Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
On a side note, the guy who does the voice of archer looks a lot different than I pictured!

Dear FlowRate,

We have completed the selection of scholarship awardees for the entering Class of 2015 and regret to inform you that we are not able to offer you a merit-based scholarship. There is no doubt that you are a very highly credentialed candidate, but the sheer number of applications this year forced us to make some very difficult decisions.

Please do not interpret this as a lack of interest in you as a prospective student. We truly hope that you will still be joining our class this July!

If you applied for financial aid you should be receiving notice of that award shortly. Please feel free to contact Director of Financial Aid, at number if you have any questions regarding financial aid.

Warm regards,

Dr. Associate Dean for Admissions

Really? Because what you're telling me right now is that you're way less interested in having me attend your school than you initially made it sound. Thanks for that.

/just being silly, I think the doublethink rejection letters are getting hilarious/

The rejection letter from UCSF somehow made me feel better about myself for about 15 seconds. Case could learn a thing or two, IMO.

I'm not sure what exactly she said in what thread, but I can imagine...

WL'd at one school, denied the merit scholarship at another. Lots of other personal stress this week. ****.

Sorry Flow. Since bad things come in three, maybe that's all the bad stuff you're getting for a while? :xf:

On a side note, the guy who does the voice of archer looks a lot different than I pictured!

Now you made me look this up... I want to go back and pretend I hadn't seen him.

Ugh. That reminds me of this one time we went on a family vacation when I was younger. The TSA randomly selected my little sister, who was probably 6 at the time, for an in-depth screening. At one point they took her stuffed raccoon that she took with her everywhere and were poking and prodding it so much, it looked like they were going to rip its head off. My sister was trying so hard the whole time to be "grown up" and not to cry, but when they took her raccoon she just ended up bawling. So sad. 🙁

I've seen Godfather 1 but neither 2 nor 3. I've never seen Gone With the Wind, either. There are a few other classics I need to watch one day, too.

Gone With the Wind is also on my list along with Love Story.

Aww. I loved "The Big Lebowski." Among other things, it gave rise to a hilarious cleaning of a dirty line: "This is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps!"Maybe that's why I'm not getting any work done at the office.

Sorry Maubs. That's what happens when a movie is hyped up for me. I think if I'd accidentally watched it one day without the high expectations I might have enjoyed it more. Love Jeff Bridges though.

maybe we moved on from the whole "tablet pc" conversation...but I discovered this extremely lengthy/thorough forum thread on how to pick tablet PCs if you're really interested in getting one.

Thanks Jeepy. I'm hoping to pick something soon so need all the info I can get.

Sorry Flow.

Letters don't make anyone feel any better. I'd much rather get an email with a thumb up or thumb down. Just give it to me straight and get it over with.

Now you made me look this up... I want to go back and pretend I hadn't seen him.

I'm forcing myself not to now.

The TSA: Keeping America safe since 2001...

This is just disgusting. 👎thumbdown👎

It's been such a loonnng day 🙁. To quote an uninformed pre-med, "I can't wait for med school to start so I can finally relax"

Also, congrats dita!! 🙂

Torr, another post of yours reminded me that I completely overlooked the University of Phoenix when I was drawing up my list of schools to apply to. What was I thinking?! :smack:

Yes, you totally missed out Maubs. Highly regarded institution. I interviewed there (via Skype of course) but rejected post-interview 🙁.

I blame it on my crappy webcam 👎

I'd just take that as a sign you weren't meant to be a doctor. Time to consider another career path...

hey errrrybody, you're all a bunch of cupcakes

butter-lane.jpg

now with this image, Cougs, it is your responsibility to come up with characteristics of people, and apply them to each cupcake. following that, you must then put each member of the thread into one of the cupcake categories. understand?

American Chocolate
The traditional guilty pleasure. A little bit naughty....but you can still take it home to mom. Generally reliable, fun at a party unless they are underbaked, and appealing to all ages.
People in this category: cliffhuxtableDO, Torr, Pons

American Vanilla
Deceptively simple and elegant. But everyone who bakes knows that TRUE vanilla is a complex flavor, and the good stuff is hard to find. Gets along well with everyone who is reasonable, but has many hidden (and not so hidden) depths.
People in this category: Geeks, eablackwell , DuckGirl, juliedi, SFGuy, mauberley, BWSTW

Chocolate French
So weird...that the words are even in the opposite order from what you'd expect. A bit of a guilty pleasure, slightly odd, and an acquired taste.
People in his category: CougarMD, bleargh, MCAT guy, Suncrusher

Espresso
The ultimate in uniqueness. It doesn't get any sexier or racier than this. These are the people who bring all the other cupcakes to the yard....they would teach you, but they'd have to charge.
People in this category: DaisyB, medzealot, dbeast, whimsy

Cream Cheese
Comforting, loving, and reliable. Cream cheese has a shelf life that outlasts most other dairy products....and its human counterpart is much the same. A cream cheese will be your friend or lover for life, and will always be loyal to you.
People in this category: Asyouwereatrio, Longshanks, BBaller, JerseyGirl

Coconut
You either love it or you hate it. The "nut" portion of the name is no coincidence, but who doesn't love a nut? Tart and tangy in their opinions, and often chiming in with an unexpected contribution, coconuts are a must in every group of friends.

trogdor, you should tell me more about yourself, so I can accurately sort you into a house🙂

We need an icebreaker question.

We need an icebreaker question.

Here are a few to choose from, Trogdor:

1) If you were a comic strip character, who would you be and why?

2) What thought or message would you want to put in a fortune cookie?

3) If you had to give up a favorite food, which would be the most difficult to give up?

4) You've been given access to a time machine. Where and when would you travel to?

5) If you could be any superhero and have super powers, which one would you like to have and why?

6) What award would you love to win and for what achievement?

Note: these also work as interview prep questions

Cougs I'm just going to say it, if you don't put me in Ravenclaw we can't be friends anymore. 😡

...

...

😉
But seriously, put me in Ravenclaw

I'm in good company 🙂

Now we need a different kind of sorting... into HOGWARTS HOUSES!

Anything but Hufflepuff! I have stakes in all 3 others! 😀

I do have a disproportionate amount of Slytherin clothes though. I have to hide some of my hobbies when I go to med school. Between anime, fantasy, and video games I think I'm on par with a 12 year old.

We definitely are. 😀

This is exactly why. 😍

Here are a few to choose from, Trogdor:

1) If you were a comic strip character, who would you be and why?

Doc Oc, I need more working appendages. Can anyone say super surgeon?

2) What thought or message would you want to put in a fortune cookie?

You will find true love on flag day.

3) If you had to give up a favorite food, which would be the most difficult to give up?

I've already given it up for a diet. Pasta. Any type of pasta. Call me a cliche Italian, but I could eat pasta every day for the rest of my life and be happy.

4) You've been given access to a time machine. Where and when would you travel to?

Assuming I couldn't change history, seeing as God knows who all that would affect... I'd go back to the early 1900s and have a chat with Tolkien.

5) If you could be any superhero and have super powers, which one would you like to have and why?

Didn't we already have this question? Was I supposed to pick a character from the funny papers above? Oh well, Silver Surfer. He exudes awesome. I don't need a real reason.

6) What award would you love to win and for what achievement?

I'm not really crazy about awards. I have a few olympic medals, so I'm cool with that. I love working toward goals, but I don't need a medal. I guess the closest I can think of really is that I would LOVE to be published one day. Hopefully for doing something awesomely helpful for a bunch of people.
