I've been staying in tonight to try to figure out thanksgiving travel plans.

I have a ride to City X.
Then I take the megabus from City X to City Y (closer to home).
Explore City Y for the afternoon.
Take greyound from City Y to home (or figure out some type of ride).

This would only allow me 2 total days in City X.
I feel like a crazy person, but I don't want to spend tgiving alone. 🙁
(though one of my friends said I could go to his grandma's place haha)

Yeah, I said something similar but much less eloquent about prenups keeping divorcees from hating each other more than they did when they decided to split up.
 
I'm not a big fan of prenups, but then again, all I know about them is from the media.

I understand getting a prenup if you have money from the get-go (already a physician that has paid of their debt, celebrity, whatever) because you should be able to protect what already is yours -- and you risk the spouse only being a golddigger.

If I got married tomorrow though, before all the medical school and residency drama... I wouldn't get a prenup. I believe the spouse than has the right to claim for of your future earnings, if a divorce occurs, because they were there supporting you. I believe this even if the spouse ends up cheating... because people do grow apart... but they were there earlier on so they shouldn't be denied some funds.

Then again, I still really have no idea what a prenup is. haha.

Also suncrusher -- divorce rates are lower if you are a college graduate. 15% for first 10 years of marriage. So it isn't that bleak.
 
i dont really care about stats for only 10 years, i like lifetime stats. Marriages are for life unless they end in death or divorce, so the stats should be too, right? Do you know the lifetime stats for college grads? I'm genuinely interested now : )

I think you can customize prenups, right?

I'll try to find lifetime stats but from wikipedia:
"Success in marriage has been associated with higher education and higher age. 81% of college graduates, over 26 years of age, who wed in the 1980s, were still married 20 years later. 65% of college graduates under 26 who married in the 1980s, were still married 20 years later."

I think if you last more than 10 years though, you should have to go through the messy divorce. 😛
And maybe people have less messy divorces with prenups only because they are better at planning on what they want and being able to communicate to their ex-spouse this withouth going all crazy about it...more so than the non-prenup people... so regardless the divorce would be less messy (i'm just wondering. have no idea though...)

also from wikipedia: "It is estimated that upwards of 95% of divorces in the US are "uncontested," because the two parties are able to come to an agreement without a hearing (either with or without lawyers/mediators/collaborative counsel) about the property, children and support issues."

Pretty much, it sounds like in this day and age, you should wait til you are 26+ to get married. Are prefrontal lobe is still forming until about 25, meaning that men still have no idea what they want... or how to plan long term... 😛

but we finally found each other. so we are good till we are golden. 😉

But I married young and dumb... he married cuz everyone said not to, then married again for the wrong reasons. This time we married for the right reasons. I think a lot of people rush into marriage not really understanding the commitment and effort it takes to make a marriage work.

I'm 23, and the only people my age I know from college or HS that are now married are either Mormon or pregnant.

My life outlook is that my 20s are my "me" years, where I get myself to where I want to be in my career and have the experiences I want to have. Late 20s/early 30s is the transition time to being a real adult.

Anecdote: One of my sister's 27 year old newly-married friends said she had the baby talk with her husband... his response? "I still throw up from drinking too much. When I stop doing that, I might be ready for a baby." :laugh:

Hubster was 27 and I was 23. Hrmmm...

Actually, New Year's Eve will be our 10th date-iversary. We got engaged after 5 years then finally got married 2 1/2 years after that. D'awwwww. 😍
 
no offense geeks, but if there was a law that prevented people from getting engaged until they were 25+ i'd be all for it.

I think that's how most people feel about the issue, myself included, although I can definitely see myself asking for one at some point or another.

The Met is open late tonight, so a bunch of friends and I are going to hit up Dallas BBQ for some bbq and drinks, and then wander the Met. I guess its our Saturday version of Ferris Bueller's day off... except with ribs, wings, and ancient art.

Nothing so culturally enriching. Gym then hitting the South Bay then watching football then going out. Items 2-4 are all chocolate-milk-laden activities.
 
chocolate milk is on the agenda for me tonight when i get off of work.

I'm going to stay in bed for another 3 hours watching No Ordinary Family, then I am going to get up and go to the gym. Then I will take my doggie for a nice long romp at the dog park, and I will come home and FINALLY write that update letter I have been agonizing about in my head for a week. Then...I'm on call tonight at the hospital.


In the meantime....I'm listening to my upstairs neighbors make way too much noise playing the tuba. Was that what the instrument was in HIMYM? I can't remember.
 
60% chance of me going skiing tomorrow. Just depending on if this gal has time to correspond with me such that we can get all the logistics in place. Interview monday 🙂

Today, might do some homework, but mostly just hanging with the family. Haven't seen 'em in a while 😀

Seriously, this is the first time we've done something like this. Other than seeing bands play now and then, we're usually on the milk chocolate circuit. Should be fun. But I kinda double booked myself. Supposed to meet up with a friend from a school I'm interviewing at this week, to catch up and also ask a few questions. I need to try to merge the two.

So we were in Macy's in the mall this afternoon and I saw a skirt that I thought was absolutely ADORABLE for me for Christmas. We were on our way out of the mall at that point and it was on the mannequin, so I had to look up the info about it when we got home.

It's $100. That is friggin' ridiculous to me. It also probably wouldn't fit me. I don't know if I should be angry about that, or relieved because now I don't feel tempted. :laugh:

when it comes to skirts, I only ask one question: "are her legs nice?" 😀

A few days ago someone posted a pic of grilled oysters from a restaurant in new orleans. It looked good so I found the recipe (butter, pepper, garlic, romano cheese, parmesan cheese, + BBQ) and made them. They came out pretty damn good, but I learned that shucking oysters is a pain in the butt.
