haha, as far as i can tell from the internet, i'm the only person with my name (especially if you throw my middle name in). Guess that means i can't screw up online?

 this cracks me up.

congrats Whimsy! You are awesome!

This is the absolutely best part of having such a common name. It's pretty much impossible to google me and find anything bad. haha. 🙂

me, too! yay!

I definitely show up in the pictures (embarrassing work pic), but I had to go to page 3 to find a page related to me. yay google searches! I did have an ex-boyfriend text me one day a couple months ago and say 'did you know if you google your name, your picture pops up?' - awkward. Anyway, that's my story.

Google my real name and you get...well, me. And some other guy who isn't me. But my website's the top hit. Even so, I do a search on my name every so often to make sure nothing bad is cropping up.

I have never heard of this game you speak of...tell me more!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcassonne_(board_game)

I don't know that I can distill the elements of the game any better than the Wikipedia article, so I'll just compare it to Settlers. The strategy has less of a social/psychological element to it than Settlers and game length is more predictable (there are only 70 tiles to play through). Because of that, it's the kind of game you could play multiplayer online--my coworkers and I always have a game or two going through our iPhones/iPods. Settlers is better to play in person, though. Trading (and talking smack) is always fun.

Secret: I've never played Settlers and I don't even know what's about. If we go to med school near each other, you guys have to educate me.

Did we ever do an icebreaker question on people's new year's resolutions?

I think I need to come up with a few

I'm getting fully back on the weight-loss wagon. I've lost about 14 pounds so far but I have slacked off immensely since Thanksgiving.

I would like to lose about 10 pounds this year. I started my P90X program and I want to do it religiously for 90 days to see what results I get out of it.

Yeah I need to lose way more than 10 pounds.

Side note, I'm in a grouchy freakin' mood, but it's the kind that I think is going to end with me having a good old cry on my husband's shoulder tonight. Ugh.

a clairvoyance regarding your crying events MUST be a girl thing.

feel better gcizzle

I've seen people play, but I was drunk and was quite confused.

Yeah, imma need to do that too. I lost 5ish pounds before Thanksgiving and have kept it off. Just haven't lost more. I'm starting training for a half-marathon in April, so that should help me out. 🙂

Same. I want to be down about 15-20 from where I am now by the time the student dance concert rolls around. I was doing well on that goal until my parents came to town... I've gained a lot of weight since then.

 When my mom's around, she keeps on suggesting things for me to eat even after the third time I've said that I'm not hungry.

I think the statistics that I don't get accepted to any of the four are approximately 5/6 (H) * 2/3 (P) * 2/3 (CC) * 1/2 (C) = ~20%, so 80% chance I get into at least one. Those are good odds right? 🙂
Nerd

And Cornell 😀
Eek! 😀

They say that the top 20 applies to whimsy. 🙂
Yeah I heard that too.

I'm sorry...not only about not sleeping for a long time, but also for last night..
😍
:whoa:

I just googled myself....I found a website talking about how hot people were in my city with my name specifically listed. I am a 7.8 on a scale of 1-10.

I was excited at first.....I would only consider myself a 6.5 on a really good day....then I realized that the "hot" rating had to deal with how close I am to a toxic waste dump 😡

Google just my name and you will discover I am a famous artist... and I didn't even put that on my application. 🙁

I once put "my" art as my desktop background... and my Dad thought I did it since "my" name was on it.

and HAI DAISY!

:hello:Daisy!!!!

That video cracked me up. Cliff and I talked about how awesome it was on gchat.

Speaking of which....why do you never gchat me🙁

I am currently watching a British movie from Netflix. It is good so far. A little sad. It is about a young girl who gets seduced by a ne'er-do-well instead of going to Oxford.

I wanna go to Oxford.

Actually....I kind of want to be seduced.

I got sucked into the thread posted by the guy who is concerned about not having a girlfriend. As much as I am amused that med school in some ways feels like a do-over of undergrad for me, I'm glad that it doesn't come with the insecurities of those years.

Sure it will.

Just wait until you get there 😛

I'm watching a Lifetime movie.

I'm not even watching it on Lifetime...I'm watching it online.

It has Lucy Liu in it. Somehow I feel like sharing this is a cry for help. Maybe someone should stop me.

Shiny new insecurities?🙂

Grad school was the most immature place I have ever been. It was worse than high school. Everyone was boozing and slutting it up.

:sigh: Gosh I miss those days.
I thought that was the mature and reasonable way to do grad school. Work life balance and all.

Do not watch a movie on/from/by lifetime. no.

I feel like I recently saw one with her in it on Lifetime (my sister is obsessed with Lifetime - that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it).

I feel like Lifetime has like 4 plots that they recycle with different characters. And yet the movies suck you in (so bad it's good, but mostly bad?)

Shiny new insecurities?🙂

Hell yeah. It's like my gadget lust. Always gotta have the latest and greatest.

I'm a tad curious to see just what my reaction's going to be when I'm actually, like, in med school. Class and lecture's one thing; been there, done that. But though I've had some experience as a first responder (first aid team), it's comparatively low-pressure. Right now my best guess is, the first time I'm asked to do anything doctor-y, I'm going to snicker uncontrollably with a sort of "lol wut" expression on my face.

Grad school was the most immature place I have ever been. It was worse than high school. Everyone was boozing and slutting it up.

Never did grad school, but I imagine the experience depends on what degree you're pursuing. The grad students I've worked with have been pretty hardworking and responsible; but they've also been, for the most part, international students, so.

Amusingly enough, though, a friend of mine commented on his med school experience as being not unlike high school in some ways. They even had a prom, I think.

Here's my randomness for today -

For Christmas my stepson got an xbox 360 (from his grandma) and my husband and I stayed up till 5 am playing gears of war. Xbox is awesome!

Today at work we are grilling steaks and burgers for lunch and everyone brought in stuff to go with. Sure beats working! 😉

and damn you Mbeas - I clicked on your link and got sucked in by that song! can't...look...away... must ...close...window...

Good morning! I shall also post my randomness for the day:

Yesterday I went to the a bowl game and saw a couple of brawls in the stands... I guess that's what happens when you throw a bunch of drunk hostile fans and a bunch of drunk hostile rednecks together in one confined space.

When I google my name, about 75% of the results are about a college field hockey player with my same name. Meh.

Tonight some friends and I are having a blind taste test of a few pale ales. Mmmmm. 🙂

Awesome! When I went to my husbands company party, they had 4 ales for taste testing and two of them were from Montana, Moose Drool and Trout Slayer and one from Kansas, Buffalo Sweat. They were soooo good!

Ooh nice! I'll see if we can get those too!

:hello:

I haven't stopped in recently with the holiday and being sick all week, seems like I missed a bunch!

Those ales sound great. We have gotten stuck on Philadelphia Brewing Co. lately, the Newbold and Pennsylvania pale ales are great, but it's near impossible to find outside of Philly.

It's all about Settlers! I rediscovered this game last year, forgot how much I love it. I think I played for the first time in '02, but never since. The BF is not a games person, but I think if I wind up staying in Philly and there's enough interest, I might have to get a board for some SDN Settlers games!

New Year's resolutions... hmm. Well, yes, lose weight. Definitely would like to be in a shape that's not round when med school starts. Spend more time with my friends before med school starts. Read a book a week from my pile of books that are bought but not read (until med school starts.) Don't venture out into the pre-allo forums at large, because I get sucked into debates about stupid stuff like treating fat people like second-class citizens/non-humans.

I'm watching a Lifetime movie.

Let me save you the trouble of ever watching one again by telling you the plot of every single Lifetime movie:

Woman in a (marriage/relationship/friendship) is (abused/raped/belittled) by a terrible (husband/boyfriend/friend). She then spends the rest of the movie (getting up the courage to leave/leaving but then having said person find them), culminating in a climax where she finally fights back and is now free of said terrible person. The only variation on this is if the girl gets murdered or kidnapped, then her (friend/sister/child) goes through the above.

Well lucky for you you're going back to grad school, yes? 🙂

I'm excited. Having gone to an undergrad known for pretty girls, I feel like even with my averageness I can finally be a big fish in a small pond

New Years Resos:
-Get accepted to med school (pretty plz?)
-Start running distance again
-Make my dog less psychotic
-Break my habit of procrastination

Edit: Mauberley, please get an avatar. It hurts my head when regulars don't have avatars, and it seems like you're on your way to becoming a regular. 🙂

Thanks, Daisy. I feel fine. Just very frustrated at work. I'm so bored I think my brain is going to melt out of my ears. Well, there are other things too but yesterday that was the bulk of it.

Win!

Have you ever seen this?

But don't forget the plot about the woman who is bitter and alone because she focused too much on her career, and now she has a chance to find a man. They are in a relationship for a while, until her career calls her back, usually really far away from him. Then she has to choose: die alone, or sacrifice her career for what's "really important". Of course she sees the error of her ways and she and her new man ride off into the sunset.

OMG that Nicolas Sparks graphic is perfect.

Oh, and the new avatar is the black pug that I want to get and name Pfeffer (from the icebreaker about naming your next child/pet)
