Nordicat, that is terrible! Definitely document your narcolepsy. I hope they take it into account because no one would leave half of their exam blank! Even if you had no clue you'd write something down. Especially if they look at the first half and you were doing well and going to get a B or C, you'd know enough to pass the rest. Good luck and try to focus on what's ahead.

Mizzou = "Hey, you get 9 hours of D allowed total...EVER. 10 hours? You're gone! Oh, I'm sorry honey! You got an F? Poor baby...please pack up your shizz and proceed to the nearest exit. Don't come back."

You can appeal for readmission, but it does sometimes get denied. Then you can appeal to the Dean, then whatever he decides is what goes.

So, I was terrified I was going to fail Anatomy, Physiology. or maybe even both. I officially know that I got a C in Phys (juuuuuuuust barely!) and at LEAST a D in Small Animal Anatomy. And, I actually feel okay about yhe practical portion for once!

HOWEVER....our histo class has its own grading scale. Anything less than 68% is an F.SOMEONE had a sleep attack (I have narcolepsy, extremely well-controlled on medication UNTIL sleep-deprived and stressed at the same time. NOT registered with the disability services office for personal reasons [which, if I'm still here in January, I'm gettin' that crap documented!]) I had a nice low B going into that one....and FELL ASLEEP at the Microscope. Ran outta time, turned the damn thing in probably 75% blank :\ It's a paper exam, so still no clue what I got.

Took the written part yesterday (part computer, which means you see your grade immediately...and part paper). After that, if I assume that I received absolutely no points for either the rest of the written and zero on the practical, I now have 63%.

I think you see where this is going...
I may have failed out because of the ONE CLASS where 63 = F instead of a D like "normal." Because I freaking FELL ASLEEP during the practical. I e-mailed the professor that same night to inform him (not to ask to re-take or even finish the exam...just so he knew I wasn't blowing off his final and there was a legitimate reason for the blank spots!)

Guess who hasn't responded yet?
Guess who sent out an e-mail about ordering notes sets for next semester in the meantime?

Something may be going on with that...I'm freaking out that either A) It was passed on to higher-ups, B) I failed, but they aren't going to tell me until ALL finals are done (today), or I have NO idea.

I have seriously lost my ****. My eyes/face are permanently red and raw this morning. I couldn't study for Neuroscience last night. I tried- we're all pretty burned out, and my poor friends had to deal with me bursting into tears every hour or so.

The ONE CLASS I wasn't terrified of going into finals may have flunked me outta school.

So yeah...this Class-o-16'er isn't doing so hot at all. 🙁

Geez Nordi I'm so sorry to hear all that. Let's hope your grade pulls through so you don't have to worry about it. I'm sure you could speak with someone about what happened and get the issue resolved if need be. Definitely get your narcolepsy documented!

As for us being allowed to retake classes, we can, but I forget exactly how it happens because they changed their policy. I think we have to like appeal for it and things like that and you don't get an unlimited number of retakes.

Nope, no fall break, we get Homecoming off (1 extra day), but that's it. Last year the Christmas break was 11 days. This year we're spoiled with like 17 days.

The problem w/narcolepsy is that you'll do what they call "automatic behaviors"...hence still looking at slides, writing things down while "out". I could have put "purple people eater" on there and I wouldn't remember 😉 I may have filled it out with some truly crazy shizz.

I started writing in best-guesses, etc, at the end (of the practical)...literally looking at just the slide and guessing based on what I hoped was obvious stuff.

I hate the not knowing part...

The deans actually suggested taking a year off for medical leave to get my memory issues and newfound anxiety issues (mostly all medication and narcolepsy-related, of course) figured out if I pass first semester, or transferring to a school that doesn't do 8-week blocks. :\ I'm not doing a very good job handling stress...or studying...or balancing life and school.

The good that has come of this: I have learned that some of my classmates are truly amazing people and are EXTREMELY willing to lend a hand (I have gotten several study guides this past week!), and most of our professors will take time from their own busy schedules to help you out.

I guess we'll just have to see what happens next. Neuroscience practical & written today, then I'm done 🙂

I'm so sorry, Nordi. That's awful! Please let me know what happens - hope your other exams went okay!

Oh my goodness your guys' breaks suck. Our last real class final was Nov 21st, and our fun selectives finished Dec 7th. We go back January 7th, and had a full week off for fall break. I think I'd shoot myself if I only had a ten day break. o_o; I think we started a bit earlier than most, but still...

We actually started classes on Aug 8th. Remember we started on a Wednesday, but they made our classes start from the Monday schedule (Wednesday we had Monday classes, then Thursday we had Tuesday classes). Orientation started Aug 2nd. Thankfully we don't have to do that again.

Might have less break, but I liked how your school eased you into classes with just a couple classes at first then added more on over time, that would have been nice. We get 26 day break, but had all our classes from day 1. I think I would have preferred a little more transition time because up til midterms I had weekly freakouts wondering how I'd get everything done.

I won't get that kind of schedule til third year with electives. My schedule next semester is basically the same as this semester but lets add another two lectures and a lab to it. Any free time I thought I had just went bye bye.

I was really hoping Nutrition was going to be in the first quarter so that I could use the time I'm not in the class and go to the anatomy lab and work on the heads, but nope. Instead, I've added an additional elective (which doesn't sound like it will require too much outside of class time) and might possibly be working PT.

I don't think the job will be too much either, and it's something I can possibly continue over the summer. I just get to help care for the dogs for a department and make sure they get out for exercise and socialized during any point of the day. I have to do some other stuff in the morning, but it sounds fairly flexible so far but I'll be meeting with the professor when I get back to work out more of the details. Plus, it might lead to be me being more involve or something like that.


It's pretty much set, but we have some electives that are being offered. I'm taking Intro to Wildlife Medicine II (took I in the fall) and Global Health and Food Security, which I have no background in, but think it could be a good way to learn more. Plus, the one vet I shadowed said to just take as many electives as you can, since a lot of it will be encountered on your boards anyways. And I think it will give me more vacation time in 4th year if I want it. Second year they offer an equine course which sounds interesting as well as a animal welfare/lab animal course which I'll probably take as well.

True. It's kinda hard to study when I'm in break mode. I have my anatomy I final tomorrow and am starting to really freak out. I feel okay about the material but the amount of stuff I want to go over before then is increasing.....

You got this 👍. Schedules are probably one of those things where you always want the opposite of what you have because there is no "good" schedule for vet school. Just a little longer, I know you can do it!

We are in the exact same predicament. I have one final left and I used my limited amount of self discipline left studying for my 2nd to last final this weekend. I'm also crazy behind b/c it's histo, which I have taken before so I haven't gone to class since midterm. Don't judge, it's digital histo and like I said I've taken it before, so I just spent the whole time disrespectfully on the internet instead of paying attention anyways. But now I have to recall histo from 3 years ago by tomorrow. Darn you internet, screwing me over by distracting me during class and now when I should be studying!

We'll get through this Emiloo, we always do! Chin up🙂 One more day......

Just had a minor heart attack because I received an email saying a grade was posted. Histo in particular I'm really nervous about since anatomy isn't finished yet and I'd have had to get like a 51% on Biochem to fail the course. Luckily, it was just my wildlife elective where all I had to do was attend class and complete 3 worksheets.
