Class of 2015!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Rereading this made me sad as I imagined a lonely Geekchick. I think this month I'm going to be very predisposed to finding everything sad.

No one emails you? I has a sad.
Yes, this month is going to be very strange. Today is two weeks til my last day of work - I think I get obsessed with "last" things when moving to a new stage in my life.

Also, ea, how could you?! Hehe. Gmail is one of my constantly open tabs except whenever work decides to randomly block it.

Same. Except four weeks for me. I has a sad.

Damn right!

I'm also pretty much done MY actual work so now I'm just puttering around doing whatever people need me to do. It's always mind numbingly boring busy-work that's been put off. Bah!

I've got lots of stuff over here you can work on if you like.

I just tried to ask my boss what I should be focusing on for the last two weeks. I love him, but I won't miss trying to get information out of him - you can't get a word in edgewise and the conversation keeps going and going without delivering all the information you need. At least I know there will be fresh fish in my future next week since he's heading out to the ocean.

Anyone else running into a ridiculous boss after giving your notice? I gave my job a 1.5 year heads up of when I would be leaving and now apparently she is saying that I'm leaving them hanging without any notice. Gotta love it. A year and a half apparently isn't early enough 😕

well on the upside you can tell her to fck off

That would require actually talking to her. She has been actively avoiding me for a few weeks now. I really can't wait for my exit interview...oh the fun I'll have.

No issues on my end.

Hee. :meanie:

+1, our whole lab and the lab next door is taking tuesday off to have a big send-off party 😀👍

Nice. Any excuse to take the day off is a good one. 🙂

At my office, we can't take whole days off, but we generally do lunches (that usually get paid for by the Company).

Haha. I've been largely responsible for managing my own transition plans (which were worked out with my previous manager), but that's because my new manager only started with us like a month ago.

Same. They just pout every time I mention that I won't be here much longer.

The reactions I get are mixed -- some are sad and some are jealous. 😉

If my old boss were still here, she'd probably be giving me a hard time and not in a good-natured kind of way. All my current coworkers are saying I'm not allowed to leave, but they are teasing me. I do believe I am getting a party next Friday. 😀

I don't have any coworkers and my boss is awkward.

5 days...

Orientation starts exactly a month from today. I had my first "OMFG What am I DOING?!" feeling this morning at that thought. :scared:

Ah yes...and it doesn't help that there's a new medicine sux thread going.

I am so glad that my school had a pre-orientation in June; remembering how awesome my classmates are and how excited I was to be there is definitely helping me get through the last month of work AND ease the apprehension.

For the past 2 weeks, since my coworker quit and my boss has been on vacation, I have been working by myself in a room made of cinder blocks on a floor without any windows. (Prison)

Samesies. Ohhh boy. 😱

Also, my last day of work was last Friday. This week I've gotten:
-1 email from a coworker asking me a question (already)
-2 emails from my boss about revising papers for publication - thanks for all the work I'll be doing while not getting paid

It feels like I'm still there!! I miss everyone already, though. Good luck everyone with their last weeks!

My postdoc likes to theme days of the week. He has dress-up Mondays because he thinks it starts the week on a professional note or whatever... and Fridays are apparently now Rasta Fridays. Reggae is currently blasting in my lab. I guess it does kind of take the sting out of being cooped up in lab on such a pretty day.

Multiquote time!

Google ads??

Wasn't there a Muffin thread about how he started some blog and was getting paid so well for it by ads or something? I don't remember exactly, but it had some lulz.

Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuys!
Taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalk!

I know, I've been so effing busy at work (and after work) the last few days my SDN/gchat/fb time has gone down. But I is here now!

Same. They just pout every time I mention that I won't be here much longer.

Yeah, I just get the pouting from coworkers/my boss too. One of my coworkers is such a hypochondriac, she keeps saying she's excited I'm gong to med school because she's just gonna call me up and tell me about all her medical "problems." And I think she's only half kidding.

Bahhhhhhh I know!!!!

Rasta Fridays!? Haha, that's pretty sweet.

Edit: Nice article on the front page of SDN there!

f and s are driving me insane. I guess that is the mark of a successful troll.

or just complete, unabashed idiocy

I feel like I shouldn't validate their trollness but responding to their idiocy, but they are just. So. Dumb.

So far today, UC Davis thinks I submitted a secondary, and UCSD thinks I am attending medical school there.

What is with today, today?

I've spent the last couple hours on SDN and have accumulated approximately 30-40 posts in that time. It's a Friday night.

What have I become?

A very bored incoming M1 waiting for school to start?

On another note, guidance like this used to be common sense. I miss those days.

When you ask your question, display the fact that you have done these things first; this will help establish that you're not being a lazy sponge and wasting people's time. Better yet, display what you have learned from doing these things. We like answering questions for people who have demonstrated they can learn from the answers.

and

You would be well advised to lurk there for a few days before posting to learn the local folkways (actually this is good advice on any private or semi-private list).

truly weird.

I wish mine was like that. Instead, my PI explicitly stated that I am to "not disappear, and hope you still come in after your vacation and while you're in school". lolwhat? It was an hour+ commute from my parent's place this summer, due to the craptastic traffic and construction, and that is when I was what should have been 30min away. Now she's expecting to me to make a 2-3hour commute while in school.

My grad school PI's lab was awesome like that, and threw a party for me when I was leaving.

It's odd that PIs end up in a leadership position because a large percentage of the time they have NO leadership skills, a lack of any true managerial qualities, and completely fail at personnel issues. Such is academia, I guess.

Happy 4th of July weekend! I hope everyone's having a lovely day. 🙂

Yup, I got that one too. Silly UC Davis.

It was. Sometimes late at night I wonder why I turned it down.

That's how I feel about USC occasionally. But as much as I would have enjoyed it there, I just couldn't pull myself away from Temple. I'm sure it's the same for you Cougs.

Aww, sorry Flow. At least you'll always have the internetz.

cole's blog is way fancier than mine. totally jelly.

Dude, you're going to Harvard. I ain't even feelin sorry.

...😍

Cole has a blog?

Indeed, I've been working on a blog on Wordpress but Wordpress is too advanced for my needs, so I moved over to Blogger. I guess bleargh saw the trackbacks to my blog. It'll be available for launch soon...

bleargh I can't touch your MS Paint skills. 🙁

Also, it appears that we have made the cycle turn: there are currently more people viewing the 2011-2012 threads than the 2010-2011 threads.

I feel old.

We've been close to that for a few days now, I've noticed. I just hadn't seen it actually happen yet.

Right now it flipped back to us having more views.

Regardless, group hug. We made it.
