Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sun, I have to tell you. Hubs and I have just started watching Archer on Netflix. OMG, it's awesome.

We also started thanks to Sun. +1 on the Archer is awesome!

I feel so vindicated...because this sequence has already been repeated FOUR times with some other of my friends:

me: "omg! Archer is amazing! you should watch it!"
friend: "hmmph."
me: "ahaha I just watched s02e06 for the 14th time! still funny!"
friend: "meh."
me: if you watch Archer tonight I will pay you $20 if you don't like it."
friend: "bleh."

*Two months later*

friend: "Wow!! ahahaha I just watched Archer and it was awesome! Why didn't you tell me it was THIS awesome??"
me: :lame:

so I just came back from ice-skating at an indoor rink, and I fell flat on my right hip...I'm in quite a bit of pain lol....and it's all because i was too lazy to get the "right fit" ice skates...they were a bit wide so I "wobbled" and I guess my right foot wobbled as I was turning and BAM...slipped onto my hip. 🙁

rhino, you wanted to scold me? you took her side? she should be DQed from SDN.

bros before hoes, mayne.

Cliff could you find a bigger picture please? And what are you talking about?

That reminds me, Cougs hasn't broken the internet for a while.

 at tiger pic.

I actually thought THEY were beating a dead horse arguing with you. You made your point, and they berated you for it ---> = them being lame.

C'mon bro, just look at that chicks posts, she is lame. 30k posts here, all very detailed advice (especially last year in the amcas question thread not even during her cycle 😕), and she hasn't even been accepted yet? B!tch, please 🙄. Even the peeps in her school specific thread had to tell her to stfu... You have to laugh that kind of nonsense off.

For the record....I TOTALLY watched it (and loved it) when you told me to🙂

Ouchies. I hurt my ankle this morning. I've twisted/sprained them so many times now they just give out at random. I would probably kill myself in heels > 3".

Oh hey... BTW. SQUEE!!!

I hope I did that right.

Ah, found it. Mildly entertaining.

I have a funny story about the topic on hand as well.

People at my last interview were actually talking about her

That's insane. Referring to her by her SDN handle?

A certain "school admin" frequent poster lost all credibility with me by directly praising this 30K wonder in the open forums: "I always see you giving such good advice on these forums." LAWL.

Also, Cliff, your response in that thread was hilarious. I've never read a post that conveyed monotone more effectively.

Was sure I knew who this was but then this

and she hasn't even been accepted yet?

made me realize I dont. Thought this was a "med student". I'd also like that link please 🙂

A movie about some punk taking 'roids and suddenly become a super soldier. Sounds pretty interesting. The only thing is that the same actor already played the human torch, so it seems kind of weird (what if there's a crossover?).

Got home from work around 2 last night.

Found out that my neighborhood grocery store is no longer 24 hours.

Then found out that my Epi Pen prescription somehow magically did not get to the pharmacy😕 Now there is no time to get it before I go out of town for the weekend to work.

Sent my boss a recap email at the end of my day (which happened to be at 12:30am, TYVM) and said "hey, I'll be off the grid tomorrow, got a lot of stuff to do. If it is urgent, call me. If not..we'll talk Friday at 8am when I get to work"

Wake up to an email from her saying "call me and we'll chat about all of this stuff you did!". No urgency, no nothing.

Seriously.

Awe, that's cute you still think "she" is an adcom member 😛

I thought that was weird, too, but I'm SURE there isn't going to be a crossover.

The original Fantastic Four movies were not by Marvel Studios. Most of the Marvel comic-based movies since 2008 have been, including this one, and the way I see it, they're more "official" since it's being handled by the same company that created the characters originally. I'm sure if Marvel Studios was going to redo the F4 movies, they'd cast someone else, like they're doing with Spider-man.

The only spiderman movie I liked was the first one. I hope they redo it a little more edgy, kind of like The Dark Knight... or with the action of that Kate Beckinsale (sp?) vampire movie.

Edit: vampire movie = underworld

Underworld. I love those movies...

I know the new Superman movie with my #1 celeb crush is supposed to have Supes kickin' ass and taking names. The rumored big bad for the movie is supposed to be General Zod, who's also a Kryptonian, so he could actually not pull punches on a villain like that. 👍

The superman movie sounds cool. Hopefully they don't do that lame thing, where superman has to fight the Villian at half strength b/c there is some kryptonite or some crap. I don't want to pay $14 to watch superman fight at half speed!

Edit: stupid iPhone auto correct... Made it nonsensical haha

Something I've been thinking about a lot, especially given what's being discussed right now, is the SDN paradigm. I've met a good number of people who have been very successful in med school applications without ever seeing SDN. What do we think contributes to the successful med student's application decision-making without having SDN? Notably, the premed advising here is minimal and ineffectual.

I try to use SDN for entertainment purposes only and get some lulz from the srs kids.

just because it's minimal doesn't mean its useless. I, for one, have received some useful info here...masked but the ton of garbage, but still...

If I had known about SDN before I had graduated from college, my grades would've been much higher. My advisors really failed in that area. My major advisor knew I was premed but didn't think my grades would be any sort of problem for med school, and my premed advisor was like "Three C's in premed classes? ****tons of B's in BCPM classes? NO PROBLEM LOL! You'll be fiiiiiiine!" Then I applied to COMPLETElY the wrong sorts of schools. And my personal statement sucked ass. And no one said anything.

There really are people out there applying to med school who are completely clueless about nearly everything, and I was one of them. I'm sure there are people out there who are well-informed without utilizing SDN, but I for one wish I had known about SDN

As far as your question goes, I think the applicants who are successful without SDN are either talking to relatives/friends who have recently gone thru this same process, or they are getting info from school advisors who are actually good, or (I think this is the most likely) they are getting most of their advice from premed peers who are themselves reading SDN or have a great advisor.

I found SDN a little after having sent out my primary app (and I never talked to an advisor). I got most of my info from med schools' websites and a bit from an Ortho resident I know. Having done research was luck since I did two semesters of directed study to get free As.

pretty sure FlowRate was referring to the ineffectual advising available at school, not "here" on the intarwebs...

anyway, some people are really, truly what adcoms want, both on paper and in person. they don't need much advising because they are already doing everything right. They are the corollary to the zillions who apply every year who think they have everything sewn up, when in fact they haven't got a snowball's chance.

think of it this way: i really, really doubt that the people who post here and have MdApps profiles with 10+ acceptances really needed much of the information a person can glean from being here. they were already superstars.

This seems to be the story at my school. Our advisor is called "Pat on the back" because she only gives positive feedback.

I feel like a lot of people do research as part of their major. i.e. if I had done biochem at this school, I would have been required to do research each semester. It's actually a good system, IMO

I should have been more specific, by here I did indeed mean at my school.

Again a good point. Some people really are "naturals" of the med apps process!

A lot of my advising was based off of what MD's had told me, mostly during HS. A lot of it was bad advice, in retrospect, haha.

I am soooo happy to see that P is back. 😡

Who will be next to return to SDN? M?! Heaven preserve us.

someone finally understands

You think you want to know, but once you know you will think to yourself: I am disappoint. That was not as juicy as I thought it would be.

Anyways...no they were not talking about specific SDN handles. More like the "the crazy girl who posts every 5 seconds." And someone had used that same phrase in the school-specific thread too, which I found interesting with regards to the speaker and unmistakable with regards to the...spoken of (?)

P is back, and with a suicidal thread, no less. If it wasn't something so srs/depressing, I would have already tried to derail the thread.

Haha, good times at your interview... I hope someone brings up SDN at my interview there 🙂

Very true. It was not my intention to raise expectations. I kind of feel bad for putting her down... because I think she might be bleargh's classmate. Who knows... maybe they used to date or something .

P.S. :meanie:

rhino are we talking about the same person?

Is Michael Jackson's nose really the creepiest feature? Everyone always seemed to think so, but I would respectfully submit that it is his mouth and/or eyes. The eyes look dead and that mouth came right off the Grinch who stole Christmas

I think I would have been just as successful whether I found SDN or not. As a non-trad, much of the advice I received early on, or heard others get, wasn't applicable to me. In fact, in some cases the advice was just flat out wrong. I remember getting into a big argument with one of the most frequent posters on the WAMC forum (not anymore, but last year). Afterward, I realized that poster was accepted EDP... wtf did he know about the application process or what schools were looking for? It is important to take all advice here with a grain of salt. If anything, the most helpful things I've gotten from SDN was help selecting schools, and some quality entertainment on this thread in particular.

I think SDN will be more helpful in the future, b/c to be honest, I don't know much about the process after medical school begins (other than what I've been reading here the last few months).

Yes, same person discussed at your interview.

Edit: Also, damn that is a grinch mouth!!

Haha, Sun...My bf made me watch Archer a while back, and as soon as it came on, I immediately recognized his face as your avatar!!! I was like, "oh THAT's who Sun has an Avatar of..." My bf looked at me like I was crazy.

Great show, btdubs. 🙂
