous BA/BS MD programs in and out of philly, just to let you know

those routes are an interesting way to do it. i dont think they are the best way, personally, because if i bust my butt to get certain stats then i want to also try to get in a great school. not to say drexel and temple aren't great, just maybe after 4 yrs i want to go somewhere else.

i just don't like being told what to do, confined to one thing 🙂

Oh! I'm not sure where my MSAR is at the moment and I did a quick online search and it only looked like Drexel had a program with their UG division. I stand corrected, but I maintain that, if he's going to go to medical school in Philadelphia, he needs to wise up.

I hear ya, but at the same time, I wish I would have done one of them, probably because I have a useless degree *sigh*. Penn State to Jeff, probably. I had the stats, I just didn't see myself going into medicine when I graduated high school.

I'm pretty sure they have a six year program and a seven year program, depending on how masochistic you are.

How cold is it at everyones house? It's 50 degrees here.

its probably about 0 degrees here
