Edit: in other words: be careful who is listening and what you attract attention to

Is this b/c you work in a slow dept. or are Wyoming hospitals just very slow? I have never gone to work at the hospital and had them say, "no sick people today, you can go home." 🙂

Edit: I hope they say that to me most days though... never happens. I also hope every patient I bring in for plastic surgery will be a 21 year old female there for breast augmentation... rarely happens haha

ICU just has strict admission standards and If no one meets ICU criteria, we have no Patients. If the general medical/surgical floor fills up, we will take overflow patients. slow? yes and no. we are a small(er) facility but we service a pretty big area and the patient population is rather complex.

I never get to go home. 👎

I had such an odd day. I'm seriously contemplating delaying till co 2016 again.. 🙁

Hm, learn something new every day. lol, yeah, at this rate unless I post every other minute I will never catch up.

Whimsy, if you didn't find it... your 17th and multiple 2014ers are a head of you. Plenty of time to fix it, but you've gotta step yo' game up girl 👍

Edit: ok i see you found it.

Oh no, now we can't let that happen. I might have to start following sports JUST so I can get ahead. Why yes there's a little gunner in me, why do you ask? 😉

Seriously, though. During shadowing with surgeons/anesthesiologists, I realized that they all talk about sports pretty much nonstop. And patients seem to talk about that as an icebreaker quite a bit. I'm gonna have to step it up!

:laugh: Yeah that is true. It always makes for good small talk.

The female surgeons, nurses, & anesthesiologists seem to spend a good amount of time talking about relationships too.

Both make for safer conversation than healthcare reform and politics.

Edit: I don't think it has to do with being a gunner... most of us are just type A personalities.

something changed. i think they added a couple more !!! to our title because Class of 2015 does not show up any more. PUNKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:ninja:

Nooooooooo! You need to nut up and do it or you'll just keep pushing it back!

Seriously.. I've never quite understood talking about some sports. I enjoy watching them, but jeez, I really don't care about x player's stats, I'm sorry.

That's what I get for being into skiing, martial arts, dance, and other such sports.

What other small talk can you make?

All this stuff about diversity is for a reason... people can get easily offended and you've got to mind your P's & Q's with some people.

Yeah, that's the thing - I'll watch football allll day (it's hard to avoid football if you were ever in marching band), and basketball's great. The only thing I hate to watch is baseball. Oh, and golf. But it takes a lot of energy to follow all that, and I don't think it would make me enjoy it more.

Oh, relationships. I wish I could talk about books or movies instead.

damn i figured i would have been higher up on that thread list...i guess i have more work to do

That's a good point. Lol while shadowing my doc told me to talk with a patient while he did minor surgery on the dude (to keep his mind off the surgery). I was like uhh.. okay... It was funny, cuz we had a great conversation going, and then when the doc said that, it was a lot harder to keep chattin' haha. (I kept it going of course... gunner status!)

Movies are okay as long as you keep it PG-13, methinks. I guess there is some chance of offending someone.

Although bashing someone's favorite sports team may be a worse proposition =P

 People get serious about that, especially in some cities. I'd be a little scared for my life.

Seems like a lot of girls like to watch golf when Tiger is playing :meanie:

I think movies and books are always acceptable conversation anywhere 👍

:laugh: You'll get there, a couple people at the top already fell off... geez hope that doesn't happen to me 😛

Way to get your patient care on [daps]

For me, when the doc says "talk" I gets to talkin!

I think you've just got to do it with one of these on your face ---> 🙂

IMO a little friendly rivalry sports talk is good for bonding

I've got to limit myself on SDN to staying in this thread... to many people out "there" are stressing on lame stuff. I'm glad everyone here keeps their game tight and doesn't stress on the small stuff 🙂

I agree. I like that 2015 keeps it chill and positive. There's plenty of time for stress once we get to med school. What's the point in losing sleep now?

Don't sweat the petty stuff!

And don't pet the sweaty stuff! 🙂

For me, I believe my ACMAS is all but done. I may had one more work/activity and they still don't have my transcripts (slackers!) and one of my letter still needs to get uploaded to interfolio and then I have to add them, then I can submit. If it's not ready to go by this time next week, I shall kill.
