Class of 2016....how ya doing?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Health Certificate course is taking up wayy too much time. And we just got out take home test for a class that happens to be due essentially the same day as these as well as a ton of other online small assignments for another class. Oh and I have four finals next week (T-Th).

We can do it! :highfive:

(Provided I pass finals this semester....)
Yup, it's totally a struggle right now. I have six finals (start Monday) and I have yet to get through the material for any of them...whoops. Where did my motivation go?

Probably ran away with mine... I put out this flyer a while ago, still hasn't been found:

I also finished classes yesterday. Our last lecture was a great one, too- our derm professor is a very charismatic and comical man. 🙂 2 finals down, 5 to go! Then a night of drinking, followed by a day of driving back to Virginia. Glad my mom decided to fly up and drive us to VA because I am going to be hung over. I am super happy that I get to spend 6 weeks at home as opposed to the normal 3. My first rotation is an externship, which I am completing close to my home town. Lots of time to see my boyfriend before I am stuck in MI for 7 months straight..

Ugh same. I'm struggling right now to study for a final tomorrow that should be easy. Can't even imagine how tomorrow is going to go with my hardest final on Friday.

I just lost a nearly completed therio study guide... computer crashed, study guide gone (minus the first page, I still have that). 🙁

Yikes. I'm sorry. I had a similar thing happen to me first year but that was because I was clumsy and spilled gatorade on my computer. Lost everything going into midterms.

😱
That really sucks. I would have cried, a lot.

I am re-doing the study guide now.. just frustrated because the professor doesn't have well organize slides/notes so it took me forever to get to where I was. At least now I remember where some of the answers are.

21 lectures on basically diarrhea in large animals stands between me and break... and more importantly, alcohol. I just don't know if I can do it. Today might be the first day I drink an energy drink all semester.

Hah! Same here, except just diarrhea in horses...and only 11 lectures

Done with exams! One more semester left! (Tre jealous of you all that are starting clinics now 🙂 )

First recovery surgery on 2/12. Cue massive freak out...

HahahahahahahAHAHAHAHAHAhahahaaaahahahahahahahahahaahAHAHAHAAHAHahahahahaa

Sorry. That's for what's coming in the next year for you guys. I just couldn't stop myself.

Peace out.

(*LIS runs and hides*)

Oh you'll be fine. 🙂 Just remember that there are no right answers - there are only answers that are acceptable enough that they'll keep asking until you give a full-on wrong answer.

It's better just to answer the first question wrong so the questioning stops.

Do you guys still do terminal surgeries?
No, sorry, bad terminology. We've only done cadaver surgeries up to this point. This is our first surgery on a live animal (spay/neuter).

Day 1 of my large animal externship is tomorrow. The vet seems very nice and he even recognized the rally car on my desktop which made me grin. I am staying at the clinic in a small apartment above the barn. I am in a small town in ???? Virginia. (Really, I have no clue where I am and I lived in this state for 10 years). No cell phone service, no grocery store for 25 miles. I left my hair brush at home...looks like I will be doing my hair with a plastic fork tomorrow morning. Hopefully the gas station down the road has one I can buy.

I just can't get myself to do anything for school. I stupidly decided to take 5 electives on top of regular classes and accreditation modules that are due before we go to clinics. This semester is condensed and so it is even more important to stay on top of everything.

I love school, and the classes are interesting. But I just can't get started on anything. Hoping my trip to Orlando for NAVC will give me the break I really didn't have over December and then I can be productive.

We picked surgery days today! I'm going first!!!! Spay (most likely) on February 12!

Last day at my first externship tomorrow! It's been a great two weeks and I feel like I've become a little more confident. I still second guess myself a lot or just don't say what I'm thinking and then end up being right.

I really hate that

I'm finishing up the second week of my first rotation, one more week left. So far I have assisted in a pig spay, sheep forelimb amputation, and cat eye enucleation, helped pull calves, neutered a few cats, saw a lot of EPM and Lyme in horses, met a cute goat named Ned, performed an epidural on a cow, learned how to draw blood on a horse, got snotted on by a sinusitis case, got more comfortable with cow rectal palpation, and lots more. Tomorrow I am spaying a cat and neutering a few more.

Wasn't a specific class, just a cumulative exam of everything to test our knowledge at this point.
In theory, it sounds like a good idea. In reality, it's a brutal punishment for being a vet student.

Hey guys! I know its about 11 months away for yall, but someone posted about this on FB so I figured I would share!
Apparently VetPrep is offering an extended subscription to its study tools.. if you get a 6 month membership before march 1st they will extend your subscription until the end of the December Navle testing period for no additional cost! Great opportunity to get about 3 extra months of study materials !

Disclaimer - I am in no way affiliated with Vetprep! Just a friendly PSA!

Don't start studying for NAVLE until like, August. Otherwise, you will be suicidal before November. It gets old fast and it isn't necessary to study earlier than that - just do class work and it's probably relevant enough to count as studying anyway.

I'll let y'all know if I change my tune after NAVLE scores are released.

I agree that starting serious studying that early is probs overdoing it, but on the other hand, I did really like going through the food animal vetprep stuff while I was on food animal. I was also able to do some of the equine stuff while I was on equine, although I did considerably less equine than food animal. Also, when I was on neuro, it was just 4th years so one day we just rounded on vetprep questions.

This is fair. I start my first equine rotation on Monday, and my first food animal rotation 6 weeks after that. So I didn't get any of that to prep for NAVLE... maybe if I had, it could work out.

I say wait until you can buy the 90 day and get through December for free. Then you are paying what you would anyway and getting extra time too. Don't pay for a 6 month outright.

I have equine and food animal rotations in June/July, I'm not studying that early.

Meh, that's about when I had food animal and equine myself, but to each his own.
