Class of 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Nice! I gave up an amazing internship to retake the MCAT. I just offered to do the same job without pay because I really want to work there, so hopefully they'll see my motivation and give me the paying job😀

Other than that, working on my thesis and doign this gig where I teach the incoming med students at my school!

yeah since my project was last minute (incredibly lucky to even have a chance) there is no funding, but I really don't care for money....hook a brother up with some publications and poster presentations 😀

We're given extra 1325 characters to write about our 3 most significant experiences, but I'm not sure if I have anything else to say about them. Would it be weird to leave them blank?

Anyone else thought about this?

Ladies and gentlemen, I have now started my application. :scared:
Not only am I scared $hitless, but who would've thought it's THIS long!😱
time to get my transcripts together.
Taking an EK verbal test in a bit. Hoping I don't make the mistake (again) of picking the WRONG answer when I'm down to two (yeah, 4 away from a 10).

:hello: hope you all are taking it easy and don't forget to get the margaritas! (beer, if preferred, of course) 👍

EDIT: I also just deemed myself disadvantaged, despite the fact that I'm Indian (yeah, I know it doesn't give me any URM status). Still, we'll see how long I can ride this train.

everything done except entering the activities... which is going to be a pain in the butt.. and the PS.

Today, my best friend goes, "Hey, AMCAS just opened up. Thought I'd let you know. Also, when does the Caribbean app system open? We all know you're destined to do great things at Ross." 🙁
I almost attacked his region, before he reminded me that I'm always putting myself down and saying I'm going to end up at the Caribbean, anyways.
Then he proceeded to buy me some amazing in n out animal style fries. I'm a happy girl 😀

man, transcripts are a pain in the ASS!

In other news, I held onto my A in Ochem2. Beers on me tonight, ladies and gents.

I'll start off with a pint of Chimay please. I loves my Belgians 😀

bottle, I'll get a round of tequila shots if I squeeze out A's in my two classes I had exams for today😎

Here's hoping for those A's 👍 (and its totally because I want you to do well and not for those tequila shots 😉 )

I have friends that say I should apply to Caribbean schools too, and I keep telling myself that I don't want to sell myself short, but my stats are definitely going to make this an uphill battle. All the more reason why I need to rock that MCAT.

Here's to spending my Cinco de Mayo studying (and sober 🙁 )

who does what this summer? research here. :d

as of right now, just continuing my job as an ABA therapist for kids with autism while I see if I can get into this stem cell research program at my school. And filling out those secondaries of course 🙂

Just started my app, it is a monster! And yet I'm still pretty excited. Transcripts are going to be a pain in the butt; I have to have help from in the states and relying on others is so not my strong suit!

I toasted the end of freedom/opening up of our future with an ice cold diet coke that another volunteer friend brought to Benin from France. It was probably the best thing I've ever tasted! haha

My goal is to get my transcripts ordered today or Monday at the latest. With less than stellar stats and the fact that I am only available for interviews during the month of October...well, I need to be getting my app in super early.

In other amazing wonderful news, I just got the email from the fee assistance program people: APPROVED! This means 14 free schools which means that I can actually apply! Yay!😀

So happy to find this thread ... 4 more finals and completely donezo .. and then MCATS

It seems like the AMCAS' application website was developed by some who really don't know about software development!.. Man, why each time you have to choose the state, and then school, and then LORs to add to them, such and such!.. It's be much easier to be able to choose first the states by clicking on them, and then see the list of all schools in those states all at once, and then select among them... Also, it'd be great to assign the LORs to all/group of them, instead of editing each school one at a time... You cannot edit any evaluation letter request once you entered, why?.. This app is quite out-dated!... Yes, I said it...

I would not leave them blank. Gives you an oppurtunity to tell more about why the experience is important to you and how you grow through it. Gives you a prompt when you click the most meaningful box that says:

This is your opportunity to summarize why you have selected this experience as one of your most meaningful. In your remarks, you might consider the transformative nature of the experience: the impact you made while engaging in the experience and the personal growth you experienced as a result of your participation.

If you do not have anything to respond to that and feel you did so in the 700 characters above selecting your tabs they would question if it was really that meaningful for you. No way I can get my 3 most meaningful explained in 700 characters. This section really shows who are and your character, some important things to show-off.

EDIT: I also just deemed myself disadvantaged, despite the fact that I'm Indian (yeah, I know it doesn't give me any URM status). Still, we'll see how long I can ride this train.

Haha, good luck with that!

My take on this is if they're giving you more space to expand on the experience, expand on it. But if what you'd be adding is essentially fluff, it's probably in your best interest not to.

and mcat. dontgiveupnow!

who does what this summer? research here. :d

Research here too...hoping I'll have an  moment

so, while i was entering my course grades into AMCAS, for the first time since high school (6 years ago at this point), i had a fleeting, vague memory of having enrolled in some stupid college now program my senior year of HS...

i literally had forgotten completely about it. i don't think i even included my record when i applied to college.

i think i signed up for some government course. i pray to GOD it was only one course...
because what i did was i signed up, and then got the syllabus and said "not interested" and then i DIDN'T DROP OUT. i think i stayed signed up because i didn't even know what dropping a class/withdrawing/etc meant.

so i called up the college and lo and behold they have a transcript for me, but i have to wait a few days for it to get to my parents house and for them to open it up.

i swear to god, if it is an F, i will cry. it takes my overall GPA from a 3.689 which i call a 3.69 (which is a freaking 3.7) down to a 3.61.

seriously. this is ridiculous. i wish i just hadn't ever remembered. it wouldn't have even been lying. it literally has never occured to me once that i even would have a record of this registration.

seriously, why don't they warn HS kids about this?! and why isn't there an auto-drop policy for students who never even show up to the class?! i know no med school will give a crap about this but they have no idea that i didn't attend the class. for all they know i was just really bad at government and failed!

is this something you would put in that "explain anything on your application that you feel needs explaining" box?

UGH why is this happening to me.

Same exact situation, but it was a 2 unit so the GPA damage is not as bad as yours. It was an online creative writing class from an extension school. I looked at the first assignment, said... what? This doesn't look like fun. So I never turned anything in, totally forgot to withdraw, read the AMCAS instructions 3 years later, learned I'd need to submit the grade, and found out it was an F. I am doing everything I can to get the grade changed.... to anything. A W, a Pass/Fail Fail, since that doesn't count toward GPA, a No Credit, an Enrolled No Work Submitted, even a UW, since although that counts for GPA, at least it's obvious that I didn't actually take the class.

Ugh. I suggest you do the same. Try everything you can to get it removed. Failing any possibility of getting it changed/withdrawn, definitely explain it on your application. That's my plan at least.

It sucks.

same deal, actually there was twice I did it. Once during the summer between junior and senior year I took a speech class at my JC, I did alright in it so that doesn't bother me. It was the calculus class I took the summer after graduating though, I didn't even bother doing anything in it because I was all like "I'm going to a real college in like a few months, I'm just doing this to pass the time" and ended up with a D. Didn't think it meant anything, especially because I took it at my college and did far better but it still shows up on my transcript from the JC.

This is ridiculous and they're just going to see the grade and not really know that we were just naive little kids that didn't know any better. And it totally sucks.

So many posts and I missed the alcohol discussion. 🙁

Anyways, thanks to this thread, I actually remembered an English class that I took at my high school, but it was administered through a JC. That's another transcript added to the list.

The main reason I don't understand this is because if they were are three most significant experiences is, chances are they also appear on our personal statement. It would just be redundant to include them there if you've already spent so long talking about them on the statement. I guess you could always copy/paste them from your personal statement

Also, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see ANY place on the application to explain anomalous grades. Obviously I don't want to discuss one random 2 unit, online, pre-freshman year, random extension school creative writing class F in my personal statement. I know that some secondaries will provide space for explaining it, but it's not like I want to bring it up there, either. Is there seriously no like, 250 character little tinyyyy box for a one sentence explanation of something? 🙁 Ugh!

This is what I was thinking. Two of my significant experiences are explained pretty well in my PS.

My activity descriptions are pretty short and to the point. I might just use the extra space for some narrative stuff. Probably won't use all 1325 characters.

I just got a B in astronomy 101 when I had a A before finals.... arrrgghhh lol

I want fries cooked in duck fat. 🙁

Sucks, broski. On a happier note, did you enjoy the class material? Did you get to talk about black holes? If I had to pick one topic that interests me most in astronomy, it would be singularity that one. :meanie:

My "most meaningful" chose themselves by default (i.e. there was no way I was fitting any sort of description in only 700 characters). I don't know if I would really define myself by these three activities tho.

...So it goes.

it was interesting but the section on dark matter/energy did me in... slightly ironic

I'm so glad that AP courses don't play a role in GPA calculation.

Frazier are you one of us? That would be exciting 🙂 Still remember this convo we had a year ago 😛

this thread asks if statistics counts toward sciGPA.

you are all answering whether statistics counts toward BCPM.

Answer fail. Statistics is not included in sciGPA
READ'EM AND WEEP FRAZIER

Unfortunately, you are incorrect. Reanalyze my response. I was replying to the issue of "you're not very likely to take statistics from the history department."

To which I said he was "incorrect", for I had proof of such a history department course concerning statistics.
You looked beyond the scope of my actual intent.

READ 'EM and WEEP, WUbear!

🙁

Play again tomorrow after school? I got a new football. 🙂

EDIT: tomorrow is Saturday. NO SCHOOL! YIPEE! We'll go fishin down by the fishin hole instead.

Well guys i'm about to hop on the AMCAS bandwagon! I had a poster presentation, for which I was selected to do an oral presentation, yesterday - my PI grilled me all week with the poster and the presentation. After finishing that at 3PM yesterday, I had 18 hours to prepare for two midterms today 🙁 Knocked them out, and just wrote the paper I had to write due 11:59 PM tonight 😀 hooray temporary freedom! I'm back 😎 Thanks to everyone who wished well when i said i was burned out

Good luck everyone :luck:

Hey guys, I have a question. I got credit for Bio 1 and 2 from my AP exams, but I retook the classes in college. In my college transcript, all credits show up (Ps and As). However, I am confused whether I should include all of them on AMCAS. Any thoughts?? THanks

email you registrar that you decline those AP credits. That's what I did with my physics credits.

instead of going out I decided to make a strong captain and coke and watch the wire to chill after a tough week

Good luck! I think I would rather take those finals than pack right now. Taking the bus home tomorrow and I can't fit everything in one suitcase 🙁

Joys of being a girl and overpacking! do you live in chicago, go to school in chicago, or your boyfriend goes to school in chicago? haha sorry! so confused😳

Also, good luck, YNK! rock it!!
are you sticking with the 26th?

So to keep our minds off of MCAT prep, finals studying, and AMCAS filling, how about those Lakers? I may be from Cali, and currently residing in SoCal but I'm not a Lakers fan in the slightest. thoughts on their inevitable sweeping?

thanks! I'm going to take a FL next thursday and decide from there...

I love kobe (HATE LEBRON, if you like LBJ then we are longer friends)...so it's ridiculous to see the Mavs up 3-0....though Dirk is reallllly good

twinsies!

I have always been a Lakers fan, and my boi is Pau Gasol 😍
Honestly, I'd like to think they're hustlin' and are suddenly going to come out winning in the end. Girl can dream 😀
Ugh so close in the mavs game 🙁 😡

I like Lebron even less than Kobe, especially after his whole decision thing. Such a huge ego for someone without a championship ring.

Being a lifelong Bulls fan/growing up admiring Phil Jackson as a coach, it definitely pains me watching his Lakers lose such close games this series. Gotta give props to Dirk and the Mavs, but I was hoping Phil would have a better end to his amazing coaching career.

Either way, Derrick Rose is going to do work the rest of the playoffs. Looking forward to an entertaining Bulls/Heat matchup next round!

I HATE THE LAKERS. Longtime Kings fan here (yeah, yeah, I know). Unfortunately, living about 15 blocks from the Staples Center, this is a huge point of contention between me and pretty much everyone I know....grrr.

I've been a long time lurker in these forums. Excited to finally be able to post to a 2016 thread 🙂. I'm jealous of everyone at semester schools that are finishing up the year. I've still got 6 more weeks to go in the quarter 😱.

Good luck everyone
