Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You seem really torn up about it.

I wouldn't draw attention to it.

But then I'll have nothing to say... :🙁

I could use it as a "Why ______?" (school-specific) explanation, but apparently some schools don't actually like that

Yea, that might look a little suspicious. You might have been automatically disqualified.... :ninja:

Edit: Just so you don't think I'm a serious gunner, I will write you a PS 🙂

👍

I'll update my MDApps when I submit my application. I wouldn't hold your breath, though. I teach master classes in procrastination.

Speaking of which... in a secondary "anything else" essay, would it be wise to attempt to justify a C+, or is it better just not to draw attention to it? I don't want to seem.... like I am really torn up about it.

Is your overall GPA high (3.6+)? I used that essay to describe my difficulty adjusting to my transfer to Vanderbilt and how I adjusted accordingly. If you have all A's and one C+ I would not call attention to it.

Well, then well give them a perfect PS. Here we go sir:

"My path to medicine was not the typical one. In my younger years I had some really interesting extra-curriculars unrelated to medicine. I was involved in an amateur sleuth gang, and we often solved some intriguing mysteries. It was through these sleuthing activities that I realized my passion for helping others. My gang included two girls- Daphne and Thelma-, a man named Shaggy, and our dog. We were often given cases that truely tested our intellectual abilities, and this really helped give me a knack for analytical thinking. Daphne was a pretty blonde though, and I often was distracted by her bangin' figure. Shaggy and our dog were often very talented at solving crimes as well, but only if we laser-beamed some snacks into their mouths. Eventually they both developed many health problems due to over-eating Scooby Snacks (Obesity, type-two diabetes, etc.). This sparked a passion in me for scientific research involving nutrition and diet. If it weren't for us meddling kids I would have never known my true calling in medicine."

I thought Daphne was a red-head.

That is... actually disturbingly similar to the way that I started off my original PS :scared:

Glaring flaw - Daphne was definitely a ginger.

I wouldn't mention it. It's a passing grade.

My cGPA is a 3.67, but my sGPA is a 3.51 or something around there. I did, however, increase my GPA each year I was in college, but that's obviously something they could see just looking at my transcripts. I definitely had some organizational issues going on (went to a disgustingly easy high school that did nothing to punish lazy behavior), and I felt like I was able to adapt fairly quickly after some initial difficulty. I don't know though... just seems so cliche.

So, no... not all A's. One C+, a B- or 2, and then I ran the gamut up into the A range. Unfortunately some of these lower grades were in prereqs.

Did you ever write a Why ______? essay if not explicitly prompted to do so?

Ok, that's not bad. Yea, some of the lower grades are in the pre-reqs for me as well (A bunch of B's and a C+ in gen chem II. The only pre-req I got an A in was orgo interestingly enough). These are by far the hardest classes at my school though (not counting engineering classes or a particularly painful genetics class), and often have intense grading curves/cutoffs.

I always wrote the optional essay, but that is because of my particular situation. I was not academically prepared either, and my first year hit me hard. Seeing your situation though I would not call attention to it. Despite what you hear on here, a few B's and one C+ is not the end of the world, especially when you're above 3.6 anyway.

My tivo didn't tape the new Futurama OR Childrens Hospital OR the Simpsons. FML.

The Internet.

Use it, my friend.

Children's Hospital is so weird. I'm stuck between  and 😕 most of the time.

I know... but I want to watch it on my TV 😀

Childrens Hospital is so ridiculous but so amazing.

Childrens hospital? I must say, I have never heard of it, but the name is so captivating, I must watch it one day!

HOLY **** I'M MAD. I was writing four short essays for a secondary, and it signed me out, so when I clicked "Save and Continue" I was no longer signed in and nothing was saved....

Just came back from an awesome food truck festival. It was nice getting some sun after being cooped up studying for a few days. Wish all of you foodies could have been with me!

That happened to me on my primary too 🙁 I would this intricate, in depth explanation of a meaningful experience and it didn't save. It's the only work and activity i have left to fill out, just because I can't bring myself to write it again 🙁

That sucks. I wrote each short essay in word to have spelling mistakes corrected, and then deleted after I completed each one. I had them sounding just as I wanted too...

I'm re-doing it now, but not in as good of spirits lol.

Ugh that really sucks. That happened to me on my primary more than once filling out the work/activity section.

This conversation was a page ago, but I'm totally scared about having very little research. Tons of clinical, but I feel med schools prefer research heavy applicants to clinical heavy applicants. 🙁 I just need to get into ONE school though, and I'm not even applying to any top 20 schools. I'd rather just not apply to them then get rejection emails from them.

I'm a little scared about this too-- the only research I've done is the REU that I'm doing this summer. And I'm not extremely clinical-heavy either. Really I'm worried about everything but my gpa. I just want to get in to my state school! :luck:

Are you going to be in a yellow jumpsuit?

lol, i didn't get the kill bill reference at first either. great movie, though..

rather, i thought you were trying to influence my wardrobe decisions so as to give yourself ample opportunity to take evasive maneuvers. but i wouldn't be much of a hunter if i were fluorescent, eh?

and i'm research-heavy but lacking on the clinical end, so naturally i assume that schools only value clinical 😀. It all depends on the school to be sure, and clinical experience is a better reflection on the medical professions than is ejaculating frogs anyway. <-- great movie clip, and also my life my junior year 🙁

I just want to get into my state school too! Wish I was from Ohio and had like six state schools, but then I'd have to be from Ohio.

So did you have to make the frogs ejaculate?

Anyone else feel a little inadequate after reading the ralty specials?

Don't get me wrong, keep them coming, ralty. They're great, but they make me feel lacking in areas (research obviously and now I'm concerned about the strength of my clinical experience as a result of that last ralty special).

Any ralty specials on work experience? That one would make me feel 😀

Haha, sorry! If I knew about the group earlier I would have shared it then. I don't know about work experience, I can check. Only a few specials left, I am almost out of info 🙁

I like being a big fish in a small pond :meanie:

Same here. It's how I got paid to go to school. :meanie: :meanie: :meanie:

THEY HAVE FOOD TRUCKS IN THE MIDWEST PH?!?!?!?!? 😍

Typing out responses in word or textedit before cutting and pasting helps.

Yup! I'm obsessed with food trucks. I find that their food goes above and beyond any restaurants, since they're so small. There's a few in Ohio but I bet there's a ton in Chicago!

I just want to get into my state school too! Wish I was from Ohio and had like six state schools, but then I'd have to be from Ohio.

Hey now! I go to school in Ohio 🙁 Well I can't really be upset, I have the benefit of Illinois schools and semi-Ohio schools haha.

Also, I have lots of clinical research. Best of both worlds? I hope so.

I did clinical research on myself once. Does that count? When I broke my leg, I would take differing amounts of codeine and see how much of my body weight I could support on the bathroom scale

Research is boring.

Ejaculating frogs seem like an interesting topic. Discuss in your PS.

Ohio sucks. Go to Texas.
