Dude I just added my list of schools to AMCAS and AACOMAS = over $1000 in fees for 26 schools. That is balls.

I'm def gonna have to apply to fewer schools...

I'm at 755$ for AMCAS.... and this is before secondaries or interviews. This whole process just blows. I'm actually sort of surprised that I'm willing to pay this much $ just for a chance to write a zillion more essays... so I can pay more money to fly out to get grilled for a day, so I can pay huge $ to get a degree in a field that is changing so rapidly my pay might only be enough to pay back my loans with help from the federal government. Maybe I shouldn't look at the big picture... that was a little scary. Uff. 😱 Good thing I actually LOVE medicine. This just isn't worth it other wise.

Just called the admissions office at Northwestern, which is my top choice. They said that if I take my MCAT in July, my file won't be reviewed until October. Plus, they seem to love applicants who have had out of country/cultural experiences, of which I only have a week. Not to mention I pretty much have to get a 34 to be even considered and my GPAs are lower than their average.

I think I'm gonna cry....🙁:cry::cry:

Really? I got the written test in 10-15 minutes with 100%, and scheduled for a driving test on a particular date and time. When I got there, there were enough instructors waiting for anyone at that specific time. Back in 2002...

Don't be sad, you'll find a school in which you're already perfect for instead of having to try to fit in somewhere else, and you'll be all the better for it 😍
 
Aww thanks guys. It's just hard since it's been my dream school since I was like 5 years old. I wasn't good enough for them in college, and now for med school. Who knows, maybe I WILL get a 34+ on my MCAT and my application will blow them away. There's always hope!

don't count yourself out, just because they won't review you until oct/avg mcat is ~34 doesn't mean you don't have a chance.

My school list is going to get cut down to about 10-15....I want to apply everywhere but I just have no business applying to some schools, gotta face reality I guess.

In MCAT news I tried to start translational motion, kept getting distracted so I'm taking a break and going to watch the wire...go back to MCAT studying until the game tonight. I seriously think I have ADD

Me too...I'm a few chapters into BR physics, but I just can't focus 🙁. Writing my personal statement is more fun and I've been focusing on primarily that and apps. I guess we just need to realize that without putting in this time, there IS no med school

True enough. I remember interviewing at some stuffy Ivy League Name for grad school and haaaaaaaated it. So, you never know. You're gonna be fine. We all are. We're gonna get through this! 🙂

ceng it could've been very well that I went on a Saturday. I remember they used to do that once a month? My memory is old.

You'll be OK. My goal was 34 as well. I came up just short, but it's doable. If it helps, my GPA is below everyone's average 😉. GL!:luck:
 
Samesies. And I didn't know what SDN was until the end of my sophomore year in college. That's as anti-gunner as you can get.

Same score here... and my goal was a 34 as well.. I was so disappointed..

i agree; without a good mcat score, there is no med school. no use concentrating on primaries now.


My interview yesterday was nervewracking. Due to nerves, I said I used to volunteer "mildly" in high school. Couldn't remember sporadically :smack:
A friend with an interview too said the guy called him stellar and said he should apply to EDP :wtf:

Gah, back to aamc 10.

yeah, one of my co workers at the hospital I used to work at told me about it, said it was a great and positive website for all aspiring doctors...🙄

I am so opposite of gunner it isn't funny. I very supportive of my fellow classmates, but I don't mind friendly competition to keep up the motivation to study and do well. I think you can gain more ground by working together than working alone.

Don't worry! You underestimate the power of going to a top ranked undergrad school. I've seen people with similar stats get interviews at Columbia, etc. Now don't quote me on that, but you still have a good shot 🙂At least your MCAT score wasn't 6 points below your average! (I'm still angry, can you tell?)

Are you applying DO as well?
 
Is anyone else having trouble getting AMCAS your transcripts? I sent mine in 10 days ago and they are still not listed as uploaded... And the website gives the date checking as 3 days after mine arriving. Should I send another? 😳

Did you send the identification form with them? Just curious.

They got mine a while ago, so maybe you might want to send another set for peace of mind? Or wait a few more days...

I would just wait it out. I sent mine on 5/5 and I didn't get a confirmation email until 5/16 even though they received it on 5/13.

I had this same problem, but it turned out that my undergrad was just bogged down with thousands of transcript requests...I held the request for Spring 2011 grades (along with everyone else...).
I thought it was AMCAS at first, but I called my undergrad's registrar office and my request (turned in 2 weeks ago) was in the middle of a huge stack they were working on. Thankfully, they kindly moved mine to the top and sent them off today!

If you think this could be the issue, you may want to check with your school!

Eh, it helps, but not much. I can tell :laugh:. I might be applying DO, but I think I'll run out of money before I get the chance :laugh:. My list is huge.
 
I don't know how I'm going to afford applying to more than the 14 schools I get from FAP. Barely making enough to get by as it is. Does anyone know if DO system also does a FAP program?

Where in Nicaragua? I went there last year for a week long service trip, and I loved it! We stayed at this amazing backpackers hostel around an hour from Chinendega and almost 3 from Managua, but no more than 50 ft from the ocean/beach. It was so relaxing waking up every morning to the sound of the ocean, and spending 5+ hours at the beach every day in between volunteering. Needless to say I got really tan, which is quite an accomplishment for me haha.
 
why does AMCAS insist using the ****tiest browsers? I'm having a devil of a time finding a good browser (mac user here)
 
IDK! everything is failing on me firefox kept giving me the damn pinwheel so I tried downloading internet 5.1 that kept giving me an error message and now netscape 7 won't even open....someone helpppppppppp
 
If you use IE you have to have version 8. - nvmd you are mac user. Sorry missed that part!
 
What's up guys. Sadly I did not know of this thread until today (I spent all of my time over in the MCAT forum).

Now that the MCAT is over with, I think I'll move over here. MCAT went alright: my goal was a 32, got a 31 that was very balanced. I'll take it.

Starting to stress about maximizing my chances of getting in though!

Finally got a readable PS done! Took about a week to get it into the format that I wanted. On to the the optional essays!

To do: Optional essays, press submit 😱 , get my transcripts/MCAT/LOR's sent out, secondaries.

Who else here is applying TMDSAS? :biglove:

Are you using the most recent version of Firefox? I'm a mac too and I had to go Safari --> Firefox for AMCAS and TMDSAS...
