i think our engineering backgrounds have molded us into very similar people. i was just at a school of similar caliber to stanford and i did not like what i heard from the cali residents.. but my opinion only becomes relevant if i get an interview
im leaving for a week on a 3 interview tour so i will again be absent for a while but good luck to everyone and stay sane, because i know i am losing it

For sure.
Losing it.
Hard core.

I wouldn't doubt it, engineering is the stuff of gods and masochists. I think it's great for causing burnout lol.

I just had chai apple flavored oatmeal. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Half of me thinks simple breakfast foods should stay simple; my tastebuds aren't awake yet anyways.

I think this has been the longest month in my life.

I completely agree with this statement. 25 days.... :smack:

HA! That sounds delicious! I had cold pizza for breakfast - it was a great life decision. I haven't had any coffee yet this morning though, which could turn into an issue since I am working til 9:30 PM tonight...

Seems like we need another icebreaker-style question to get the conversation flowing again.

I Googled icebreaker questions, and here's one I like:

You were just given a yacht. What would you name it?

like from that show "The OC"....Summer Breeze

There is pretty much no way I am going to enjoy my birthday tomorrow. I hope I at least get some good news back from one school or another this week.

Here's today's horoscope! The general horoscope says things will speed up soon, so hopefully schools will get back to all of us! 👍

In these final days of the sun's journey through Virgo, savor the bitter sweetness of the changing seasons. It will only be this way for a moment, and then it will be another way. Things speed up. Mental snapshots run like tricky photography -- the passage of time seen in the transformation of trees, the height of a child, the ever-drifting stars.

ARIES (March 21-April 19). It's been a long time since you looked at your schedule and saw a lot of white space -- time to fill. There's a gleeful feeling inside as you realize you can do anything you want to do!

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Your self-worth is not based on how people react to you -- not usually, at least. You may forget this and take a loved one's mood personally, when it actually has nothing to do with you.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You believe in yourself, and so you are able to make decisions that are not always popular. As long as it feels right to you, it's what you must do. Your inner confidence will eventually sway everyone to your side.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You have your own identity -- your own interests, responsibilities, resources and pleasures. That's why a certain person is very attracted to you. Don't change. Stay autonomous.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). You may not be entirely qualified for a job, though you don't know enough about what it will entail to know where the holes in your education and training are. You'll learn as you go. Believe you can do it. You can.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). Beware of "while supplies last" sales tactics. It's all hype and pressure. What really matters and is worth having is permanent and can be obtained at any old time of the day or night.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You have a terrific handle on your relationships, and it's only getting better. You establish a graceful balance between serving your own needs and the needs of others.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). There are those you've drifted away from for no apparent reason. In the next three days, you will reconcile with someone you never really officially broke away from and find you have much to talk about.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). You will be made aware of other people's problems, which may seem much worse than yours. Everyone takes on the sort of trouble they think they can handle.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You're amazingly resourceful. You find a good application for so-called "bad" habits. The very behaviors that you once thought were less than ideal will lead to your ultimate success.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). You love it when the spiritual and the material worlds line up in your field of vision. You feel present and represented in multiple dimensions. It all makes perfect sense, if only for a moment.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). Life must be lived forward, but can only be understood backward. Today, for this reason and so many more, it's extremely challenging to stay in the present.

I'm a Cancer:

CANCER (June 22-July 22). You have your own identity -- your own interests, responsibilities, resources and pleasures. That's why a certain person is very attracted to you. Don't change. Stay autonomous.

I think I'm going to interpret this as a particular school really, really liking me. 😀

Awww, Daisy, why couldn't you have posted Friday's horoscope!🙂 Now I want to know if a school likes me too🙂

Here's last Friday's, Cougs:

Aries (March 21-April 19): Forgiveness and compassion are becoming a regular part of your emotional repertoire. Keep this up.
Taurus (April 20-May 20): You just want what's best for your loved one, and your loved one feels the same. There is no power struggle in this relationship.
Gemini (May 21-June 21): There is spectacular beauty in the bits of nature around you. You'll feel the grace of leaves and dance to the music in the rain.
Cancer (June 22-July 22): You don't have to do all the work. Your part may be quite small — mostly it's about maintaining an attitude.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22): There's a fine line between being a great PR person and being a troublemaker. Both require you to be good at drawing attention; you are.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Even if you fall short of what you'd like to give, your contribution is appreciated.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 23): You have fans in the sidelines you do not even know about. They are waiting for the right moment to make their interest in you known.
Scorpio (Oct. 24-Nov. 21): Your assembly of random items and bits of information is brilliant.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): You can learn your mental patterns and guide the natural flow of your mind to positive effect.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): When someone offers to help you, just say "yes." You are used to proving your independence at every juncture. But drop all that for now.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): You will love being out and about. And looking your best is just one of the many things you can do today to better enjoy your sources of happiness.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20): It's not that you try to buck the odds. It's just that you don't know the odds.

That makes me immensely happy!!!!!!!!!

The last two days all I have been thinking is that I didn't do enough🙂 Thanks Daisy <3

i'm aquarius. does that mean i'll end up at my top choice?

Hello everyone! Just thought I'd check in on Monday and see how everyone is doing.

Just finished up at AECOM..Going over to my other school tomorrow.

Awkwardly enough, my interviewer asked me what my plans were for tomorrow, and I gave her a look of hesitation and awkward silence, and she was like "no plans?" and I was like ".....no actually, I have an interview at another school". I thought honesty would be best in this case.

Secondly, none of you know me in person, but I talk with my hands a LOT..and even I noticed during the first part (and probably throughout) that I was just waving my hands in front of my face the whole time....I can't say it was good, but it wasn't bad. She was a very nice doctor, and the interview style was very relaxed. 🙂

i just got my first rejection. i feel like a real applicant now.

I'm glad to know it was relaxed...especially b/c i will be interviewing there too! I'm sure it went well though

was it at the school we hoped it wouldn't be?...stupid *****

It's amazing 🙂 Plus I really like to support small businesses and independent artists. If only I had the money to buy cool art prints...

I like supporting small business too!!! I work at a women's shelter where the women LOVE to make their own jewelry, so I've been scouring Etsy for awesome beads they could use (since that's my go-to for my own shiz).

If I had the money, I would buy original paintings from independent artists. I know it takes serious balls to part ways with a painting. I've only done it once...and it sucked.

Oh no! 🙁

Was it pre- or post-interview?

pre-interview to a stat whoring school that i new was a reach. i'm not bummed about it. chi city is a bit too cold for me, anyway. it just foils my plans to buy a derrick rose jersey :meanie:

lol chiefs, bears, and bucs go winless in the preseason, and are all 2-0 to start the season.
I LOVE THE NFL

Has anyone started to think about Halloween costumes yet? I know that if I don't start thinking early I'll forget about it and all the good costumes will be taken.

If I didn't think my bf would die from embarrassment, I'd dress as Snooki.

without the second one i never, ever would have caught on to the first one...

I love this meme. There's so many good ones of different songs or other common phrases.

I got my costume set. But that's only because I couldn't wear it last year.. ended up having a huge exam that Monday. Oh well.

It's making me want to follow more closely. Maybe one day I'll have a favorite team. And holy crap what is SF doing leading New Orleans??

Since my Mad Men obsession has grown I want to go as one of the characters. Maybe even a generic secretary. Their clothes just look so fun.

everyone should dress like their SDN name, that wouldnt be lame or anything :lame:

By request, I'm reusing the clark kent costume from the super hero party that I went to ~ a month ago. It was high quality stuff and perhaps the most money I've put into something for which almost all the clothing items are exclusively dedicated to only costuming. Made my own superman shirt and everything.

A gal at the same party tried to pull off snooki (I was too... chocolatey.. to realize that she wasn't dressed as a superhero at the time), it didn't work too well. She just looked like yet another fat bimbo (not implying you're either of those).

i was dr. jekyll and mr. hyde last year. i dont know about this year.

Haha I'd have to get a lot of things to dress as Snooki. Wig, bejeweled sunglasses, huuuuge Bump-it, brown paint/self tanner... And no, I'm not fat, despite how much I talk about food on this thread

lol, Daisy. You are reading my mind tonight. haha

My friends, bf, and i are doing the Guido thing. Still not sure if we're doing the actual characters....I'm too tall for snooki, not well-endowed enough to be JWOW, and i just really don't like Sam or Angelina...

but yeah. so excited. we were going to be "swingers," and then decided that was too vague. haha

Most of my family would have been picked for Jersey Shore had they tried out, so I can't go as anything like that. It would feel uninspired. 😉

Maybe I'll go as a nurse.

I'm going to be the Doppler Effect this year.
