Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm the passenger! I'm oh so slow on this thing. And it smells like cows in the beautiful central valley, so I'm distracted. 😀

Interview invite to Pitttttt 😀

Congratulations! 👍👍. I'm so jelly I'm almost jam. What is the difference anyway?

BTW, did you get an e-mail or did you just check the application page?

i'd be careful, though. i hear pittsburgh is haunted with the ghosts of bad baseball players past

Mysterious as the dark side of THE MOOOOOON!!

that's what she said?? no, probably not...

anyway, this whole posting fragmented thoughts on forums is not helping my writing style as i stare blankly at a 1000-character-long PS

anyone else assume they would have been the most productive, accomplished person ever if only they had been born 50 or so years earlier?

Yeah. Lots of times I'll be on the verge of thinking that I've actually done some cool things with my life, and then I remember there are millions of other people who have accomplished way more than I have. If this were 1960, I'd be a total prodigy. Today, I'm pretty average.

amen. but what can you do? these birds... they're just so angry

douchey question: is an offer of a collegiate athletic scholarship worth putting down if it was not accepted?

Urr.... I guess if you don't have anything else to put (or if you have one section for general awards)

Here my friend, I have written your PS for you.

"I grew up in a low income area in Philadelphia. I was a good kid, but I was always getting into trouble with some local hoodlums in my neighborhood. Eventually it got so bad that my mother sent me away to live with my uncle, aunt, and cousins in Bel-Air, California. My uncle was a judge and very fat. I often saw his medical problems and was intrigued by the physiology of the cardiovascular system. My cousin Carleton is a very uptight guy, but very nice. His efforts to get into Princeton (Uncle Phil's alma mater) inspired me to work hard in life. Finally, it was really an incident with my butler Jeffery that showed me I belonged in medicine. Jeffery was insolent and quite liberal with insults. Still, he had a good heart deep down. One day a kid showed up and said that Jefferey was his father and needed money. It ended up that this was a con artist, and that they were not related. That incident turned me on to genetics, and I've never looked back since. I know that medicine is my true calling. Oh yea, and I have a hot, ditsy cousin that does the weather."

Noooo...I'd managed to go three solid hours without playing that game and now that you reminded me about it I'm going to have to beat some more levels. 🙁

I went through and edited for grammar mistakes. That was all stream of consciousness. Re-quote me so I don't look like a common dandy.

I was personally told never to get a letter from someone without a doctorate. Except for the University of North Dakota, which actually requires a letter from a friend and/or colleague, I don't think a letter from a buddy currently in med school would be worth a lick. It's unfortunate, but there's too much potential for bias-induced truth-stretching.

I don't think Adcoms will take the word of a med student over those of professors, doctors, and people in managerial positions as far as when it comes to whether or not you'd be a good fit. Besides, isn't that what the secondaries and interview are for? I guess it wouldn't hurt to have one, but they should be only considered after you've found the basic 3 letters the school requires.

yeah maybe, I'll ask the students and see what they think.

also nadaba your stats are stupid

that is all

Seriously, this is a thread for the wannabe gunners, not actual gunners. here's hoping that I get a 42 MCAT score and get into Harvard on full scholarship just to spite you.

there are two guests here, show yourselves

I saw the cry for more estrogen....

HEY EVERYBODY! back from no wifi land 🙂

How's everyone doing? My app is behind and I need to start restudying 🙁

This is definitely one of my pump-up songs. I'm guessing the reason I did poorly on the mcat was that I didn't listen to this song on the drive there 😛

Back, just to say that Step Brothers is one of my favorite movies of all time!

Sorry I left you hangin Smiter 🙁 I went to bed at 11, dunno why it said I was on here still.

Me too. But I am pleased to say that this thread has gotten so much awesomer since my last lurking. I was supposed to take the MCAT last week, but let's just say I had a weeeeee nervous breakdown 🙂whistle🙂 and now I'm taking it next month. Helloooo late application :smack: and back to learning about the bacterial sex pilus for me 🙁

Recalculated my GPA and found out that it sucks. Eff my undergrad for making things so hard/unfair. I'm sure Vandy can relate haha

Yay! I'm glad you're back! 😀 You're going to kill the MCAT this time, I know it.

It's totally one of my favorite songs of all time. 😍

Don't get me started. I'll complain until sundown. One prof told us that he encourages participation. I raised my hand every now and then in his class to comment, but wasn't super vocal. At the end of the semester I found out that 4% of our grade was participation, and he gave me 0 out of 4. Goodbye A-. I have plenty more stories where that came from.

My cell bio prof was ridiculous. Each exam had about 600 detailed slides of info on it and they tested the most minute details. I was doing fine on them, until the final. She had 1/4 of the cumulative final over two articles that we spent 30 minutes in class discussing, amidst the other 2000 slides we had to know. Needless to say, I did not do well. asdfkljasdflkajsdf I think that class dropped my gpa's by .1 in itself

That sucks. My GPA was mostly lowered by a bunch of B's. Some were unlucky like the class I discussed earlier, and some were tough classes that I did above average in but couldn't break into the top 15% (yes there are strict cutoffs for many Vandy pre-req classes). Examples being Orgo II, Bio II, Physics I. Didn't help that I got a C+ in Calc I and Gen chem II as well. Oh well, too late now...🙂

Edit: 1,000 posts!!!! :highfive:
