Not open 24 hours a day for finals week?? What kind of library is it???!!

I'm in the med school library. The main undergrad library was open 24 hours for their finals week, which was last week. We don't have a finals week since we're in blocks, we just have a cell pathology/histology exam worth 60% of our grade on Thurs. The building is open 24 hours though, and we have a lot of small group rooms that we can use for studying, but I'm calling it a night when they kick us out. 😴

I got sabotaged by a bunch of wild trolls in a video game. I wish sector9 and other mods intervened and punished them. 🙁

and the med school library is restricted due to... undergrad privileges... like the gym access.

agreed. one thing medical school has taught me is that I am full blown addicted to caffeine. And there is no hope of kicking the habit.

Lol the week before our anatomy final, I wasn't sleeping well so I decided to cut down on caffeine. Nope. That lasted for one day, then the headaches began 🙁

dang, do you have a mic? You could do what I do and yell obscenities while cursing their mothers and questioning their intelligence and/or life choices? Seems to work pretty well on the xbox...

:laugh::laugh: It's an online game, but I said some odd things which I'm not known to say in the SDN forums...

Nah the med school library always has these hours, closed at midnight on weekdays, 10 on weekends (maybe to force us to go out and have fun?). They're actually open through winter break too, except for Xmas and New Year's.

We share the library with the dental and pharm students, so when undergrads invade during their finals week, it gets really bad. It's the only "silent" library on campus, but for some reason the undergrads don't get that memo despite the abundant signage.

I have been there. I had to start an anti-depressant for anxiety and I take melatonin most nights. It has changed my life, no joke. I would lay down at night and worry ALL night, like get two hours of sleep for weeks on end. I just try to stop drinking coffee 4-5 hours before bed.

I was looking into melatonin. I just can't turn my mind off when I go to sleep. It doesn't matter if i stop drinking caffeine early, or do something mindless like watch TV or read before bed, or use earplugs. I'm often worried about something or just thinking. Really annoying when I have to wake up at 6.

lol, good luck.

we only need you to pump in about 15k and maybe get three others to do the same.

nah... all we need is a combination of cinclus/cuttingcorneas/megmurry/nymphicus/minerva/me/tiedyeddog/whatyousay/sector9/ismet/jesse...

aw who cares!

I'M ON FIRE! LET'S GET THE THREAD ROLLING

I do the exact same thing. I sleep 1 hour before my MCAT because I just couldn't force myself to shut off. My mind just marches on. I used to wake up in the middle of the night in a dead panic, too. Like during test week I would wake up at 4 in the morning two nights before freaking out because I thought I was late for the test.

Starting an SSRI has dramatically increased my life quality, you might consider asking a doctor to start one if you're still having sleeping issues. It really, really helped with anxiety. My sleep is sooooo much better.

isn't melatonin one of those "miracle drugs"?

The night librarian cracks me up. He walks around every 10 minutes after 11:30 to tell us that "the library is closing soon." Except he mutters so it's "lbrrys clsng sn"

ME TOOOOOO 🙂

I full-out dressed up as Katniss for the midnight premiere of the first one. 😀 Orange backpack and toy bow and everything.

haha, that's awesome.

I loved the books and thought the first movie was pretty similar to the book, hopefully the 2nd movie will be the same.

haha, what miracle drugs???

it's normally found within the human CNS and controls the circadian cycle.

right... i read somewhere that melatonin is one of those "silver bullet drugs" that essentially can cure so many diverse ailments...

sorry for sounding like a noob, but antihistamine = anti-inflammatory, but antitryptamine = death?

The night librarian also really likes to come around and push in the chairs so they touch the desks. Sometimes I move a chair out a centimeter to see if he'll notice. He does. 🙂

Once I actually fall asleep, I'm fine. I sleep through anything (thanks to the helicopter that used to fly past my window 5-6x per night 2 years ago) and have to set 3 alarms to wake up in the morning. I think my issue is more with circadian rhythm, or lack thereof. I'll bring it up with my doctor though, see what she says.

I've also been looking into light boxes - a few people in my class got them and love them. Pittsburgh winters are notorious for Seasonal Affective Disorder, and I notice a distinct change in my mood in the depths of winter. They're mad expensive though, and technically all they do is correct melatonin levels.

actually, I do remember a professor citing a study for us saying that melatonin was found to increase survival in some cancer patients? Something about the sleep cycle is anti-inflammatory or some crap like that...

are these the art boxes you're talking about? http://www.amazon.com/s?rh=n:12896801&ie=UTF8&psrk=light+box

I'd be interested in getting one.
