Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey....wait a minute.

I just did some math, ksmi....
how could you have joined less than three years ago, be an HSDN alum, and also be an MS1 now?🙂

Edit: and goodnight!

I'm assigned to moderate that forum, so I have to be a member of that usergroup. hSDN hasn't even been around that long. A little over 2 years maybe.

Plus, I obviously love icons. 🙂

are you guys saying you didnt meet for breakfast, but you rode there together?

Epic multiquote of the day:
:hello:
Howdy ksmi! You're never in here🙂 What's shakin?

Daisy....I hope the new volunteer gig goes well!

Long day of work for me....and now a long night on call. So sleepy. But I feel a little better after my complete and total meltdown last night.

A little.

Cougs, I hope things get better for you soon!

Life is AWESOME. I can't put into words how much I love my class. Best people ever. So my advice to you people, go to second look weekends and pick the school were you feel like you fit in best with the current students and the other potential classmates. Being happy is a crucial part of medical school, and it's the people that will make that happen.

School is school. I'm learning lots of stuff, most of it interesting. It gets draining at times, but we get lots of time in the hospitals too to remind us what we're working towards.

I've also decided that I shall become the resident M1 in this thread (unless there's already another - then I'll just replace them 🙂). So hello to everyone I've never met. :hello:

Awesome advice and hello! Nice to meet you!

Well good thing I'm here. 🙂

I've had a good few days. Anatomy test yesterday that I destroyed. Then a super relaxing day of shopping with my girls. Then hanging with applicants trying to make them want to come to WashU - acutally met one of you SDN 2015ers yesterday and talked his ear off while we watched the rest of my class make a spectacle of themselves at our post-exam party. Went to a sketcho bar where the bartender gave us free drinks and pizza - neither of which I partook in since I'm trying to be healthier, but it was still fun.

Today I slept in and skipped my first class, went to histo and histo lab, skipped another class, went to an ob/gyn procedural workshop where I got to learn how to deliver a baby and did an ultrasound for a real patient. Then went to my weekly Tuesday dinner with my crew - $1 tacos and $2 margaritas FTW.

Tomorrow will be weird. We start head and neck in anatomy which means it'll be the first time to see our cadaver's face. It was weird enough to see their hands and feet. I can't imagine what this will be like.

Sooo much awesomeness right there.

That reminds me.....cliff, I did say I would be getting another tattoo when I got into medical school.

I need to get on that.

I have my tattoo picked out already. Now I just need an acceptance. I think it's pretty fitting. It's a pic of bugs bunny dressed as a doctor looking at Taz's open mouth. 😀

For now, I'm interested in peds, anesthesiology, and EM. However, I shadowed a gastroenterologist not long ago, and that guy was awesome! It made me really think twice about it and realize that I can't narrow it down before seeing more of each profession.

I'm interested in EM and critical care at the moment, but I haven't had much experience in either field.

hmm so i guess there won't be a chance for anonymity here but WashU is really impressive and ksmi is probably the happiest medical student i've met to this point!

Morning all!

Just caught up from last night. Ksmi the M1, welcome to your reign in our thread!

My top choices are ophtho (I heart eyeballs) and any kind of surgery.

I also did the silly Specialty Aptitude Test at http://www.med-ed.virginia.edu/specialties/ and got neurosurgeon as my #1... mostly because I have boundless focus and I don't really want to hear about people's problems

Daisy, I took that quiz too. It told me I should go into nuclear med or plastics, neither of which I'm interested in. I'm mostly interested in surgical specialties, and ob-gyn.

Welcome, ksmi, creator of school specific threads! 🙂

Ugh guys, I've been sick 🙁. Had the worst food poisoning EVER!! :barf:Just starting to feel a bit better a few days later.

Hmm, I like this specialty discussion. EM, infectious diseases, trauma, neurology, peds are all possibilities. The problem is everything sounds cool to me right now - hopefully med school can help me eliminate these.

We should make the MS1s choose possible specialties for us based on random (possibly useless) questions. Like human magic 8 balls.

I like this idea!

no pity parties. just rock your interview, and as you would say "handle it".

BB, Interview where?!?!?!

I'm interested mostly in Ob/Gyn (either general, MFM or REI) and neonatology. I also have like a dozen other specialties that interest me: medical genetics, ortho, neuro, anes, ENT, EM, infectious disease, allergy/immunology, endocrine, etc. The only thing I'm sure I won't go into is ophtho, because eyeballs freak me out.

Glad you're feeling better. I was sick all last night, much barfiness. Then I called in this morning and got a substitute. So I'm sure my principal thinks I'm just taking a 5 day weekend instead of the 4 day one we were supposed to have.

Those results usually reflect people who desire a strong work-LIFE balance and maybe (for nuc med) some phys sci stuff I think.

That's what I thought too, when I looked at it, though that doesn't necessarily sync up to my answers in the quiz. I think I wound up getting those because of attention to detail and don't mind repetitive tasks (good for all surg but possibly very good for plastics.)

Looks like I won't be starting an eye clinic with any of you...

Ophtho will be pretty important by the time we're into our careers, especially with all the type 2 diabetes and resultant retinopathy. On that note, all of you stop eating fast food so I don't have to cut your eyeballs open later in life! :meanie:

+10 million

Seriously, everytime I've had to dissect a cow's eye in a bio class I have come 0.5 seconds away from :barf:. I've seriously started gagging and dry heaving and had to walk out of the room, especially once the humor spills out.

Okay... I have to stop talking about it because I'm going to start wretching.

i decided to get on the vitamin D bandwagon. has anyone else? and if so, have you noticed any significant results?

are you guys saying you didnt meet for breakfast, but you rode there together?
Baller is way too good looking for me.
Cougs, I said the same thing but I don't know where the heck I'd put it. I might shelve the tattoo idea. =(
Yeah, that is my big issue....I am big on symmetry. This one would mess up my tattoo symmetry unless I put it in "the middle" somewhere which is not really what I want to do. I'm still not quite sure where to put it.

hmm so i guess there won't be a chance for anonymity here but WashU is really impressive and ksmi is probably the happiest medical student i've met to this point!
Awww, now I'm wishing I applied there. St Louis just is so foreign to me. I couldn't get a read on it.

What should the results be?

Also...I promised an epic multiquote a long time ago and just could never do it. I apologize for my failure.

Got called in last night....it was short and sweet, not too horrible. Messed up my sleep pattern so I feel a little wonky today. I think I am going to go see Morning Glory....I've been looking forward to it coming out for months.

possible noticeable results seem like they might include improved immune function as well as cognitive function.

I hope I wasn't like annoyingly happy. Those people bother me sometimes, like the always super happy bubbly people. Like, how can one person be SOOO happy all the time? I'd be very disappointed in myself if I was that girl.

For some reason, I've been thinking a lot about OB/Gyn as well. I just can't be sure how I'll feel about it. We shall see I guess.

I want to like OB/Gyn, but it's just too personal to me. I've seen all sorts of surgeries, some of them really intense but I can barely stand seeing any Gyn surgeries or births. I don't know, I just don't think I could handle it.

But bring on the general surgery! Or peds!

+1. This is the one rotation I'm not looking forward to being on.

whatever, everyone just get really old so eventually you have to come see me for a joint replacement. i'll have an SDN discount.

They're not all diseased. I mostly just like them when babies are coming out of them🙂
oh god that makes me want to hurl

yay!!! Thats awesome to hear, I'm gonna get to come see for myself at the end of the month! 😍

sweet!!!!!!!!!! oooh, can I be the singer, since I speak an obscure Slavic language too?

Yes! We will have the ultimate EuroVision band.

I can play guitar - I do IRL but don't so often anymore because of school/work/this whole pre-med stress mess/etc/etc

Robo sings....check
bleargh saxes....check
Shanks guitars....check
And I shall violin. I could wear that exact same costume that the dude is wearing and still look ultra girly.

I nominate myself for vocals or trumpet!

Or guitar, if we were playing Rock Band or *Something* Hero. >.<

I will be a groupie.

I will first set my targets on the lead singer but will take whatever I can get (much like my medical school application strategy).
