Dear UVa,

Thank you for the rejection letter I found in the mail today. I have not heard a word from you in more than seven months. However, your decision to reject me was not received with the "disappointment" you believed. Actually, I am relieved not to have to learn how to shovel snow, buy a winter coat, or adopt inferior sports teams. I've also heard some people marry their cousins in some parts of Virginia. Come fall, I will be attending school in southern California. Here, we have beautiful beaches, 80 degree weather year round, the Chargers, the Lakers, in-&-out burgers, and attractive women in tank tops (yes, even in the winter!). We also have cheap in-state tuition, top 50 medical schools, and hospitals on the beach. In conclusion, eff Uva.

You should send that to the UVa admissions office. Tell them not to be disappointed and that it's "you, not them" (or however you want to phrase that).
 
Being from texas, I get the luxury of finding out where I will go to med school at 8 am tomorrow morning. Thanks to all of you for providing some fun and sharing my experience through this process of ups and downs. Guess ill change my signature tomorrow to include a specific school! Woohoo!

It's been a while since I've been to Texas, but I am really looking forward to chillin in Houston later next month. I feel like it might be a pretty cool place.

Dear UCSF,

Thank you for the kind note you sent me. Though you rejected me several months ago, I apparently was still in your thoughts. Why? Because you sent me this letter telling me about your new Post Bacc program. How did you phrase it again....oh, yes....it is "Especially geared toward unsuccessful applicants to medical school......"

You know what? You can suck it. You couldn't even bother to send me a rejection letter (I had to check my online status) but you can kill a tree for this crap?

May the gods of recycling have mercy on your soul.

That is truly effed up! Whoever is writing these rejection letters should also have to open our reply mail, Cougs 😉.

UVa's says they "realize this decision will be a dissappointment to [me]" ... uh... no, not really haha.

Edit: Also, nice touch with "smoochies" and "suck it." I might have to amend my letter.

Seriously though, the thing that really pissed me off about a couple of schools I got rejected from was the silent rejection. After spending the money and time on their applications, they don't even show the courtesy of sending an email, let alone an actual letter. You have to log on randomly to their obscure status website to find out, lo and behold!, you've been rejected after being under review for 6 months. GRRR!!

Meanwhile, I have like 14 schools I'm waiting on and I've heard nothing but crickets for the past month. I feel like my AMCAS app has fallen into a black hole and the gravitational pull has pulled all my secondaries in with it. 🙄

DUDE! Ducky, how in the hell did we not talk about Henry Cavill and the Tudors when we met up? I love that show (though I have only seen the first two seasons) and Henry... my goodness. He is #1 on my laminated card, man. Yowza.

Yeah, the whole match thing is pretty messed up. I know (think?) they've got a good reason to do things that way and keep people from holding on to multiple acceptances in the state, but it sucks that your fate is decided at a specific time. Ughhhh.

I think a lot of people in the match thread will end up getting in though, from what I understand about how good waitlist movement is in Texas.

I have no idea how this works. Can you be matched to more than one school at a time? I'm guessing not. That would be....idk. At least you guys have a heads up on residency match though (seems similiar?).

If I remember right, there were quite a few people who received info later in the day on match day (I don't want to get any false hopes up, though) and I know for sure that there was more movement later on in the months to come.

You can only match to one school, but you can still be on the waitlist for other schools that you rank higher... so it ain't over 'til it's over, unless you got your first choice.

Last year there were some glitches though with the lists being uploaded at different times (at least I think that was the explanation), which led to more spots being opened up as people moved on to their more preferred schools. It's been pretty quiet on the Texas Tech-Lubbock's thread for acceptances, though, so there might be another repeat of last year... :shrug:

Thanks....just one more question (if you don't mine). Do you have to participate in the match if you are from Texas? And can schools accept you outright or do they have to play the match (I ask because I noticed Cole has like three acceptances from Texas schools at varying times).

You can get pre-match acceptances. For example I got two pre-match acceptances, but once the match deadline rolled around (I think it was January 16th?) I had to decide which one I wanted and rank it above the other. At that point you can still rank schools you haven't been accepted to over your pre-matches without the risk of losing your offer.

that just makes my head hurt
 
Example:

School rankings
#1 - School I didn't hear from
#2 - School I got pre-match offer from
#3 - School I got pre-match offer from
#4,5,6... Other schools

If I don't match at number one I'm guaranteed an admittance to #2, but there is no chance of getting into #3 and beyond.

Other example:

School rankings
#1 - School I didn't hear from
#2 - School I didn't hear from
#3 - School I didn't hear from
etc.

If I don't match at number one, maybe I'll match at #2. If not, then maybe at #3. If not, then so on. If you don't match anywhere then it sucks, but you can hope to get a wait list letter from a school while other spots open up (someone who matched may decline their acceptance for OOS).

The funny thing is that I matched to the school whose thread had all of the craziness on it... 😛 Maybe they saw me defending them and pushed me up on the list post haste!

Haha, it was in the Texas Tech El Paso thread. Unfortunately (for entertainment value), the poster who came in and basically said that it was the worst medical school ever and listed his grievances went back later and edited everything out and apologized for sounding like a douche.

I'm still confused about the whole Texas match thing, but it sounds like today's the day people found out, so congrats to everyone who was placed. I hope you're all happy with where you end up!
